This totally a great point. I know I can stand to lose 50 pounds myself which a 50 pound weight reduction in my Shelby would be awesome. Great topic of discussion Alex. Thank you for always putting out excellent honest content.

I'm 6'1" and I always had a lean/ muscular build in HS. I was probably 180lbs when I was 14 and by the time I was a seniorat 18yo I was hitting 215ish to about 225ish. After high school I started working in a warehouse driving a forklift. I was sitting all day eating whatever I wanted. I'm not joking when I say this: one day I ate 1 medium brownie batter shake, 3 fry burgers, large curly fry, a large dr. Pepper, and 2 Apple turn overs. I quickly hit 275. Hit the gym with calisthenics, crazy cardio, and high rep-low weight workouts and I dropped to 240. Hovering at 237 but my waist keeps going down and my muscles are showing through again. Great short video that gives good valuable information. Love it, hermano. Keep it up!

Thanks man I appreciate the kind words. I see a lot of fitness advice on RUclips, a lot of it seems to be over the top advice about powerlifting protein powders excetera. I think there's a huge void of advice for just regular guys trying to cut a little bit of weight not necessarily trying to win the Mr Olympia

Totally agree. I lost 20kg of fat a few months ago!
It worth it not only for the weight reduction when you're in your car bur also for health in general.
Another simple way to reduce the weight of your car is to never have your fuel tank completely full.

Great video. I have seen a lot of big dudes that race in my time. I'm 5'9", 185-190 and I used to eat bad....really bad. Cutting out fast food entirely is already making a difference on my psyche and well being.
I like to cook a lot so I'll make a batch of beans and rice and eat it throughout the week with pan roasted chicken, steak or whatever I can think up that isn't horrible.*

Yes...it blew me away that the diet seems to be the absolute most important thing when it comes to weight reduction along with a good old fashioned gym routine or exercise program. It really is that simple eat right exercise regularly things will be fine

Great Video Alejandro, I too went through the same process except in reverse. I was around 135# 5ft 11'' and needed to gain weight badly. I went on a strict Diet and hit those Compound lifts hard, 3 years later Im now 180# 8% Body Fat and feel incredible. Good things come to those that work hard for them.

Holy shit Alex! That was ME!! :/ I grew up in. NY, and I'm a dago... My Diet" consisted of pizza, pasta, bread, beer, and a steak every so often. I was 17-18 years old and about 6'0", and 185, no matter WHAT I ate!!
Went into the Service in 1987. they kept me lean & mean....
    Then I got out.
The DENIAL was strong! My 1/4mi times started slowly dropping, especially my 60ft times.
(and this was the mid '90s, "fast" was a LOT slower than it is today!)
When I got to the 14.90 range, I started panicking!! Took apart the whole car, balanced and blueprinted the motor, and looked into weight reduction.
At one point, my then gf told me to get on a scale. She said I was looking a little "chunky".....
    I was 305!!!! :O
    Didn't even see it coming!
Did what you did. My car was lean & tight, time to get ME that way too! That Fall and Winter, and part of Spring, I got down to 245.... Still a fatass, but less of one! Wouldn't you know it, I was BACK in the 13s next season!! I eventually made it down to 215, and that seemed comfortable, because I was in my 30's by then.
Sorry for writing a book! You made a GREAT point! We eat CRAP, and the older you get, the harder it is, to lose weight.
I KNOW I'm not the only one... A few tips in the middle of your hilarious videos, can help others - even when they're not letting you know!
Hey! We were ALL 20, 10 feet tall and bulletproof once!
Dudes, as a whole, don't like to hear that THEY are the problem, but we do listen, don't we?

I'm 5-10 right around 190 lbs, retired Marine. Fitness and diet go hand in hand, can't have one without the other IMO. A lil' cardio, strength training and a proper diet goes a long way in maintains weight/physique. This vid reminds me of what Billy Glidden use to say about weight reduction - start with the driver 1st!

