Alec you have practically restored that bmw. I would love to see the cost of all the parts you have installed & tally up the cost of labor. Alec I am honored to support your channel because I enjoy & look forward to all e46 content. Keep on rocking!
Thank you Johnny! I have a running list of parts and cost, once I get her sold I’ll be making a video going through it all :)
Appreciate ya as always Johnny, have a great weekend ! 👍🏻
@@DayOffDIY also just realized today Sage is growing up on your channel and is beautiful side kick.
she sure is! shes growing up quick! almost 40 pounds!!!!!!
Entertaining as always.
BMW recommends to add grease to the tie rods connection under the boot. Especially when the boot is torn like yours is.
thats a good idea! ill have to do that when i swap tie rods over to the next rack
Love how your getting your name out there, definitely one of my favorite channels
Thanks Rupture! That means a lot !!! Appreciate you always stopping by
@@DayOffDIY hey man I’d love to be a member but I’m not able to see the members table on your home page do you know how I’m able to see it?
@@ruptureviles241 hey rupture! on my home page you should see a memberships tab next to videos, shorts, playlists, community, memberships etc... from there you should be able to find it
@@ruptureviles241 so I did some more digging! I found a Join Button next to the subscribed button on my home page. this was through my desktop screen. I will do some more digging and figure out how to make it more accessible :)

Nice job. You made that easy to digest. Always helpful commentary and tips.
Thanks Bog!!! great to see ya
Most underrated bmw mechanic youtuber. i love all your vids
really appreciate that martin, means a lot!!! :)
You’re Chanel is one of the best out there, you make me want to tackle my 2007 E60 530xi.
Keep up the good work!!
thats a great car! love the E60s. thanks for the support :)
Some additional information, as per request from the video :D BMW recommends to have the steering rack as far in as possible when removing and installing the inner tie rod. This is because the rack cannot be countered and the torsion is absorbed entirely by the pinion assembly. The rack also can be regreased on that occasion, especially if - as in this case - it already has rust on it due to a failed rubber boot. BMW prescribes FB-1 grease for this procedure. Maybe this helps somebody...
Thanks for the info! Awesome tip I will no doubt use that next time I do tie rods :)
You always bring new exciting content everytime, good job
really appreciate that! thanks!
I like your content and appreciate your straight forward approach to things. I have an '06 325i that I recently purchased as a cheap project car. Your content is helpful in my DIY efforts. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Lorenza! I appreciate the feedback! More content to come
You know, anyone would benefit from watching your videos no matter what they work on. Always solid thorough work! Seems like a lot of RUclipsrs are just test driving cars, which is ok, but typically it isn't good DIY content, they drive cars that are usually out of reach for most of us. Your channel is full of practical information, appreciate all of the content!
One of my favorite comments of all time! thanks for the support and kind words friend :)
This video is also good for me and I just fantasize about working on my E46 :), but...too afraid I'll ruin something. Anyhow, this video helps me live vicariously and also if I ever do get the chance to work on my own car :) after buying a lift and tools etc. nice work!
My wheels have tons of side to side play just ordered new oem inner/outer tie rods and oem control arms/bushings
awesome! hopefully that fixes things up for you!
@@DayOffDIY Lol thanks man yeah got it all done than went to go get an alignment as I was leaving the driver side window regulator went out it’s always something with these cars🤣
Recommend inspecting control arm bushing , they’re known to go on these models, great content btw 👍🏽
yeah those rear trailing arms can get blown out thats for sure. luckily these are still solid but ill probly replace them on my manual E46 in the future :) thanks for the support cezar
Another great video. Always love watching you work. When you dropped that goop on your boot, I thought you might take the opportunity to apply conditioner to your boots, as well as the seats. Hey, they're leather, right?
hahah I shouldve rubbed it in! thanks for stopping by Rick!!!
toe will move some with camber when doing an alignment
Correct! They may have gotten it back into spec with just camber adjustments.
