Caine had no other choice. Tan went after him for the pettiest of reasons and met his own end by his own weapons. It's a shame that Tan did not teach his daughter any better. She had the same attitude, the same craving for combat. And it's funny we never saw her again after this episode.
A couple of things were never explained regarding Tan. First, why was he called Tan, but back at the temple called (Master) Dow? Also, when his character was first introduced and he was talking with his underlings, I remember him saying "It''s good to be back". Back from where? Was he in jail or something?

She sounds like Nirti from stargate
I thought the same thing! And speaking of Stargate, that's Rodney in the white coat.
Woa, that doctor (or whoever is at the beginning), is that the same actor who plays Rodney Mckay in Stargate Atlantis?
Yes
Would be nice if you could actually hear what they say
I really wish Carradine would have left Caine at the very end of the original series! Nothing to enjoy here.
