I have the same chipset, S20FE running android and I can't get a stable frame rate. I have tried using the turnip drivers and it helped a little. I am missing something somewhere
For those dealing with bad frame pacing on Dolphin, it's because the device currently seems to have some kind of bug that has Vsync OFF on Android. I made a video on my channel that shows how to set Vsync to On for each game individually, since Dolphin doesn't have a Vsync toggle. Hope it helps everyone until an OTA update comes out to fix this issue! (Also applies to ASX2 and Duckstation, but those have their own Vsync/Sync to Host Refresh Rate toggles)
It's actually a bug with older android versions. I've been dealing with this since I've owned the Retroid Pocket 3+ on android 11. The mini runs on 10 I believe. It's nice to see someone else mentioning this issue and the same solution. I racked my brain on this issue for months and it really bothered me that NO ONE mentioned the terrible frame pacing on any Retroids running older versions of Android. Later android versions like 13 and 14 don't have this vsync issue which is why the RP4P and the coming RP5 will be good without this pacing issue. I think this issue with the Mini should be talked about more.
@@ProphitDesigns Oh wow, so it's dependent on the Android version itself? Here I was thinking maybe Retroid just messed up somewhere, but it's a bug of the android version itself? Interesting. Hopefully the 13 update should fix that then! Glad to see I'm not the only one talking about it!! (:

It really is a great looking little device. I would choose the mini over the 5 any day of the week. I never really understood why manufacturers always seem to go for a 16:9 screen when 90% of what you will play on it is made for a 4:3 screen. I would even take 3:2 over 16:9. The screen on this looks amazing, I do wish it was 4inches though.
I prefer 4:3, but my eyes are getting too old so I had to go with the 5 for the bigger screen. At least it'll also make NDS and 3DS games better to play, being able to keep both screens visible at all times.
16:9 screens can handle more consoles. PSP and Nintendo handhelds fit better. A lot of games from SNES and up have widescreen hacks. The RP5 is just 1mm taller and about 1mm thinner with a wider body. With the 5.5" screen. It will play 4:3 a little bigger than the mini. I really wanted to get the mini, but playing psp sucks on a 3.5" 4:3 screen, GBA isn't bad, but will look better on a 16:9.
Yeah especially when you have to use hacks and mods for good widescreen, otherwise you have black bars. There’s just something aesthetically pleasing about a screen like this that fits the original resolutions, or close to it.

Lots of reviews forget to re-enable dual core. Dolphin likes to automatically disable dual core on f-zero and you have to fix it in the per-game settings.
Main reason I'll get the RP5 instead of the Odin 2 is the swelling batteries on the AYN, even happened to yours, and I'm not sure if you even played it much until it happened
Weird thing is the swelling went down a bit after not using it for a while. It got used from time to time, especially testing out games, but not like a super daily thing. I'd blame charing it a lot on the dock but I have my GEEK1S docked all the time and haven't had a problem with that.
Wait, the batteries on the odin 2 are swelling? I'm contemplating to buy an odin 2 instead of the rp5, because I would really like to play switch, but it costs 50% more and I really don't like the bigher size, but such battery issues are a big no for me..
Is this common problem? Have the cause been identified? I also have Odin 2, currently there is no swelling, so hopefully my device is safe from this problem.

Hi, did you ever tried the Razer Edge? For you comparing the Edge and the future Retroid Pocket 5, what is the best console, considering that the Edge mount a snapdragon 888+ and 6gb ram, and The new RP5 (as the rp5 mini) mount a snapdragon 865 but with 8gb of Ram?
So the Razer Edge only properly compares if you're getting it second hand, otherwise it's like twice the price of the RP5 brand new. The little bit of extra power the Edge would have over the RP5 isn't super worth it, not when it only really matters for Winlator and Switch for emulation and that's not saying much. It's also just really wide with the controllers and I never thought it was that much of a good looking device. Looking forward to getting my RP5 though.

Yeah I guess it's debatable if you wanna say the RPMini is pocketable or not but I think it is, I'm thinking the RP5 might take the spot if it isn't that much bigger but I'm loving the size and 4:3 screen.
Hmm I do actually find it decently comfortable to use everything on the device except the triggers, I just find them too tight and wish I could pull down on the edges more. How is the feel of RP Mini in your pocket? And also the screen size, do you feel it's big enough to still be enjoyable? I want to upgrade my RG405M, but still not sure if it's comfortable enough in my pocket as good as RG405M.

Those clackety buttons became more and more annoying the longer the video went on. Do you think disassembling it and putting electrical tape on the pads might mitigate the issue somewhat or is the noise coming from the buttons running on the glass front?
Based on a tear down I've seen...so you have the plastic buttons which are glued to a circular rubber membrane and those have a contact that when it touches the circuit of the motherboard it registers an input. It's the way the button springs back that's making the most sound so as @AishTalksTech mentioned in another comment he decided to trim the rubber membrane to reduce the noise. I'm curious if SakuraRetroModding will make some buttons, he usually makes buttons that are a a touch rounded and shorter so that could be a fix but if the rubber membrane really is just too tall then that's mostly the culprit and a trim could help. I'm not sure if I wanna do it myself but I do have new buttons coming and I really don't know why they didn't ship with the Mini.
I'm on the fence about this and I have no interest whatsoever in the full-sized Retroid 5 due to its size. To me, pocket-friendliness is the whole selling point of devices like this, otherwise it kinda has to compete with the Steam Deck on comfort/performance/etc.
I preordered the 5 and am waiting (im)patiently for it to release, but if a Flip 2 comes out shortly after, I'm really going to kick myself for not waiting... The thought never crossed my mind.

