@TweetFPV - I bought the earlier version 3GOA welder (no screen just LEDs) hoping to repair a battery pack a while back and encountered the same issue with it as you. It could weld fresh .1mm strips onto new clean batteries if fully charged, but not weld the existing .2mm strips enough to consider it repaired. However being a pre-owned unit, I decided to butcher it and attach a bigger capacity battery instead from a car booster starter pack and since, it's been more than capable of spot welding .2mm nickel strips together onto used 18650's for hours on end. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I honestly like you wouldn't recommend the 3GOA welder not even for the occasional DIY repairs. I found most pre-assembled factory made packs have .2mm strips or thicker. 👍
Way to be resourceful and make this spot welder work for your application! A+
@@TweetFPV What's the point of learning how to fix stuff, if you're not resourceful enough to make a specific tool for a specific job? 😉👍
Very good point! 😂
@@TweetFPV Personifying that classic old "Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day" saying. 🤔😉
good review, thanks for saving me some money
after watching the video I grabbed a soldering iron and I solder another two new 21700 3S packs and one 4S2P 18650
Thanks for the headsup!
Thanks for watching.
Excellent and honest review, Dan! Thanks! 😃
I've been thinking about getting the one from Sequre... But after this I guess I'm going to search for more reviews. 😬
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Beware of reviews from people that don't actually know what a good spot weld should look like. It might stick but that's not enough.
@@TweetFPV Exactly!
I got the same one and it did work good for me. Do need to test and dial in your gear settings.
On .2mm?
@@TweetFPV No, the 1.2mm and I doubled up on them. Certainly not enough juice for the 2mm.
Ok yea. .2mm is what I am usually working with.
Made tens on lion packs with soldering and had literally zero issues with it.
Also would like to add that with spot welding you can destroy the cells pretty easily if you pump too much current
Yea it can certainly be done if you have the right skills.
too funny. I watched that 18650 build video again last week to see what spot welder you used. a bit out of my price range. I have several cheepo units in my list. I think I will pass on this one.
Yea I wasn't expecting high welding rates but I was hoping for at least acceptable levels of penetration and perhaps having to go slow. Unfortunately that's just not the case with this device. 😔
The file is to sharpen the welding tips
Ah.. Thanks!
It is inexpensive what about better mating surfaces? You know maybe use that file and get a good clean flat surface and hit it two times and different spots. What do you think about that?
For .1mm it would be fine but there's no world where this will make a quality weld on .2mm. I asked the mfg for clarification and it was some marketing wank where it will no do .2mm so basically anything under .2mm (.15 or .1mm)
@@TweetFPV ok I get it you get what you pay for, you know
Yea. I need to make a video comparing this to the kweld
You're pressing too hard and not enough angle. The points of contact need to be as small possible to focus the current/heat. These devices work realy well if you do it properly.
I think this one was defective. It survived this video and it doesn't work anymore. But it absolutely did work just not on anything thicker than .1mm and the manufacturer confirmed this as well via email that I can not do .2mm
could be worst you could have paid for it with your own money
I would send it back then.
