The "hair curiosity is racism" thing is so strange to me. I'm black (Jamaican). When I was in high school, a white American girl joined our class. A lot of the girls would touch her hair, play with it, attempt to style it. Why? Because it was different from theirs and they were curious and delighted. I've never had a problem with people of other races being curious about my hair. People make everything into a problem.

@ANANSE I am so glad to hear someone state this. Just yesterday I was speaking to a young lady who happened to be sitting before me. She also happens to Fancy my nephew. I moved closer to her, place my hands on her head and asked my cousin is this young lady who's been asking about my nephew. Now normally I would not even think twice about it. But because of the rhetoric that has been coming up lately about this I hope I didn't offend her by touching the top of her head. I quickly erased that from my mind because I thought how ridiculous this is. I would have done that no matter what shade of brown she is. I say shade of brown because I think more like a makeup counter you never find a foundation that is called Black or White they're all shades of brown from light to dark with some having enhancements mixed in. Please feel free to correct me if you do not agree.
I have long very thick coarse red hair and people always want to touch them! Big fluffy hair are just so awesome to touch honestly! No matter what the race it’s an awesome sensory input

I tried to keep my family away from modern societies filth, but custody courts are rigged, so any man who demands STANDARDS for his family gets booted and robbed....unable to have as much influence on the children... ensures generation after generation of left voters without men in the home...
because sadly yes, women are very susceptable to emotional blackmail... and majority take a long time to grow out of it.

My sister has blonde hair and lived in Beijing for 3 years, all the kids (and some adults) wanted to touch her hair all the time. It's not racism ... it's curiosity and being positively excited of the unknown.

I am white and can even begin to count just how many times I've had random people touch my hair because of its unique texture and style.
Anyone who believes this somehow is an act of aggression let alone racism let alone oppression has never experienced any of those three. What would those who have experienced the aforementioned, say for example the Uighur's in China who are being subjugated to ACTUAL systemic racism under a totalitarian regime including being imprisoned in concentration camps, would give to trade places with an American who has it so good, someone simply touching their hair is their idea of "oppression"??
There's no excuse for a grown person putting their hands in someone else's hair without asking. In all cultures this is common sense.
I am blonde and am often the centre of attention in Asia (and Africa). People look at me like i am amazon. Its very sweet.

All White efforts combined, colossally outweigh any relatively small contribution of labour by a minority of of the US population known as Africans that was furthermore quite limited to certain geographical areas and a fairly small niche of physical services.
Just the Irish alone could be credited with having borne far greater a load as far as getting the real sweat and heavy and dangerous labour done to build America.
Not to disregard, of course, the great labour that WAS done by Africans.
Still, America would have been built all the same with or without the contribution of Africans.
And there would have certainly been far less violent crime and urban insecurity had they been aided in returning to Africa to bring reading, medicine, language, arts, sports and other fine culture to their continent of origin.
Most people intrinsically understand these things to be true even if they wither at the thought of admitting it.

It's because some or most of us grow extremely tired of talking til we're blue in the face to racist illogical blank brick walls. There still is in society individual bias and also _cultural_ racism that exists, but there is _no_ persistent systemic racism in today's America
I'm a black male who also ( after voting most of my life as democratic) has moved towards conservativtism. I went from hating and fearing the police to working with them.
From hating the flag to appreciation of the freedom it represents.
From being ashamed of America to being proud of our country.
And it's still a racist society...but the racism is in both parties and I now believe that America 🇺🇸 is the greatest country in the world IN SPITE of some hard core racist.
I also have seen evidence that...certain elements of the left...are worse, even then racism.

I was the same, when I was 13. I grew out of it and into my own in less than a year. I really think it’s a normal part of being young and entering puberty. I worry for all the kids that would’ve never transitioned in a different era. I worry for their mental health as they get older.

I was a tomboy during my childhood and my teens. I remember arguing about clothing with my mother - I hated wearing dresses and always wanted boys' clothing. But by the time I reached my midteens, I was comfortable being a girl.
Today, I'm still a tomboy! But I'm happy being female.

