The spiritual reasons for fasting is very well explained. Thanks for this informative lecture. Though fasting for us from the oriental orthodox churches is a bit more straight forward as we don't have this fish wine and oil days. It is simply a strictly vegetarian diet throughout great lent and then fish allowed on St. Mary nativity and the apostles fasts.
Vegan on all days with the addition of fish during the nativity, apostles and St Mary's fast. Abstinence from food and water is encouraged in all fasts, but especially during lent, for as long as a person is able and in discussion with their spiritual father :)
Hello Father Paul. I'm new to Orthodox, and I've recently been researching about the Gospel of Thomas. My enquiry is that some of the teachings resemble the actual teachings of Yehoshua hamashiach. Could you shed some light on this, and maybe if the other gnostics texts can be trusted?
Gnostic text aren’t supposed to be trusted that’s why there called gnostic texts they might be nice to read from a historical standpoint but don’t apply anything from them as fact and especially don’t apply the teachings to your spiritual life
I hear you But what happens if you are very logical, and you start to question the mysteries of the church? It's hard for me to just stand in awe of something I don't understand. I started to doubt the Holy Trinity because I didn't see proof that we logically necessitate the Trinity or proof that the Trinity even exists.

In Romania we fast in the same way as in the oriental orthodox churches.

I dont think you can trust anything gnostic. Id suggest the Orthodox Study Bible. It has the cannonical books
