Wisdom from Muhammad Ali in 1980 during his training camp for his upcoming fight with long-time sparring partner, the prime Larry Holmes who went on to become the 4th longest reigning Heavyweight world champion in Boxing history. As anybody with a pair of eyes (or ears) can observe, Ali clearly had Parkinson’s prior this bout and little do most know, Ali also had under active-thyroid glan to further complicate matters of the then unknown and undiscovered illnesses. The day of the fight Ali was actually taking under-active thyroid tablets given to him by a doctor to give give him energy (under-active thyroid makes a person less energetic and extremely tired) but those tablets actually worked in reverse for Ali because they subsided with the virtually unknown Parkinson’s Syndrome at the same time, mix all those ingredients in under bright-lights, a scheduled 15 rounds against a PRIME Larry Holmes, who also happened to be Ali’s lead sparring partner throughout the second half of his career (as professional boxers know, the lead-sparring partners know you better than anybody) it’s the same reason why very few boxers rematch the same fighter more than once, let alone twice - for that very same very reason - because they know you and your tricks better than anybody else. Everybody with a pair of eyes can clearly see the fight between Ali vs Holmes should never have taken place and at the very least; should have been postponed. But Ali knew how much he meant to so many millions around the world and didn’t want to let them down. However that also worked against Ali because little did he realise the effects of the medication and internal troubles, let alone a prime Holmes trying to take off his head.. his fans would become heartbroken to witness a shadow of the man they once recognised as the greatest fighter they have ever witnessed, clearly unable to engage in combat and unwell. Ali’s ring doctor said shortly after discovering that Ali had Parkinson’s syndrome/under active at its all time high during his career, that it’s a miracle Ali didn’t die in that ring because Ali was unable to sweat! #GOAT