I was a tomboy as a young girl. I always wanted to be a boy!!! I wore boy clothes and had very short hair. I am so grateful that I was raised back in the 1970's. I grew out of this phase. I am so thankful for my life now. I am married with 4 beautiful children and now 2 grandchildren!!! It is so sad to see what we are doing today to our children.
My daughter was also born in the 70s, but raised in the 80s. She too, was a tomboy. It's something I love about her. It seems that tomboys grow up to be the most well rounded women. Pretty girls only think skin deep. Praise God for tomboys. Just look at you now! God bless you and your family.
I like that it sounds like you were able to figure it out for yourself. Although back then kids could be really cruel to kids who were a bit different.

I was a tomboy, got married 40 years ago, still married to the same man. My daughter was a huge tomboy that competed in HS sports, excelled very well, was recruited to play in college sports, finished earning her college degree and is now happily married to a kind loving man who is an excellent cook I might add ( that is a bonus) and a team player like her because he also participated in sports.
I was never introduced to sports as a child, only dancing but in hindsight I now recognize the true value of playing in team sports and learning to work together with each other as a team to accomplish a goal, whatever it is and building trust and possibly a life time friendships.
I will never forget what the officiating person told us at my daughters wedding. He said that you don’t even have to be in love with each other, although that helps, he said that the main thing in a marriage is that you are BOTH climbing the same mountain and striving for the same goals and results and that you are flexible and not unwilling to lose in an occasional disagreement. You should always remain respectful and thoughtful as much as possible, try to see the other person ls side of your discussion and treat others the way that you want to be treated. 😮🤔
I never heard that message before but it makes sense that you two should have the same goals, otherwise you will probably constantly be bickering, fighting and not getting along very well.
That is basically what my husband and I did. We both acquired a second job each to save for our own house that we both wanted.
We both would be kind to other people and help them occasionally if they needed and occasionally we gave into each other’s wish if we ever disagreed.
That’s why single people should date for awhile first and find out what if anything is attractive about the other person’s personality. You shouldn’t be worried about petty things like your nails, brand name clothes or material things. It’s the heart that is the most important.
I’m very proud of the job that we did raising our kids and feel that we did a great job on raising 3 kind, loving, hardworking, fun, caring, good law abiding citizens.
It’s not impossible but you have to be dedicated to accomplishing your goals together.

They would javeis believe that if we have a child. Who wants to transition, we owe it to them to make it happen starting right away. There are blue atates or regions where of the parent says to wait until they turn.18.and go out on their own, the government will actually take their children. away and give the child hormones or mutilate them surgically.
As a kid, I was always playing with boys and mostly tomboys. I grew up to be a grandfather and was looking forward to grandchildren. I wound up having two granddaughters. The most enjoyable years of my life were spent with these girls. Since we spent a lot of time together, we mutually chose what we wanted to do. They seemed bent on doing supposedly boyish things like camping, hiking, playing football, etc. I consider myself lucky, because have tomboy granddaughters was like having grandsons, too.
Now here's the end result. Both of the grew up to be successful. They're both heterosexual, happy with their lives, and have outstanding careers. One of them is in the Air Force doing important cybersecurity tasks. I can hardly wait for them to get married so I can have another batch of grandkids to play with Consider yourself, lucky B Jensen. You served two roles!
I’m 60 years old, agree 100% with what she is saying. I amazed and humbled at how well versed and educated this young 22 year old woman is. She presents facts and statistics born out of science and education. She fields random open mic audience questions with calmness, maturity and poise beyond her years. She is a voice of truth and reason not often heard in this country, sadly😢

I went on a mission trip to Africa in Kenya to help a tribal people who have never laid eyes on a white human being such as myself. To my surprise, the first thing that happens is all of the kids came running, surrounding me in a circle and began to touch my arm hair. Lol Every culture does this, especially when you’re new to them. They even called me a “Muzungu” which is a racial term for white man. It was an honor to meet these people and the fact that people were curious about me as a white person was a compliment.
Come back again my Muzungu friend :) People are so sensitive nowadays. I'm glad you see the innocence in them touching you and calling you white man. I'm sure they invited you to break bread with them. Which is sign of acceptance.

I came across Amala some months ago on her own channel and was impressed then by her articulate, intelligent and thoughtful commentaries. To see her carry an entire 90 minutes without notes at such a young age is extremely impressive. She is definitely one of the few beacons of hope for a disunited, broken America.
She is a brilliant and articulate woman. Pray for her safety.

