I mean yeah it COULD be serral, but in all honesty zerg has been dominant for a long time. Even after a ton of nerfs they're still dominant. I think the outlier is the race here, not the players.

lol, just accept Serral is _that_ good, especially knowing that out of all three races (specially now with nerf after nerf) Zerg is the one that takes the most _hands_ to fully use its potential within the pro stage.
@@InfectiousXThe problem is that it actually takes certain skills to play Zerg effectively. Which eliminates most players.
If people wanted to train and practice with Zerg, they could theoretically reach Serrals level, but they chose Terran or Protoss.
Zerg has a high advantage, if you have the high skill to take advantage. Which you could argue is unfair, but Serral is an outlier. You don't nerf the entire race, because one person is able to dominate.
Protoss has a much lower skill cap, and Terran has a higher skill cap.
You might as well advocate for nerfing Korean players. It makes the same amount of sense.
Next balance patch will say "serral can only play with one hand"

Year that was Serrals strongest performance yet. Its just crazy how good he is when you look at his unit movement, his ability to give every action that happens just enough attention it needs. People are screaming now from all corners that zerg is op, but (as Harstem recently said) Serral is just an outlier, he is in a league of his own right now. Personally i am sure, if Serral were to play Protoss, he would be just as OP, because (save for Max Pax) we dont have a Protoss player right now that even gets close to Serrals skilllevel, be it mechanically or tactically. @@DarsusD

this is the single best game of starcraft I've ever seen. The fungal sniper attacks were just jaw-dropping.

Meanwhile, Serral: Has multiple units who do nothing but detect follow his army so they don't constantly die to mines/ghosts/banshees

Yeah but why use mobile detection when you have instant, unlimited range and uncounterable detection ? Scan is too powerfull, nerf the scan and we'll see ravens.
@TyphoonJig here is the thing , and i am not saying anything about how powerful the scan is, but the scan is not all perfect , needs energy and to be correctly used and as we saw this game a pixel short of the right spot and the scan is useless.
I think lowko's point is just too good , maybe the terrans became too dependant on the scans and yeah might be because how good they are , but just because something is played in a certain way at the moment doesnt mean the other option is not viable , and i think for how the game went the mobile free detection would have made a difference
You must applaud the tenacity of Maru. By min 20 we all saw the inevitable outcome yet he made Serral struggle to win for double that!
Serral's APM is high, but it's his efficiency of action (along with the world-best scouting) that really differentiates him against everyone else. His macro, unit micro, strategic decision making, etc are all among the best but his ability do all of it at the same time with very few mistakes is unparalleled.
I get all my starcraft 2 updates from you lowko, Not too much of a fan of other people commentating games, haven't seen any pro games you've commentated. You just go abit more in depth on some of the little things most people dont think about to cover. Appreciate every video keep up the good work :D

Really, the only player I've seen make active use of Neosteel Armor in the early game is Ketroc, since he plays a very unique turtle style, but he uses it to do fast expands, building new Command Centers in his main, loading up 10 SCVs, flying out to an expansion, unloading and building a Planetary Fortress (which have 5 armour with Neosteel Armor) and a heap of Missile Turrets!
SC2 really is a masterpiece of an RTS game

SC2 is a good game but it's death to RTS genre. It's too complex. Casuals want to look around with WASD and spend all their time controlling army instead of macroing. That's what casuals want. As long as we cater to RTS fans RTS will remain niche as heck.
@@F4c2a I largely agree with you. I haven't played SC2 in probably 10 years or so, but I still enjoy watching high-level games for the sake of entertainment and nothing else. When I say "masterpiece", I just mean it's really well designed, almost as an art form. It is incredibly difficult, and for that reason, it will remain a niche game
As I commented on the ESL stream as well, surely Serral has completed SC2 now and can start doing side-quests like winning IEM with Protoss? People are screaming zerg is op year after year, so I'd really really want him to just dominate a major tournament with an offrace to shut people up.
Saw your comment in the live-stream. o/ Serral is about to leave for military service, and IIRC Dark is going to the military too, so SC2 will see another year of Terran dominance with the likes of Maru, Clem, Cure, ByuN, Oliviera, etc. still in, just like we saw 1 season ago, during the 2022-2023 season. SC2 players have short memories 🙂
@@HaploBartow Oh right I forgot about the military service. That's a bummer, it's gonna be an all terran season. Can only hope MaxPax keeps improving so we'll at least get some toss in online tourneys.

I would think controlling an extra group for ravens is less apm than having 20 ccs and dropping a hundred scans.