Is that what happened to you lol. I avoided the Odin 2 Mini and I think I made the right call there, it's expensive and I kinda think the RP5 is gonna be a truer Vita style even if not completely in its look.
Yes it is, there's a link to the handheld in the description and Wii is playable. Bare in mind it doesn't come with roms, all the setup of emulation and getting roms is down to you, and for a beginner I very much recommend retrogamecorps.com/ for tips and guides.
I use emulation handhelds and only use my own ripped roms. I'm ngl I'm thinking based on them being mostly similar specs and that you can buy buttons from their store that they're gonna be mostly the same. However, the 4 and 5 are interchangable, so that will be interesting.
That will probably change nothing, since as far as I know you only change the plastic buttons, but the click noise comes from the board under the plastic buttons.

I'm on the fence about this and I have no interest whatsoever in the full-sized Retroid 5 due to its size. To me, pocket-friendliness is the whole selling point of devices like this, otherwise it kinda has to compete with the Steam Deck on comfort/performance/etc.
Agreed! The same comfy experience as my GBA back in the day but can play PS2/GC. That’s the sweet spot.
Is it possible to turn off the lights of the joysticks ?
Yeah that can be set to off. They're quite dim for the video but they can be set a lot brighter with different colors per stick.
@@-roetaka ok thanks
man the design is almost perfect but i hate the front glossy finish.
Facts l 😂😂
This is from ayaneo? Looks like and very much a step down of the ayaneo
Retroid Pocket is the company name. These are not as polished as most AYANEO products, but are also a lot cheaper than most of them.
Please make a Pegasus tutorial
I will wait for the Flip 2. Would love to have the 5,5“ OLED Screen in a clambshell device.
I preordered the 5 and am waiting (im)patiently for it to release, but if a Flip 2 comes out shortly after, I'm really going to kick myself for not waiting... The thought never crossed my mind.
The screen is a bit small. Too bad they couldn't get a 4" or more OLED without that enormous bezel.
Was TP running at native?
It was at 2x, settings for Dolphin are shown at 10:10
@@-roetaka Nice! Mybad, TP is a Fav.
Imagine dropping $300+ on Odin 2 to then shortly get baited to buy the Odin 2 Mini - only to still grab a RP Mini
That’s handheld addiction at its finest 😂
Is that what happened to you lol. I avoided the Odin 2 Mini and I think I made the right call there, it's expensive and I kinda think the RP5 is gonna be a truer Vita style even if not completely in its look.
Is this legal? Is this buyable? Can we play the Wii?
yes, yes, and yes
Yes it is, there's a link to the handheld in the description and Wii is playable. Bare in mind it doesn't come with roms, all the setup of emulation and getting roms is down to you, and for a beginner I very much recommend retrogamecorps.com/ for tips and guides.
@@-roetaka Ohhhhh thanks a lot now I understand how come it’s not illegal
I use emulation handhelds and only use my own ripped roms. I’m not judging anyone for doing what they have to do (most people either aren’t old enough to have them all at reasonable prices or didn’t keep their old games like me 😅) just saying it’s possible to fully take advantage of the space perfectly legally.
@@shecklesmack9563 I really don’t care that it’s legal at all, I just wonder how these consoles are on the market without a hitch and how their producers haven't been sued
screen size is too small they should have released the 5 first
The buttons are so loud. I hope the pocket 5 doesn't have that problem.
I'm ngl I'm thinking based on them being mostly similar specs and that you can buy buttons from their store that they're gonna be mostly the same. However, the 4 and 5 are interchangable, so that will be interesting.
@@-roetaka that's good. 4 pro buttons sound great.
That will probably change nothing, since as far as I know you only change the plastic buttons, but the click noise comes from the board under the plastic buttons.
@@Watamel0n The board isn't using dome switches so there are things that can be done to mute the noise, I'm also looking forward to custom buttons as I think I'd really want those for the Mini.
@@-roetaka Wait. I saw another video where they took it apart and the buttons on the 4 aren't interchangeable. The 5 buttons are glued on to the rubber membrane.
Damn clacky buttons. Deal breaker for me :(
I will give credit oled looks good.....screen is definitely small didn't see the point of this with the RP5 being sold and I wouldn't trade my Odin 2 mini for either this chip is too dated I like having too much power a one and done.....
I’ll wait for the release of the full size version lol I don’t get why they would make this thing
Lol what? This thing literally fits in your pocket
I did basically make a whole video on why they would make this thing haha
If you don't get it then you're not the target audience. Good thing the world doesn't revolve around your desires.
The fact that the majority of games consoles were ~4:3 until the PS3/Xbox 360 era?
@@AJDOLDCHANNELARCHIVE Forget playing PSP though
After playing around with Switch emulation Im realizing 99.9% of Switch games are so lame anyway just adult visual novels and old ports the RP5 could be great.
true yet zelda botw and smash ultimate are enough for me to need one 😭
The fact that Zelda TOTK won't run on any android handheld makes me consider getting a modded switch and stop trying to emulate Switch @@terocan9987
L take. There are a ton of masterpieces on the Switch, especially if you are an RPG and platformers fan
My A34 has a bigger and better