When I was in school many years ago ( I am white) the black girls when sitting at the desk behind me would often ask if they could braid my hair being that it was long and straight. I loved having Someone play with my hair and never thought anything of it. Just because we are curious that we are different than one another doesn’t make us racist. We should embrace our cultures and appreciate one another. What a boring world it would be if we were all the same.
@@charlesgordner8514 This brings back memories of 7th grade! My closest friend was Black. Her name was Muriel. When we got in trouble in class for talking, or passing notes, the teacher would send us to sit in the girls' bathroom. We had this system where one of us would talk and get sent, then the other would, so we could end up in there together, where she would braid my long hair and we talked girl talk. Her family were some of the nicest people ever. Kind of surprised when she invited me over the first time, and I went (1966) but then they were very welcoming, because I was her friend. I have thought of her many times over the years. We moved away and lost touch.

My sister was a complete Tom boy growing up, she played with boys toys, played with all the boys, watched boys cartoons, read boys comics, dressed in jeans only, no skirts or dresses, had short hair…. and even wanted to have a boys name… and so on…
She’s now in her thirties, married, has two daughters and an amazing husband and loves being a pretty intelligent woman and she doesn’t know why she was such a Tomboy, and just shrugs and says, I was just a kid and that’s what made me happy at the time, I never actually wanted to become a boy. Thank God she was born in the late 80s.

I was a tomboy too, I grew out of it and ended up marrying having a bunch of kids, grand kids etc. No regrets about any of the past as such.
And my cousin is transitioning in her 20s. she's never been happier and more down to earth. She has a boyfriend but doesn't want a family. I don't get why you think this is strange. I don't understand it myself but I love her all the same and support her in everything she does
As a boy I played with dolls when I was a child. I never once thought I wanted to be a girl.
Had some deranged adults at the time tried to convince me I was a girl, I probably would have worn dresses.
Why? Because kids don't know what they are. One time I was sure I was a pirate. The next week I was the boy in the ET movie.

Currently, I am more left leaning, but I really enjoy watching Amala’s videos. It’s refreshing to hear thoughts from the other side that are respectful and logical, rather than argumentative.
EDIT: I am now on the right. Regardless of sides, there is no reason to leave rude comments about me or others just because of their political views. It doesn't matter if you're an extreme leftist or a conservative, you should respect people despite their values (like Amala).

@@joewerry9181 There is no right or wrong when it comes to political parties, it’s based on personal beliefs. Yes, the morals are different, and you could definitely argue why one side is wrong. But if you aren’t willing to even listen to the other side, are your own eyes open?
@SkySartix I suppose the media made me default to the left side, and I’ve slowly been coming out of it. In the 00s-10s, my ideas would have been considered liberal, but now they are considered right wing. As I look more into it, I think I am center right, since the standard ideas of the left keep going to the extremes and aren’t reasonable anymore.

As a gay man, I naturally grasped to the left ideology. But, now looking at how society is working, it's opened my eyes. I'm not subscribed to all conservative beliefs but all this encouragement to be racist to white people and/or straight people is out of control!
Amala handles herself incredibly well. She is a strong, mature, highly educated, critical thinker that substantiates all of her arguements well based on scientific journals, and evidence. I am proud of her for saying things that she could easily be cancelled for and go beyond anyway. Her perspectives are very difficult to argue against.

Yeah, Amala is awesome. I'm a lefty, but I enjoyed this video a lot. I found myself agreeing with a lot of what she said and only sometimes thinking: "I'm not sure about that, but I can easily see where she's coming from". I'm a fan.
I’m broadly on the left, but Amala is a very capable and engaging woman on the right. I like her a lot.

Amala, you are amazing! I have lived my life believing in the good of people. As a conservative, your talk has helped me to understand and be more sympathetic towards the left. My previous view of leftists left me quite confused and perplexed. It's refreshing to hear their views are well intended, albeit misunderstood by many in my position.

