Thaanks for making this vieo. I am a Cold War Kid: to me the USSR is unknown & mysterious. The music recalls the unerving 80's vibe of Soviet arms, technology and the madness of Gulags... Yet visually here Soviet men are (bravely) flying military planes like Sam Sheppard in Right Stuff. That visual theme makes me think of Sting's "Do the Russians Love their Children too" lyric.
in the early 2000s I was dreaming of driving a Toyota Celica or an Audi TT one day and blast this amazing song. 2022 and it will be a Toyota alright but a different model. don't give up your dreams lol
Military aircraft and Boards of Canada... Makes me feel that I wasn't alone thinking that both would fit perfectly. This mixture makes me feel comprehended.
One of the reasons I think people relate this track with aircraft is the "jet plane" flanger used pretty often on the percussive sounds. Sounds like propellers and gunfire.
The vocal samples are actually just them messing around with the album "Spirit" by Earth, Wind, and Fire. You can clearly hear a more obvious part of the song "Getaway" at around 2:18, where they're saying "I know we can."
You can also hear the words "Keep a smilin'--" at the 2:27 mark and at various other points. That's from the track "On Your Face" from the same Earth, Wind, and Fire album. The full line is "Keep a smilin' face."
Feels like a bad reveal. Like the good guy you've been rooting for the whole time actually turns out to be an insider for the bad guys. The truth is revealed lol
The whole song is nightmarish and anyone who disagrees is dumb it’s not normal music it’s good but it’s definitely like some inside twisted shit. “GET OFF OF ME” They have a whole dedicated to the devil even if its a joke. I don’t believe in the devil but they mount
I love BoC, for years now, the overall vibe, synths and so on. Recently I got a new pair of speakers for my old turntable, and when I flip to side B on vinyl and this started, oh boi... Now I love them also for their bass.
I remember playing this at a party and all these dudes start freestyling to it and it was great because they just thought it was hip hop. Not even close lol.
Now try to play Happy Cycling, or An Eagle in Your Mind, that kind of pieces, in parties aha But yea some easy listening boc songs can be considered near hip hop by people who dont know them
This song makes me imagine a grafitti-style cartoon set late one gloomy night in the industrial zone of town, where a character is up to some illegal business. A cop car driving by spots him and a police chase through streets and alleyways begins, eventually ending up in a warehouse where the character shoots and kills the police chasing him (the bit at 2:52 being the gunshots). Eventually after thinking he has escaped having made it to a nearby neighbourhood, he hears a police helicopter looming overhead and the song ends with squad cars rolling up and arresting him
Any Canadians here? Look at how close the Su 24 looks to certain aspects to the AVRO Arrow. Look up the MiG 25 as well. This might shine a bit more light on why the US had the Arrow program shut down.
@@MrSuperkaji : That wasn't a major concern back in 1959. It wasn't until later that ICBMs had accurate targeting solutions, and even today a tactical nuclear strike by say a B2 Spirit or a ship/submarine, is still a plausible attack.
I get a modern, metallic belly dancer vibe. Like something out of Firefly when Mal, Zoe, and Jayne visit a cantina awaiting a fellow smuggler. The dancer is also a spy, and she passes a note to Captain Mal warning him of the dangers ahead. Her headdress is made of titanium. The smoky air has a deep blue-green color, backlit by the LED neon. The floor is littered with wads of wet hashish offal. Space ships can be heard taking off in the distance.

Some of these sounds are so amazing, like that opening weird thing that pans around, sounds so good in the car.
In home theater too
The tune starting at 5:21 is the song "Blueberry" (AKA Audiotrack 11) from their unreleased and very old Random 35 Tracks Tape
Also appears on the title track from Twoism.
Probably one of the best IDM albums in the world
Sounds like the twoism outro/ending?

I used to play boards of canada all the time when I played War Thunder. Goes amazing with flying an F-80A at high alt.
One of the rare songs by BOC that can be qualified as a "banger" .
BOOM BOOM TVKCKVKCKCK
Every song they have is a banger
Peacock tail, 1969, Pete standing alone, music is math, slow this bird down (to some degree).....
@@josshibu4155 Peacock tail is not really a banger...seems meditative to me
@@josshibu4155 Slow this bird down. YES.
I discovered these wonderfully talented bunch when I was learning sound engineering...back in 1999! XXX

such an anxious sounding tune, the climax especially

Lmao nice catch. Where did the “get off of me!” at 2:00 come from? Always thought that shit was hilarious and wondered where it came from
E Gleaton “keep on smiling” reversed
What about at 2:54? It always sounded like "drown me" to me.
this is such an ominous song, feels like someone's watching you or something, mad spooky
Feels like a bad reveal. Like the good guy you've been rooting for the whole time actually turns out to be an insider for the bad guys. The truth is revealed lol
The little ending part is super creepy to me. I actually skip it whenever I listen to this song, or Twoism. Gives me a bad feeling for some reason.
@@chrlsstotz8679 I love it!!!! It's the saddest little synth ever, like he's a little baby synth and his Mammy synth has abandoned him!
God I love BOC

Criminally low number of views for this track on RUclips. One of their best.
This would be one of my favorite BoC tracks
It's the drum beat that makes it.
2:00 "Get off of me"

Marty there’s also the fact that the advent of ICBMs meant that supersonic interceptor aircraft were no longer prioritized in defence spending

Mig-21 or late 0:31

Why does this track sound like it sampled one of those 80's pop songs?
It actually sampled Earth wind and fire. They use early 70's to early 80's synths as well