You and me are pretty similar body types i think, I was 185-190 all through highschool and college, and then After being married and divorced and depressed and older of course I was 255. I went on nutrisystem (it was easy for me as a super busy dude with looong hours) and lost 10 lbs my first week, and lost a total of 40lbs down to 215. I kinda hover at 215-220 right now and need to get it down to atleast 200 but I would love to hit 190 again. Im off the nutrisystem as I found I hit that plateau and if I was going to keep eating their food and go to the gym I had to supplement some meals or else I would always feel weak and tired and about to pass out at the gym. So I stopped that system and need to find a new gym but have been mountain biking in the meantime and what a great exercise. Anyways I just wanted to say great message, I say same things to guys who are like me and ride the Honda GROM, 125cc motorcycles, they dump 2-3k in performance parts into these things to make 18hp vs the stock 8 and then some 160lb kid keeps up with them on a stock bike lol

What about for us guys that are thin as a rail? Could you 3rd party me some prices on CF hood, fenders, doors and deck lid for my mustang.....lol
Kidding aside...this is great advice if not just for the health benefit! all I have to do is look at food and I have to loosen the belt a notch....takes discipline and determination. Again, awesome advice!

What if instead of eating fatty fast food, I eat my cars heavy parts and I shit carbonfiber? Then I can use that to make lighter body parts for myself and my car, thus raising the whp/lb ratio.

Alex is my favorite car guy but his expert knowledge of tuning and forced induction doesn't translate 100% to personal weight reduction. It's good, can't go wrong with most of it but I'd argue with some of it. Such as the treadmill advice. Data shows that you will fucking starve if you get on that thing! I'd say the first thing to do is focus on diet. Get control of consumption, then try cardio. Watch what it does to your ability to control consumption. If you can handle it, run your ass off. More than likely you won't though. If you can't take the hunger, jump over to lifting. You're still going to lose weight but instead of cannibalizing your muscle with the caloric deficit you'll lose more of that percentage weight in fat. Main point though is controlling diet. If you can't control your consumption forget about losing weight through exercise. Both are hard and no amount of exercise can make up for the calories you can consume during one meal.

    • @YDBT4LIFE
      @YDBT4LIFE  9 лет назад +3

I can tell you what i do
Morning--2 eggs, 1 piece of toast with peanut butter, Coffee, black (about 18-22 g of carbs)
Mid day snack--...a nutri grain (18-24g of carbs) bar or i cook up allot of chicken breast the previous day and have a cpl of oz of that so keep carbs low, I know it sucks, but it's something i have to do to keep carbs low.
Lunch--Chicken, chicken Chicken. I have a salad (chicken Cesar, or cooked chicken breast, broccoli and some kind of easily digestible carb, i.e. sweet potatoes etc, cheese, And if i have to have a drink, i'll get that squirt stuff like from Dasani..a water enhancer.
Dinner--Steak, or Steak tips, Heavy on the greens, (Spinach is an excellent nutritional low carb deal) maybe corn and if i have to have rice i'll have small amount of Cooked rice. Rice is HEAVY HEAVY on carbs, pasta (whole grain) is the lowest carb pasta i saw, but it tastes like ass. So if you have to have pasta have the regular stuff just portion control You should be no higher than 30g of carbs for dinner. And Finally if you need a snack anytime after that or during the day GREEK YOGURT learn to love that shit.
Remember, this will be tough, i try to be under 100 grams of carbs a day, but i am also building muscle so i am Heavy on the protein, chicken, steak, etc.

in road bicycle racing lots of the guys look anorexic, and if they take too many steroids muscles that dont help you pedal increase your weight and wind resistance, and then they run as many carbon parts as they can, including carbon steer tubes that can crack where the stem clamps on, and carbon rims, there are lots of catostrophic failures, then tere were the guys in acura integras in the 90s that bought pteradactyl wings that made so much drag they were slower than stock, and billet parts that weighed more than the stock ones and did nothing to help the car, and im not even going to get into the fart cannons and shabby lowering jobs with dummy tires on the front