This African American man came to deliver an Amazon package yesterday and I kid you not, he had the MOST AMAZING HAIR I have EVER SEEN. I couldn’t stop staring at his literal perfect dreads piled onto the top of his head effortlessly and it looked like he had just walked out of a hair appointment with the very best hair artist in the world.
5 years ago I would have openly told him how incredible his hair was and been like an inquisitive child. It was seriously BEAUTIFUL. Now, I couldn’t even bring myself to compliment him. All I could think was that I am terrified to say anything to anyone of color. I feel uncomfortable even making eye contact. I’ve been told I’m a racist by nature simply for being white and shoot if anyone knows I’m conservative, game over. I’m terrified just by standing in my own skin, I’m looked at as scum by so many people of color.
Others say stand up, stop being afraid, stop apologizing…. Guess what? I’m not perfect and I have fear and I hate confrontation. Easier said than done and if you want to tear me down for not standing up, I guess I’ll take that blow too. Not all of us are created to be able to stand and fight in the front lines. I’m just caught somewhere in between, wishing people could see my heart instead of labels or my skin color.
I recently had the same experience. I will always compliment people when I see something amazing or striking. I never had an issue with it but today I’m gtg so many mixed messages it’s easy to say nothing. It’s beyond depressing.

Personally I miss talking to other people's kids. Kids and I become instant friends and one of my favorite things is to interact with them and teach them about the world and encourage their curiosity and develop a sense of love and humor for everything around them. I'm probably the best teacher their parents could ever hope for, but since now everyone is apparently a pedophile, that's gone. I'm sure this fear and hatred of everything is going to do wonders for coming to terms with our issues as a nation and a world, right?

I (a white woman) taught for 30 years in a high school in the LA area, and I can count on one hand the number of white students that were enrolled in my class. It was primarily a working class Latino (outdated term, I guess) neighborhood. Every school year, I had to prove myself, which made sense. I accepted this because young people are looking to see if their mentors are sincere and "for real." It was an interview process, and if I won the respect of most of those 150-180 by November, we had a good year. I formed a good bond with many students, wrote their college letters, and sometimes filled in as a counselor in their times of crisis. I was absolutely a lefty, but I was an adult and their teacher first. My students didn't attempt to bait me, except for a few instances where parents accused me of racism in hopes that I'd change a low grade. It didn't work. I had my POC "A" students as testimony.
I retired, and after a few years, about 2018, I volunteered as a tutor in an after-school program founded by former civil rights leaders--old school MLK Jr folks. I was so excited to share my skill set, teaching grammar and writing there. But none of the older black girls would work with me, preferring the younger Latino tutors. That's OK, I thought. So, the coordinator sent over the younger boys and girls. At first, that went well, but a week later, I can only guess they'd been schooled about CRT, and those boys and girls gave me the cold shoulder. I'd show up, and there was nothing to do but create bulletin boards out of construction paper. Finally, a young Latino boy with ADD was matched with me, and I taught him to read. Also, a little black boy who was clever but ostrasized sat down at my table. He didn't need my help, he said, but he wanted to sit at my table. I never did teach writing or research there. None of the young black ladies would even associate with me. There was a Christmas party, then winter break. The one boy whom I had tutored was moving away. That was it for me. I was tired of getting in my car at the end of the sessions and feeling miserable. And I'm neither plagued with white guilt nor fragility. I had a skillset, and in that place, I could not share my lifetime of experience. I didn't resent those girls nor the elderly founders who were oblivious to the new wokeness. Neither was I a victim. I just needed to be the right fit. When my church also went full-on woke, I gave up whatever pretense I had of being an antiwar activist or environmentalist or any of that. I'm not on the right either. I'm just done with identity politics on either or any side.
So sad when a lifetime of experience is thrown out of the window by young minds that have not been educated, but indoctrinated with falsehoods by people who should know better, but by their own misguided thoughts and education, don't. Thereby passing on the foolishness.

