  • Pixels Dice, available for Kickstarter preorder until April 8, 2021, came shipped to Sam Machkovech at Ars Technica with this pre-loaded light animation template. A quick-and-dirty demonstration video of a non-final product.

    Once these are perfected add VR goggles and BOOM we’re all ready to play tabletop D&D “together” over the internet. VR table we can look across and see co-players (in cosplay if the table rules allow it), VR minis and terrain with fog of war, even a POV toggle where we can switch to battlefield view, all while rolling physical dice we can all “see” while reporting results directly to the DM. I’m ready for the future of socially distant social gaming.

    One of my D&D players bought these. Suddenly he consistently rolls a Nat 20 about every 4 or 5 rolls now, and never rolls a 1, average around 15+.
    Feels weighted. A dice full of electronics CANNOT be anywhere near balanced.

      That's odd. They aren't even being shipped until January 2024. Except for a 'few' Dev Kits. I suppose it is possible your player had a devkit... Or he got one of the knockoffs that were sent out that light up similarly but aren't customizable.
