Just installed my 16A/32A wallpod at work to run brand new Nissan eNV200.... watched this video afterwards(typical) but in fact you've reassured me I've made all the right choices.... London to Oxford twice weekly and on the charger overnight, sweet. You're right about getting kids to school, my younger one has finished school now....I can relax. Thanks for the video
Top vid, thanks for all the info!. It would be great if you could do an updated one at this point with regards to cost now and general updates on how the leaf is coming along
I charge with the grannycharger at home and bought an used extra right away. Always having it in the car. I got the type 1-2 cable with the car when i bought it. Probably use both of them every single week. And thats why it’s so great having two! Not have to worry about taking the cable with you every morning
Totally agree with your logic. I also paid a little extra for an untethered 7Kw charge point on my house despite only having the 3.3Kw onboard charger. There is a little holster available on Amazon or eBay for about £10 that you can neatly click your J1772 connector into on the wall when not in use instead of just hanging it over the charger. It's similar to how the tethered units work.
I bought my leaf used from Nissan. Unfortunately the car did not come with a granny charger. I have spoken to the dealership and they are trying to source the wall but can't guarantee it. You did really well getting that extra cable bag. 👍
+mark snoopyakabigbird it took a lot of haggling but I'm glad I got one. The granny charger comes as standard with the vehicle when new. It's a shame they are struggling to get you one.
I only stumbled across your channel today via RUclips recommendation. Really enjoying your EV vlogs. I went through a very similar thought process when getting my charger installed via POD Point. Everything was so simple and easy. My wife is currently trying to get her company to install a POD Point charger at her place of work. They have shown an interest which is nice. Fingers crossed she can get them on board. Free EV charging I would never pass up 👍😜
8:24 - I convinced my wife to get a Leaf instead of another Mercedes 350 (which was 11 years old) by telling her that I'd take care of charging (first charge is happening as I write this).
@@josecarranza7555 We love it. It'll be 2 years next month. The Bolt will give you a little more range I think. But I'm retired and she's about 5 miles from her work, so it hasn't been an issue for us.

Thanks for an absolutely informative video. Bought my first EV yesterday, a 2013 leaf tekna model and I'm absolutely loving it. On the other side, I kinda regret not knowing about the difference between 3.3 KW and 6.6 KW. My question to you is: whats the main difference between the two in terms of charging time? And is it that the battery weakens if you charge it with the very fastest alternative? I'm charging it with the 10A superslow 8-10 hours charger, and if I go for a wallbox, how long will it take? I got the 3.3 KW version. Thanks for the uploads, you earned yourself an active subscriber!
Brilliant news and thank you. Roughly speaking a 7kw charger will charge in half the time of a 3kw charger. That said you, like me only have 3.3kw charger in your Leaf so can only charge at that rate (approx 10 hrs from empty to full). I have a 7kw charger installed to future proof myself. As far as looking after the battery don’t worry. Unless you are rapid charging (50kw+) more than once every day your battery will be fine 👍
EV Opinion, thats sad to hear, I thought the time was reduced eveb though you have 3kw version (charging with type to at the mall etc). Thaks flr your response!
Are you guys sure you have the 3kW Leaf? The reason I ask is Nissan told me I have the 3kW Leaf based on there only being one charge time shown on the dash. However, I timed it charging on a 7kW charger and after some calculations I realised the % was increasing at over 8kW!
Love the video content, and will be back for more thanks. I'm not sure what you use to record the video but it is a bit wobbly at times. Not sure why that is? If you have a stabilised option I'd turn it on :-)
+Komatoes thank you for watching. Vlogging is still a bit new to me so using a GoPro at the moment as that is the best camera I have. Hopefully I will improve sound and video in the future. Thank you for letting me know👍
He’s a normal three pin socket not viable for a leaf then? I thought because of the size of the battery it would only take a few hours overnight to charge anyway, even from a normal socket?
Nice video, with useful stuff to consider. Just bought myself a Leaf, my first EV, so I was pondering whether or not to install a home charge point. Probably not going to because, unlike the UK, there's no grant for it here in Japan and it's pretty costly. Also, we have a ¥2000 (about £13) per month program where we get unlimited Chademo charging. Nissan gave us 4 years of that for free with the car 😀 and there are at least five places near my home. So would seem stupid to add to my home electricity bills.
It is convenient to be able to charge at home but it you have free charging and it works for you then it sounds like you have the perfect comprimise! Welcome to the club!
Can you take your leaf through a automatic car wash... I did and the car wouldn't charge at public charging stations . I finally got it to charge at the one near my house... thanks
GReat video. could you post a link to the actual charger you went for? I'm in proces of going Plug-in Hybrid Volvo and working out which charge point to go for.
I've gone with slightly different logic. 7kW charger for my 3.3kW Leaf is a no-brainer, but I found that the cost of a replacement tethered cable for a potential future non-J1772 car is similar to buying an additional T2-T1 cable to live in the wall. So the convenience of the tethered now is worth it for the nause of replacing the cable later. Many ways to skin the cat!
+Matt Thompson That makes sense. I was worried about physically changing a tethered cable. I had to factor in the cost of an electrician which push the cost up.
100% the more people use electric cars the more people will have to pay, also so goes for car tax currently free for electric cars but it wont be for long
The price of electric has to hit something like 30 - 50 p/kWh for it to cost the same as driving an ICE (depending on the fuel efficiency and based on UK fuel prices). Electricity is looking likely to get cheaper in the future as solar and wind farms cost less to build, run and decommission than coal/gas/nuclear. Plus more residences having batteries will reduce the peak demand as well as provide a cheaper way to supply the energy for peak demand. The question is how much are we doing to have to pay for the up keep of the national grid when it's being used less?
Hi, great video. Just wanted to know if there is a security feature? For example can anyone come up to you drive way and charge their EV without you knowing?
Hello, I am considering buying a 2nd hand Leaf, and wondering whether to put a tethered or untethered charger on the wall. I am concerned that someone could just walk off and steal the cable if it is untethered.
I'm thinking of getting an untethered one like you have, but what worries me is if I leave the cable always plugged in - can you lock it in, or not? As if not you've got a £150 cable dangling there waiting to be stolen surely?
Have you had any trouble with having the charger out side? Neighborhood kids unplugging your car, or is there something that would prevent someone from use if your charger while you are away?
love your videos, very interested in your review of the Hyundai. The dealer is within walking distance to me and the car looks great. Could you do me a favour please, park the car next to your Leaf so I can get the idea of its size compared to the Leaf. I am interested if its length is longer then the Leaf or shorter. Thank you.
Hi. Thanks for the question. I would definitely buy the same untethered charger again. I ha e been able to charge all the different EVs I’ve tested at home. I know there are more advanced chargers now that can adapt to increase and slow down the input and some that will use the car’s battery to run the house but for a straightforward car charger you won’t go wrong. Just remember you will need to but the cable in addition to the unit if it doesn’t come with the car 😁👍

EV Opinion I understand. I did not mean anything. Am I right in saying you cannot travel long distance in this car?
Content great...iPhone camera work rubbish...take a 'Leaf' out of James vlog and get a decent cam/stabiliser setup...watching more than a few minutes does my head in!!...i am an old fart though!!...Leaf owner though!!
+Charlie Burton sorry. I know the GoPro I use can be a bit unstable at times. It is my intention to either get a Kama grip or a new camera with stabilisation built in. Just saving a few extra pennies first👍
Do we need to know about this plonkers personal life? The video title should read " My daily life with da Family "