The last guy was really funny to me. He was asking questions to try and corner her rather than actually learn and hear another perspective. He was SO ANGRY and SO SELF-RIGHTEOUS, that it was comical to me. He was itching for a fight - which I recall experiencing myself when lived in a leftist town and worked with leftist organizations. I actually feel bad for the guy - this is no way to live.
Wow. A non- African American guy lecturing an actual African American woman on issues that most certainly in her lifetime will affect her more personally, than they ever will affect him. And to do so in plain sight and with the self-righteous fervor that affords him not one drop of humility, to actually have a moment of realization about what he's doing. He's almost a bully, and in fact would be one for sure (if she let him get away with it.) But she handled it fine.
It's just kind of frustrating. Knowing for example - that although he will argue long and loud and passionately and forever about all the groovy hit points on cops, prisons, the machinery of the law, and that long tumble down the rabbit hole of soft forgiveness for criminals who know exactly what they do and don't give a shit -
but he will never even break a sweat over the rage, despair, grief, agony felt by divers' millions of black boys growing up without fathers.
He should listen clearly and carefully with wide-open ears to just one good honest rant by our friend and mentor, Glenn Loury himself, on the subject - listen well and hear the anguish and the outrage, the blood and guts of a genuine explosion of real emotion, over these same boys, who spend their boyhoods growing up knowing and understanding that in life, they do not count, they do not rate, they do not matter at all - compared to all those other boys growing up out there with fathers, and the all too necessary things that fathers provide sons.
Why does this not matter?
Because the women in question have been handed enough power to "appear" to make it not matter. Politically, socially, even economically to a degree.

Then we were called "Afro-Americans." Then we became "African Americans" and "Black." Now we seem to be evolving into "People of Color" and "Melanated People."

I identify as an Australian, because I was born here and for 6 generations my family were all born here. My ancestry is a combination of aboriginal Australians, French free settlers, English convicts (Norman, so originally noble and were Viking further back) who were colonial slaves, and welsh/English colonists.
I have recently moved from leftist to centre, for many reasons, particularly the polarism and extremism and Cancel culture, because I’m very open minded and respectful of differing opinions, I understand that everything isn’t black and white. A big push I had away from the left was recently in my university studies, I had to do an assignment on the colonial history of my homeland and the discrimination that occurred. For those who don’t know Australian colonial history, discrimination was rife, Scottish and Irish settlers were discriminated against, we have a famous story of an irish settler called Ned Kelly who turned into an outlaw and took a stand against the racist anti-Irish authorities, we had discrimination against the convicts who were kept in slavery to build the colonies and of course racism against the aboriginal communities, which is the main focus in our current historical focus and of course was an important part of my assignment. When I told my story in my assignment, I didn’t tell it from my perspective, I told exactly as it was, as was handed down to me from my elders, the stories of my ancestors and their experiences, terrible experiences, which brought them together, from different cultures, they became one family and now there is me. I felt amazing to be able to share this incredible story. My lecturer failed me, called me “culturally insensitive” which in academic terms means “racist” and made it clear that I should have made my entire focus on expressing the victimhood of the aboriginal “characters” and the “privilege” and “oppressive” behaviours of the “whites”. I should never refer to an indigenous Australian persons as “aboriginal” nor use the word “they” in reference to any indigenous peoples and that I need to add the word “persons” or “peoples” at the end of any statement of “indigenous Australian”.
My lecturer was a white, far left, middle aged, privileged academic. Who believes that me telling my own family story exactly how it is, using the same terms my people accept as correct is racist, that any discrimination and torment experienced by any ancestors with fair skin is irrelevant, they were to be rewritten as privileged oppressors in the story, even the slaves (who’s crimes were petty theft and running a tobacco store in Liverpool, hardly capital crimes!) and that I should have changed my story to suit her agenda.
I am still furious about it.
This is exactly everything that is wrong with the left.

I work in remote Aboriginal communities in Australia and I was in a so-called round table discussion with other people that work in Aboriginal community and the so called mediator in the circle slammed one of the contributors for calling a group of Aboriginal people “they”. It took the focus away from the point he was trying to make, publicly humiliated him, and pretty much caused the so-called round table discussion to end as people were afraid to speak after that.

