You're the only modeler I've seen in all these countless molding videos and tutorials to use that beauty coat method to prevent bubbling. I'm still learning but it looks like it works really well and I wonder why no one else (or no one I've seen) does this.

Wow, I really love Muck's expression and face. I think I might need to order a cast.

This may be a ridiculous question, but did you fire the clay positive before molding? I would think that if you didn't there could be danger when brushing on the beauty coat-but if I could skip that step, it would be great.

Hey Nathan! Not a ridiculous question at all! I didn't fire the sculpt as this is Chavant Medium which is an oil based clay-now THAT would be a mess as it would melt lol! This clay is pretty durable so if you use a light hand, you can paint on the beauty coat of silicone and then pour on the rest of the silicone! Once cured, we are good to go! Hope this helped answer your question!

Random question but how long do you wait for the beautiful coat to set in silicone before pouring over the flood layer. I do beauty coat casting in plaster and didn't know silicone could work that way.

Hey there! So this silicone has a 6 minute work time so once the beauty coat is on, I’m mixing for the flood layer! It is a 30 demold time so after the 30 min mark, I demold and it’s ready for resin! I hope this helps!

@@Tobywaynestudios Sorry I meant was the beauty coat past the 6-minute work time mark when you filled the rest of the mould. I'm wondering if I can do this method with the longer Mold Star 30 which pot life is 45 min.

Oh! Sorry if I misunderstood! Yeah! As soon as that beauty coat is applied, you can immediately apply the silicone on top of the beauty coat!

It’s probably better with the MoldStar 30 as you have more time to make sure everything is perfect! I like the Mold Star 16 but boy howdy I gotta move FAST!

@@Tobywaynestudios Thanks! It's has been a long time since I've casted in silicone but I need to make reusable push moulds so this has been very helpful.
