Based on my own personal experience. I have used Mobil 1 and Pennzoil ultra platinum for years, I gave Amsoil a try in my Hemi Challenger to help with the cold start lifter tick and will never go back. I am sold on Amsoil, it literally feels like a new engine.

I watched this whole video just to find out, that I am using the right oil (Penzoil Platinum)
    You're Good.
But, I am going to try Amsoil on this change.
My '98 Firebird is going to have an engine flush via Amsoil, and I may as well continue with the full change.
Thanks for all of Your hard work.

I'm running Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in my 2018 Escape Titanium ecoboost for 40k miles and very satisfied. Switching from Mobil 1 and Quaker State. As you said the engine around 3500 miles started to get noisy. Tried QS and very impressed by a quieter engine right away. Finally to PUP and kept since. An excellent overview and analysis of oil characteristics after 3K. You suggested the Penz ultra platinum several months ago; and my results were identical to your observations. From the moment the 2105 Tacoma, 2.7 liter was started, the engine sounded noticeably quieter with the P U P. Shortly thereafter I began to use premium gasoline only. The truck increased its gas mileage from 21.3 to 26.1 mpg with 144K on the clock, an amazing 18.4 % increase in fuel economy. Thank you so much for sharing these important parameters with us. In order to get a better picture is to do 2 oil changes before changing brands. The reason I say that is because a good quality oil will actually clean up the engine and start getting better improvements over time. Those viscosity numbers show if the oil deflects and prevents sludge. Amsoil is very good at keeping the same viscosity pretty much the same throughout its time in engine.

    • @FordBossMe

    • @dbarr8261

@FordBossMe Yes and the detergent package that Amsoil uses is designed to trap the dirty particle and suspend them to be captured by the filter. The main reason I use Amsoil is because of the way they test and design their oils. Their chemist use the best of what is available and they test over and over to find out the best amounts of the additive package. I am impressed with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. I just recently started seeing more on Valvoline. I am not a fan of Mobile1 at all.

I've heard red line was a really good oil I haven't tried it but I think I should after seeing your analysis. For the past 2 years my personal favorite oil I've been using has been royal purple high performance Street or HPS for short. It's supposed to be comparable to Red Line as far as the type of additives they use. I believe when I looked at the oil analysis a while back on the Royal Purple HPS had like 1,200 ppm phosphorus and I believe around 1,150 ppm zinc. It also had quite a bit of Molly and I believe the calcium was around 1,100 ppm. I've noticed more performance oriented motor oils that are not licensed and regulated by the API typically have a much stronger and better additive package. If you notice pretty much all the oils you have listed except red line the zinc and phosphorus was around 6 to 700 parts per million that's because oils that are licensed under the API are strictly regulated on what type of additives and how much they can put in the oil because the EPA claims if your engine Burns oil the zinc and phosphorus will turn to Ash and clog your catalytic converters but personally I have never seen proof this is just what they claim. Ideally if you want the best out of a good motor oil you want to look for the more high performance oriented oils that are not regulated by the API just make sure it's under a reputable brand. And if your vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty you might want to go ahead and stick with oils that are licensed under the API just so you don't void your warranty.

I would love to hear your professional Opinion on the difference between Pennzoil Platinum and pennzoil ultra Platinum. When I try to compare them my amature self, it looks like Ultra is more for performance vehichles/ V8 Engines. But when I bring that up, people tend to disagree with me.

    • @FordBossMe

I don't really like Pennzoil Platinum regular because it doesn't seem to be as good as Pennzoil full synthetic and that was a couple other RUclipsrs came to that conclusion as well as people individually said they got better results with the regular full synthetic Pennzoil and then the next one up the top dog would be the ultra was really really good but the Platinum wasn't really that great

Depends on Platinum line specifically the ultra and the Valvoline extended protection high mileage Ultra and the Valvoline extended protection and the Valvoline advanced are the best oils I've seen so far that are found at Napa or Walmart or on Amazon

I like the Zinc and the Boron. Seems to be the best combo for the TC. Something about the zinc in panthers.
Moly is good, but I guess if you focus on others and just somehow make a really good combo of addictives for the oil, it works out.
I have found Royal Purple to be the best I’ve tried because of you.
I personally didn’t like the noise level of the Rotella. But I got the oil for $15 for 6 quarts. I must have found a cheat code at the auto zone.

Amsoil announced that their XL oil has been reformulated to make it stronger for longer. It would be interesting to test it to see how it compares to the old XL formula and the signature series, supposedly their top of the line oil. Rich, I would be willing to send you the new XL formula if you are interested in testing it. Thanks for all the comprehensive oil videos! Oil is still cheap and engines are expensive! Hey Rich! I hope all is well. Question about some of the results. If I remember correctly in the video that you used Ams Signature series you were using 5w-20 or 10w-30 given those were the bottles you presented. I didn't think that Ams XL would beat Ams SS at the same viscosity. Also during the royal purple run you had run a flush before throwing Royal Purple in. Yes Royal Purple is pretty good but I suspect that the longer smoothness may have been due to the flush. I wouldn't mind if the flush was fine before each oil change just wanted to state my concerns.

I typically use Pennzoil Platinum, but recently I had 6 Quarts leftover of Amsoil OE that I had purchased for my EX Girlfriend. So I figured I would just give it a shot since I had, and it made my Engine so loud it was cringe worthy. And you know how a car sounds when you turn the key while a Engine is already on, that's how all of my dry starts were sounding now. So within a few hundred miles I took that stuff out and put the Penn Platinum back in. Even for about a week after putting the pennzoil back in, I was getting those cringe worthy dry starts, but just every now and then,, and now it's been months since that has happened.
