- HBO's Big Love and TLC's reality-TV offering, Sister Wives, have thrust polygamy into popular culture in the United States. Estimates are that somewhere between 50,000-100,000 families in this country are currently risking criminal prosecution by practicing plural marriage. Adrienne Davis, JD, an expert on gender relations and the William M. Van Cleve Professor of law at Washington University in St. Louis, proposes some default rules that might accommodate polygamy, while ensuring against some of its historic and ongoing abuses. She also comments on "de facto" polygamy and the use of the same sex marriage argument by both detractors and supporters of polygamy.

Same sex marriage has become legal in parts America, where man can marry another man, or two women and that is acceptable, and a man can have sex with as many women he wants without marriage and that is acceptable. Starting with the President and leaders around the world, on down to the average working man. But a man having more than one wife in a agreement with consenting adults is unacceptable?

POLYGAMISTS are happy families where they want large families. This standard in some traditions and cultures is by design to keep the family strong and healthy generationally. Elders are not put in old people's homes because the large families have enough members to care for them until they die.

Who's accepting adultery??. If you do, your standard is just too low, but do not speak for others becoz ours is not! The laws gives advantages to adultery victims, which means it punishes the adultery committer! Go learn some actual facts instead of just speaking from your enpty head!

How is that even remotely the same thing? It’s the number of participants in a marriage that is the main factor of why polygamy is different and legally complicated, not the sex of those involved.

1 man and 2 woman isn't polygamy we say the word and it's automatically associated with patriarchal undertones of 1 man and multiple women and a relationship could look like that but I also see a polygamy as 2 men and 3 women or 3 men and 5 women ir could be 2 men and 2 women it could be a relationship of 4 men or a relationship or 4 women but all im saying is that. If I were going to be in a relationship with that and everyone is in love equally it would look equally as well. Its not equal or fair for 1 man to get emotional and sexual access to multiple women but all these women have to share 1 man thats insane and that doesn't evens make any sense.

There's no such thing as forced monogamy. You can't make a promiscuous person monogamous and you can't get into a monogamous relationship and feel suffocated and Trapped because you can't sleep around in that relationship. If you dont want monogamy then be polygamous or single.

"Family Law" aka Christan Law which violates the Freedom of Religion amendment rights and the right to happiness amendment rights so 😀 yeah there shouldnt be any form of law on who your allowed with as long as its not children or animals also shouldnt pay for a license for a birth given right which also violates common law and constitutional law
Requiring the consent of other spouses overcomplicates things. The solution is simple. Allow someone to add as many as they want to a marriage. If an existing spouse disagrees, they have the option of divorce.

How about we say that women that freely leave the marriage without the husbands consent have to deal with the costs of raising said child instead of the husband? Sounds fair to me.
