  • Singapore authorities said the bulk of an oil spill has been removed from the sea and beaches, 10 days after it took place. The next stage of cleaning could take up to three months, with sea activities only resuming after the water has been repeatedly tested. Three ministers addressed a press conference today. Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu said air quality remains safe and Singapore's drinking water supply from the sea remains unaffected. National Development Minister Desmond Lee said it will take time for the full impact to be felt on Singapore's biodiversity. Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat said working closely with industry partners had helped agencies respond quickly and minimise any further damage. Nasyrah Rohim, Nicolas Ng and Aslam Shah report.

Why was the dredger being removed from the accident site? It would've been more helpful in preventing or at least keeping the oil spill minimal if the bow was plugged into the hole of the damaged ship's side.

Contrary to claims of an adequate response by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore to the 14 June oil spill, escalating containment measures by Singapore authorities reveal a different story.

Additionally, Berita Harian reported that fishermen in Pengerang have been forced to bear losses as they have been unable to go to sea for the past five days due to the impact of the oil spill.

Malaysia reported oil pollution along a kilometre of Pengerang’s coastline after a vessel collision incident at Singapore’s Pasir Panjang Terminal on 14 June. Local authorities have activated a coastal cleanup plan and are monitoring the environmental impact closely.

The question du jour is whether the beach waters 🌊 off the East Coast Park, Changi, Sentosa, Keppel Bay and Labrador Nature reserve are safe for leisure swimming, snorkeling, diving and other water-based activities such as kayaking, yachting, surfing, water-skiing, etc without hinder of thought by members of the public that there are toxic chemicals and agents formed as a filthy mixture with the sea waters, resulting in skin allergies or even worse, cancer-causing elements. Therefore, I will strongly recommend a lull period of at least 6 months or more, pumping out affected seawater for careful filtration at PUB decontamination plants before pumping them back into the affected coastal areas. Very costly for the government, but it's for our assurance. Sigh...

why ministers do press conference on such a technical matter? Grace Fu was only reading from her ipad and has no idea what she is on about. Why can't we get true experts on the panel to give this press conference?

She is doing sales so iPad is necessary, even if nobody is satisfied or convinced.

So, considering these points, Singapore politicians, especially ministers, have little standing to ask Singaporeans to lower their expectations of material aspiration when they are already living the high life.

Singapore ministers, being the highest-paid in the world, have little standing to ask citizens to lower their material aspirations while they live the high life.
