I think the scariest part is that Reiner didn't seem to be aware that he was switching back and forth between personalities

The lesso of attack on titan is there no bad guys in war i mean il give you an example jf you read the manga the eldian race rulled over the world for 1000 years with tyrany hovever marley also dumped eldians and made them titans thus making this hell there no bad guys or good guys in war just victim on on both sides they both see the other as the enemy
He never really seemed crazy or evil, it was always him following orders. Just we didn't understand the magnitude of what was happening at this point. They both just looked like some separate clan, thribe, some sort of terrorists and they were in fact terrorists in a sense. Just seemed like they were coming from some separate part of the island, that there were a whole lot more titan shifters. While in fact they are just 9 and there can never be more than 9 and that power was in fact, just straight up military power, nothing more.

they're supposed to be sequoiadendron giganteum, the largest trees on earth. the area they're in at this point is implied to be a nature preserve, iirc, so it's possible it's a similar setup like sequoia national park.
