    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Billy (Eddie Murphy) discovers the true nature of Mortimer (Don Ameche) and Randolph Duke (Ralph Bellamy).
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
The "nature-nurture" theory that motivated so many Three Stooges comedies is the basis of John Landis's hit comedy. The fabulously wealthy but morally bankrupt Duke brothers (Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche) make a one-dollar bet over heredity vs. environment. Curious as to what might happen if different lifestyles were reversed, they arrange for impoverished street hustler Billy Ray Valentine (Eddie Murphy) to be placed in the lap of luxury and trained for a cushy career in commodities brokerage. Simultaneously, they set about to reduce aristocratic yuppie Louis Winthorpe III (Dan Aykroyd to poverty and disgrace, hiring a prostitute (Jamie Lee Curtis) to hasten his downfall. When Billy Ray figures out that the brothers intend to dump him back on the streets once their experiment is complete, he seeks out Winthorpe, and together the pauper-turned-prince and prince-turned-pauper plot an uproarious revenge. With the good-hearted prostitute and Winthorpe's faithful butler (Denholm Elliott) as their accomplices, they set about to hit the brothers where it really hurts: in the pocketbook.

In my personal opinion, if the Dukes had simply mentioned the bet, Valentine would have let bygones be bygones and let them off while helping Winthorpe get his fortune back.
He probably would have been like, “Let’s leave them be, they’re old men, and, while you didn’t like what happened to you, you got to see what went on in my life and you can appreciate what you had more genuinely.” Or something along those lines. This likely would have calmed Winthorpe enough to recognize that he was right.
But the moment that they used that racial slur, all bets were off and he decided to help take them down

Back in the 80's but I think even in nowadays reality their characters and movies speak to us.
Many problems of neoliberalism economy (for example deregulated finance, greed and lack of rules) have their roots in the 80's.

John Landis a genius and the cast was really awesome.
Eddie Murphy amazing, so funny! And that role was perfectly fit for him.
No one could dl it better.
P.S. Fun fact: In Italy, this movie has been aired since 1996,the day before Christmas.
      And I never missed it.
And you know what. 3 millions of people always watch it, basing on Italian official statistics.
      Instant classic!

Love the fact that john Landis cast these actor veterans the Duke brothers. Don Ameche hadn't made a film in 13 years ("Nobody asked me," he explained to Landis) and Bellamy, though always busy, hadn't made anything of much quality. Because of 'Trading Places' both kept working steadily until they died and both worked with Landis again--Ameche in 'Oscar' and Bellamy in 'Amazon Women on the Moon' (as the grandfatherly pharmacist who sells condoms to a teenager.)
