Wow, consider me impressed. It makes me wonder how far along the RP5 really was when they announced it, considering how they were willing to change the colorways and the RAM just like that, but this is certainly all good news. Can't wait for reviews to see how it fares on heat & battery life!
I think the way it goes is when you have a product set for a certain date you have a factory lined up to produce that order to produce in mass, so the shells are basically formed based on a design but then can be coloured. They changed stuff about the Mini's colours too. So they maybe have a week before the Mini is final and a month before the RP5 is final. RAM would possibly be trickier but based on the speed I assume they were able to just get sort an order for 8GB but it would've costed more, this is why the retail price will be higher when it's actually released but might not have gone down well had they raised the early bird and pre-order prices already announced. But other hardware changes would be risky at this point and likely push the release date later for testing.
I don't think These devices are getting tested this much, otherwise they would have fixed the faulty shoulder Buttons one the rp4pro etc. That's also my concerns with the very late Changes to the rp5 and a13 in this chip will be very experimental anyway.
Thank you for this video. I had decided that, based on the previous info, I wasn't going to buy this. It had the same specs as many outdated phones. But with this new info, I'm thrilled! I'll wait for taki udon and a couple other youtubers to get theirs, first, though. Let them work out any bugs, first, then I'll purchase one. 🤣🤣🤣
$220 is more than reasonable with the new specs - especially with the early bird saving! I'm so tempted to sell my RP3+ but im concerned that there may be faults with the initial run of 5s as per the 4s with their trigger buttons and that. I might hang fire for a couple of months and miss that early bird saving just to see the initial reviews.
Wondering what I'd gain upgrading from the RG556 to this given that it already has the AMOLED screen, Android 13, 8GB of RAM, etc... and that it's the Snapdragon and Linux potential that are the deciders... worth it? And why?
My guess would be that, unless there are any specific GC or PS2 games you really want to play and the 556 can't quite handle, or if you really want a slightly smaller form factor, then no, it won't be worth it.
I’m guessing this will still struggle with some ps2? At $220 I start thinking more about the Odin 2. I don’t have much time to play so I’m not in much of a rush and will wait to see prices around Black Friday and wait until after Christmas if needed.
So I've got a 2S,I'm happy but will maybe get the mini next year. Is this a good enough jump? Also, what handheld can the rpmini be compared to? And since it's this small, why wouldn't people just buy this over the rp5 if they are the same in power?
I got the Odin 2 pro and I love it, but the mini seems like a good grab to have if you want something a little more smaller were u can throw it in your bag and pretty much take it anywhere. Not saying the Odin 2 can't be taken everywhere but that size with amoled screen looks like a great combo to have with the odin 2. now if I didn't have the Odin 2 I would've grabbed the RP5 in the GC color. It's Shame they didn't give the mini a GC option would've been nice 😂
@@abdullahdouglas6929 yeah, if they can ship it by end of this month yes, but end of october? it is too far away... I got odin just to mainly for streaming,
Changes are great, I am impressed with Retroid. I wonder if it will be at all possible to include a slightly newer, more powerful processor as well, since there won't be a pro version, apparently. 🍻🤞🏼
Don't be fooled. Just because they aren't going to call it a "pro" version doesn't mean anything. They could just call it a plus, or 5.5, or even just call it 6. The name doesn't matter. The fact is that an upgraded variant will be on the way eventually.
Why is a Retroid pocket shipping with Android 13 good news? From what I understand 13 eats up 2 GB of ram while previous versions only used one. That takes your 8 gigabytes of RAM and turns it into 6.
It will matter more for the RP5 in the end but the main issues are compatibility, security and futureproofing. There will be apps and games that won't work on Android 10, and depending what else you use the device for then you might be open to exploits considering the OS is an older version. And it would be frustrating if there were apps next year you wanted to use next year on your new RP5 that weren't compatible with Android 10. It's less of a problem with the Mini, as that 4:3 screen basically is all about staying in retro gaming and having that extra RAM might be useful when applying HD textures to certain games for example as they can eat up a bunch of RAM.
@@-roetaka thank you very much for the explanation. I was genuinely curious. My use case scenario does not have me taking several of those things into account.
Of course. Slightly better than last gen. It's not a huge performance upgrade because they already hit the main target of being able to cover ps2/gc/wii (and some very easy switch games).
Was very disappointed with the choice of that anemic 865 SoC for this, so I've decided to go all in and get the new Redmagic 10inch Nova tablet with the Snapdragon Gen 3 chip that's launching on the 27th of September..I think that with a telescopic game controller will see me set for Android Emulation for the next 2yrs or so. I needed a new tablet anyway for portable media viewing, so the added gaming chops of a Snapdragon Gen 3 was just too tempting.
Nahhhhh definitely dont trust retroid after my experiences.......make this date I bet ya it doesn't ship with A13 and I'll say it now Linux won't come til end of next year if that

It was rumoured that RP Mini will get an OTA update of Android 13 in future.
I'm not sure how they'll handle it from their side but the option is there for us to flash it ourselves.

We don't need all the other sales information stuff😂🤦♂️
Several options:
GameSir G8 usb-c or G8+ Bluetooth controller
Or
BsP D8 or D8 pro
I can’t believe this is considered good. Android 14 released nearly a full year ago 😂
So, what? You want android 20? Android 13 and 8GB of ram is way better than what was revealed previously, you dingo
Im running android 10 and it can do everything an average joe can do on 13 or 14.
Are you buying this to be a tablet or to be a retro handheld?
Well that's not really an issue, you don't need android 14 for anything we're doing with these. The point is not being limited to android 10.
Make it a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 for crying out loud. Not even a Snapdragon 888.
if you want more performance, just buy a odin, stop crying
It’s $199 with a 5.5 OLED. 865 is appropriate
That will increase the cost. Just buy an Odin 2 if you want more power.