Thats insane... From 2023 being a completely unexpected winner to 2024 being the most expected winner.... 20-1 run i believe is the best run made in SC2
He probably remembers all those SC2 games because (and no judgement here, how else do you become the very best?) he has gone over each of them time and time again possibly to work out what went right, wrong, and why.
But every Pro SC2 player does that. Serral must remember games to an unusual degree for Reynor to specifically point it out like that

17:00 It's used in really awesome diamond - masters Speshul Taktcs! Ketroc had a great SCV drop/ planetary rush the features early game building armor that he'd play on masters level. lol.

the pro's not building ravens really makes me mad at this point.

and its kinda unreal that terran has a unit that hard counters it but yet, they refuse to build it.
yes, these players are not human anymore and i cant imagine how hard it would be to play like this but this game was another example of what feels like beeing stubborn.
every fungal hit screams BUILD A RAVEN.
and its not that fungal is something that happens every now and then, no, its a zerg stable and you see infestors in EVERY game.
Just a reminder - Terran has no ground turret / defence - putting marines in bunker equal to less attacking army. The same with Raven. It cost 2 supply. Overseer doesn't cost supply. Zerg player can have as many overseer they want. The more Raven you have, the less army you can own. The less army you have, the worse the engagement you have. Terran also need medivac because they don't auto heal unlike zerg ( or protoss shield). This also lead to less army, which lead to worse engagement.
we talk about having ONE raven......... and you can simply putting it on order to follow a medivac@@RealFableFox
Ravens do not hard counter infestors... they are just detector-spellcasters. They need attacking units to kill the infestor.

It amazes me how consistently Serral manages to place his infestors just outide of scan ranges time and time again. I'm not just talking about this game, he's done it consistently for months, game after game after game, against various opponents of the highest caliber. When Lowko mentioned Serral training hard, I wonder how much of that training has been spent in figuring out exactly how to to force his opponent to create blind spots in their scans during engagements. And the only solution for terran players would be to systematically drop one or two extra scans at every engagement.
Or perhaps, you know, get a Raven :D

I think one of the problems the balance committee has is that Serral is too good. The domination at IEM of one of the best other players in the world is crazy. Maru destroyed everyone else, then Serral destroyed Maru. They could take out the queen and banelings, and Serral still would find a way to win. I think they should just ignore him when looking at any balance changes.
There's absolutely zero way, ZERO way, Zerg would win a professional match ever again without queens. If queens got removed or even changed to only shoot at ground units, any Toss or Terran pro would auto-win against Zerg by just rushing out an Oracle or a Banshee. Banelings are less critical, but still pretty important to Zerg strategy.
The real issue here is Protoss isn't quite strong enough and Terran is a bit too strong. Another balance patch is needed to buff Toss a bit more and nerf Terran a bit more. Serral is about to head to the military in April for the next year anyway, so nerfing Zerg for him specifically would be a waste of time and just lead to more Terran dominance.
Yeah, I was just being hyperbolic about the queens and banelings. But I see everyone complain about "Zerg's too imba, look at Serral winning," and get annoyed. It sure will be interesting when he has to leave for military service, and whether anyone outside of South Korea can compete!
How Maru held up for that long is beyond me! 😱 gg!

A fantastic match, Serral proving zerg nerfs don't matter, he is the greatest player in the game's history. Going 20-1 in a huge tournament is insane. He destroyed arguably the best Terran player his strategic thinking and reactions are amazing to see unfold in games. And he only lost one to Dark a previous world champion.
Love seeing Zerg having a chance against Terran. Serral is the only one who can manage it, sort of.

19:37 the more you look, the more bizarre it gets. Trust me. First scan almost revealed the infestor, also the second one too, and he moves away, then he dodge the third scan and massive corrosive. Thats the finisher.

When Serral 3-0ed Clem, i knew Maru didn't have a chance. Also i think Maru was feeling more pressure since last year he lost the grandfinals as a heavy favorite.
4000 elo vs a Terran in Aligulac. Around 400 more than the rest of the Zergs at every match...
Fungal is just soo much easier to land and it deals a ton if not game ending damage.

Serral might be the best player in the world but fungal growth is still the most ridiculous, overpowered spell in the game. Ravens aren't going to change that.

viewer games at 20 minutes: barely getting a second base, 60 supply and no upgrades done.
serral and maru at 10 minutes: maxed out supply and upgrades on 5+ bases with good economy and constant harassments.
i still love the viewer games tho (:
They need to nerf Zerg again. It’s unfair how much advantage they get with map control, also being faster and gaining resources way faster. Terran can bearly survive against endless armies
Hi lowko former gold 1 zerg here, I was wondering your thoughts on shift + P for overlords + movement speed. With 5 overlords you basically have full vision of the map and can spend the Amp else.

- Response time from Serrals prefered mouse and keyboard brand nerfed
- Amount of cafeine on Serrals prefered coffee brand nerfed

There should be a mechanism to recycle units. to have to suicide them to refill supply is dumb. I think there is great stuff to modify around units number in general in starcraft 2.
Life is the best zerg of all time.
A few psychological studies of the top SC2 players (especially Serral) such as I.Q. and a Spectrum Analysis could be quite fascinating. You're just not normal to play so well. In a good way.

They could be a realy useful asset for the Zerg
Threat of neural is a good reason not to make too many or to fly a raven w/ max energy into a fight, but it's probably still worth it to have one raven available for spot detection, especially early on when orbital energy is better saved for other things. If nothing else you can just place auto-turrets (which AFAIK can't be neuraled anyway) whenever your raven gets 50 energy to make sure any neural is more or less a waste of energy. IMO ravens actually get _less_ useful in late game v Zerg (e.g. 20min+) when Terrans have what Lowko calls the Iron Bank (7+ orbitals) and start pushing out with mass missile turrets.