Yeah! Once again, great work done! The buyer will have such a nice car :)
Thanks Edgar! Cant sell it without doing everything I can to get this car cherry as possible. Luckily the buyer is very patient and wants me to finish up all the details
Great informative videos. I just got a 2002 330 convertible with only 68k one owner and it was garage. However, after doing the usual maintenance items, was told it has the oil pan gasket leak! so, I'm getting ready to start saving since my mechanical skills are horrendous! Anyways, love your channel. Thanks
Thank you Julio! what a cherry car! rare to find em with such low mileage now a days. as long as its not the X drive the oil pan isnt too bad, but it is a lot of work on your back and you do have to drop the subframe down.
really appreciate the support!
@DayOffDIY it is a LOT of work on your back... or you leave it alone and it is undercarriage rustproofing.
Humble guy, subbed keep it up mate
Thank you richard! Really appreciate it
excellent work as always! that nice 330i is getting younger by the video.
thats the goal! got a buyer lined up and theyll be coming out to get the car after I finish up this rack n pinion replacement
another great vid. I wish I could buy this car.
Thanks Ryan, really appreciate you always checking out my content. Where ya from?
@@DayOffDIY I live in San Diego... moving to Sacramento soon. You provide lots of entertainment with these vids. much appreciated. Keep em comin
@@ryanm.3681 thanks Ryan, i was born and raised in San Clemente! Im a big fan of SD, my brother lives in Oceanside
@@DayOffDIY Nice! I grew up in Anaheim... So turns out Im not moving north just yet.... Ill remain in SD for a few more years.
Alec, I can't remember if you changed the front wheel bearings on this one? I would have probably done that first.
I was thinking the same. If I remember correctly he replaced one of the rear bearings..
Correct! I did one of the rears. The wheel bearings on this one feel great, zero up and down play on the wheel, also haven’t heard or felt any symptoms indicating bearing, it’s only lateral play, feeling very confident on the rack diagnosis, we shall see once I get her swapped!
Waiting for you to work on a e90 with n52
id love to buy one! ive been keeping my eyes out for a good deal. would make a great next project
Good job my man 🎉🎉🎉
thank you! :) good to see you again
Seems like those pads were made for a bigger rotor
Right? They’re supposedly factory replacement but akebono must be off on the dimensions…
I say it's time you get sponsored by FCPEuro and be a part of their DIY team.
Youre right! I emailed em and applied to their program, havent heard back. Ill have to bug them some more and show your comment :)
@DayOffDIY I talk to one of the peoples and the editor
I agree
If replacing as a unit can you just take ball joint out and unscrew at inner nut?
Great video. Ever consider restoring a BMW motorcycle?
Never thought of it but sure would make some fun content! ill keep my eyes out for one in the future
Отличная работа 👍 🎉
Thank you!
Hey everyone
If I move my wheel at 3 and 9 o clock like you did on the driver side and it also moves passenger side tie rod. Is that the steering rack or tie rods?
Is there a tq setting for the inner tie rod nut?
im sure there is but i would be unable to torque it due to the size and use of an adjustable wrench. I just tried to go gudntight :)
@@DayOffDIY I like how you roll!
@@DayOffDIY was wondering the same thing, but hey I guess I'll go the gudntight route too. threadlocker a good idea since I can't torque it properly?
How is there an e46 without a leaking oil pan?
hahaha I got lucky!
Maintenance 🧑🔧
is that an x1 in the background?
Mustve been the X3 ive been working on. F25
@@DayOffDIY ok I see so similar I have an e84 hardly any videos on that thing. Amazing channel my dood keep it up!!
@@allhype_6613 I just posted up a video on a E83! Thanks for the support :)
How much for her?
she sold a few months ago for 6K
@@DayOffDIY awe i miss my 330ci manual... 2001 i cant seem to find them 😭😭😭i miss mine. Im tryna get mine back from the yard and fix it back up. Had a wipe oit in a bad storm and my shit hydro planed all over the road after being side swiped and ended going over the median. Front the front end. Idk what broke but my right wheel was tsisted in and left wheek was straight but didnt move when i turned the wheel. The wheel just kept spinning 💔💔💔. Rear right wheel was cambered. Positive camber like hell 😭😭
damn that thing got smoked! I have a 2002 E46 330i manual if I sell it one day you can make me an offer!