I think we don't realize how well we have it. My husband is from Korea and black people are treated so much worse there. They are stared at and even feared or followed around stores, I and in china. People really think having black skin can make you dirty.
The top earners in the United States are Taiwanese Americans and Indian Americans. We all different backgrounds and our own disparities based off where and how we grew up, and I always wondered if I have so much privilege as a white person, then why wasn't I able to attend college until I was 30?, and why was I only able to afford a meal every 2 days?? I couldn't see a doctor or get my teeth fixed at the dentist so they were falling out of my mouth. It wasn't until I got on Medicaid and got financial aid for being poor that I was finally able to take my life in the right direction. I don't want to hear that white people have privilege. The rich have privilege, This includes black, white and all people who come from wealthy families

I'm 20 years old and find it hard to find people my age who are tolerant of politics. I don't even care if they are left or right at this point, most people are very intolerant of other people's views and it makes me pretty sad. When I was with my ex, whenever I expressed my opinion he claimed I was in an echo-chamber, and that I was immature and stupid. All I did was express my opinion, I was not aggressive, I was very civil, the only thing I did wrong was that it wasn't politically correct. I'm so tired of living in an age where we cannot have a different opinion without being labeled or criticized. It honestly breaks my heart. I don't really like talking about politics anymore because it puts a bad taste in my mouth. I just want to be surrounded by people who are open minded is all, I've found a few people like that who I call my close friends, but they are very rare. I'm glad Amala is one of the people representing my generation.

People don’t get riled up over opinions, then get riled up over _beliefs_ . They may not think of themselves as religious is the traditional sense, but they can be as fervent and sometimes dogmatic in their politics as the most fire-and-brimstone pastor. Look at vaccines. Look at masks. Look at gender ideology. These things cause VERY strong emotions in people. And it’s because it touches on what they believe in.
Voicing a dissenting opinion is like committing an act of heresy. And you don’t “discuss” heretical ideas, you crush them. Doesn’t matter if you weren’t aggressive, the very idea is dangerous and can’t be allowed to continue. If he wasn’t willing to give you an inch of room, then quite frankly he wanted nothing to do with your beliefs. And a relationship will never last if both personal beliefs can’t coexist.

Well, being politically correct is essential for many people if you don't want to misrepresent yourself. You cannot be fully civil and be politically incorrect.. And maybe you were in an echo chamber as many young people are, I too was in the alt-right echo chamber. But yes, overall I understand, many people get triggered by opinions and might push you away, it's not easy. But good you found some friends to share thoughts and feelings with, I am a socialist, my best friend is a conservative, the other one is a libertarian, and one is a pro-CCP-Russian anti-western establishment freak. and we always have the best and deepest conversations, but sometimes it can get intense. but it's good.

Has the left been keeping America divided? From where I'm sitting, I put equal blame on both. Each side wants their view to be the dominant one and neither is willing to find middle ground. It's comments like yours that keep us divided, because it is quite antagonistic. No one side is responsible for all of our country's woes. What we should be doing, in my estimation, is starting from the presumption that we all want the same basic things: to live, take care of our loved ones, and have a strong country (whatever that means). Then we should find what we have in common first, even on hard issues. Take abortion for example...let's start all conversations by agreeing that we are not in favor of the mother dying and that the mother's human rights are important. Let's establish the baseline that the upper class creates jobs when we start talking about taxing the rich. Let us also not succumb to the tv-friendly arguing we see from politicians. I've travelled a lot throughout the country and we have far more in common than not.

I was a super leftist and worked in restorative justice, specifically re-entry work for 10+ years. I was assaulted in my art studio and watched as the leftist community fell away from me in disgust as my story no longer fit the narrative. I fell in love with another man from the poor black community and moved away from the rich leftist neighborhoods that were no longer comfortable for me due to my trauma. I was called terrible names, accused to be a racist, fetishist and a liar. I hung on to the beliefs until after the George Floyd riots. Then I got involved in the rap community, the only accessible art community to me by then. I watched a forum with rappers talking about BLM being a white sympathy org meant to undermine the urban black community. I began to look into many of the equality movements and found myself agreeing with the rappers. These days I'm in political limbo, but I avoid leftists like the plague. It's not honest

I've been a democrat all my life and so has my family. I've always had this thought that republicans are bad people that don't care about others and that are racist. But the older I'm getting (now 29) the more I've evolving and understanding the world better. I feel like I'm leaning more toward that middle space between both republican and democrat. I deeply admire Amala and the way she thinks and carries herself. I find myself listening to her podcast every night. I'm so happy I started listening to her!

That dude needs to get off the internet and actually interact with people unlike him and think differently than him. Too many young people have the privilege (they end up abusing) to remain in echo chambers for too long. He doesn't seem to comprehend that the crimes in such neighborhoods are what causes the increased law enforcement presence. Instead he criticizes the spend on law enforcement with lack of any accountability or responsibility whatsoever on those breaking the laws.

same LOL, I'm 11 years older than her...and I'm only as recently as 2021 starting to listen to varied perspectives. For me it was an odd experience, because I was born and raised in Jamaica then moved to America when I was 15. Black culture, history and perspectives are different per country, so I took on a posture of learning/ listening to understand, why America is the way it is in terms of race relations and why black Americans feel and think the way they do, and now I'm listening to understand from those who "left the left".

Regarding "systemic" racism, my niece tried "proving" its existence to me by using an example, stating that Blacks have a disproportionately higher rate of incarceration, because police have a disproportionately higher presence in Black neighborhoods! My jaw dropped, not believing I had heard that from a straight-A student. I said to her "Listen, if I'm not doing anything illegal, then I don't give a hoot how many policemen are patrolling my neighborhood at all. I would even invite more police to my neighborhood if possible." She got all emotional and started throwing other examples at me, completely ignoring my original rebuttal. Later, I mentioned the conversation to a practicing lawyer who couldn't believe his ear either. He said a neighborhood would need to have a higher crime rate first, then the city would approve more resources (police presence) in order to lower its crime rate! Of course, lowering the crime rate means making more arrests. It's not because of more police presence that causes more arrests, but it's because of higher crime rate that leads to more police presence that leads a higher incarceration rate. See how the deviant twisted leftist academia is brainwashing our next generations?

I had the same experience, so much anger. I think it's mostly the identity politics of the left thought, I still prefer the environmental and economic policies of the left. Although at the moment the labor party is led by a "former" right wing rich politician that's selling out our country for profit and couldn't care less about the environment, so I guess it doesn't even matter. Having taught critical theory and related Neo-Marxist ideologies to hundreds and hundreds of undergraduate future teachers over the course of years, she is absolutely correct in where she places the blame. Like you, I also Left the Left as I have watched in horror over the past several years how it leaped into the larger public discourse and even policy. I was doing a postdoctoral fellowship coming off a quantitative focused PhD program and thought critical policy studies and race theory, etc was radical and cool. And it is/was, provided it stayed in discussions at universities. So, now, many years later, I am on an active mission to help correct a problem that I ignorantly helped to propagate and create without giving any thought to future manifestations. And as she mentions, it's particularly seductive to liberal intellectuals for some reason.

I think what Amala said about going into conversations with someone you disagree with under the mindset of just trying to understand that person is so valuable. Especially now. When you conduct yourself in that way it commands so much more respect than if you just go into the conversation looking to prove the other wrong. And it tends to make them more open to hearing what you say because you were willing to listen and hear what they had to say.
I love watching her grow as a person. She is getting better at communicating and explaining her stance

I was a 14 yr old white girl who lived with my black best friend and her family as a foster child.
I had many black friends in school and none that were white. I always felt like they were judging me because my friends were black, but the reality…I was the one who pushed them away because they were white. I had become racist against my own race because they weren’t like me.
I’m thankful I grew up loving all people regardless of race and found that most people are just like me…..”regardless of race.”

I love her talking approach, so is so intelligent while not being overconfident or big headed which is a mistake so many activists make. We really need more people like her who have the knowledge but also can translate that into great talking points rather than simply going on a full attack against the opposition.
Amala helped me realize how deep in an ideological rabbit hole I really was in and hearing her talk with Jordan Peterson was so enlightening. I feel much more free now after shedding the label and just analyzing things critically as they come rather than "finding out" what I'm supposed to believe.
when i was 10 and getting my period, i didnt realize that i would feel so confortable in my body today (25). When i was 7 I didnt know that thoughts were private and people cannot actually hear or know my thoughts. When I was 5 i found out that people still live and act and breathe when they are outside of your view. i was learning and growing up.

I grew up in the 70s and ALL children "rebel" for lack of a better word and hopefully we did not do things to ourselves that would harm then or in the future. As a Hispanic person who immigrated to the United States as an adult, I can tell you from firsthand experience that I have NEVER felt discriminated against by a white person. I must admit that before moving, I had anticipated encountering discrimination based on what I saw in social media and Hollywood, but I was SO wrong. Thank you for putting this stuff out there.
