    (Sheet music with treble and bass clefs if anyone is interested. I'd say it is pretty accurate. It was a little hard for me to write out the licks but you'll get the idea and can refer to Kent's tutorial.
    Please also note that Kent sometimes plays slight differences in his first play through compared to his tutorial. I imagine this is intended but i have used my judgement to pick what version of the bar to enter. Also note that i initially labelled a few of the B flats as a reminder (despite the key being in F- all Bs are flats unless otherwise stated / cancelled with a neutral). Hope this helps anyway).
    Hi Kent
    Thanks for doing this. I really enjoyed your version and the way that you played it. Nice and clean and appears close to the original from what i can tell. It has also made it accessible for someone like me, especially with your tutorial.
    I'm able to read music ( just about) and don’t personally known the name of a lot of chords.. hence i have made a mock up of what you played and put it to paper. Hope it is okay for me
    to share.

    This is a really good one. Nice slow pace in the analysis. It will take some work, but I can learn this. I've been hard to work on getting all secondary dominants down, so they will plug right in. It helps when you have some insight into why the chords are what they are.

    When ad-libbing over the changes of this great tune, my bass player and I have real trouble following its form (without the chart.) After the two-bar C7 interlude we have to make sure we shorten what was previously the "A" section. I swear Oscar wrote it this way just to drive us lesser mortals nuts. Still, I love jamming this song. Unfortunately, my hands aren't strong enough to truly sustain the thunderous climax of rolling chords that Oscar ends this with. (I've rarely heard anyone other than Oscar pull off that ending with enough power.) As always, thanks, Kent.

    • @KentHewittpiano88
      @KentHewittpiano88  6 лет назад

      You have stated exactly how I felt about soloing on this tune. So maybe he did it that way just to confused us (drive us lesser mortals nits) or make it more unpredictable...because it forces us to really think! And no....I can't play the rolling chords ...probably no one could on his level.

    Thank you Kent. Wonderfully modulated playing and explanation of great music. In the taste of jazz at the end, you refer to a 3-6-2-5-1 progression. How do I identify that in this or any song ? I have been learning the chordal progression in B flat.

    • @KentHewittpiano88
      @KentHewittpiano88  3 месяца назад

      It just the movement of the chords...diatonic or altered. In the key of F it would be Am7 Dm7 Gm7 C7 F... the Dm7 could be altered to D7.

    I must admit I both admire and slightly Envy how effortlessly you can make that 10th reachyour Bass hand. As much as I may practice my hand size makes this difficult to consistently play this without muddying in other keys. Any suggestions? Sometimes I'm just able to take that 10th note and turn it into an octave in my right hand. Are there tricks I can do with the pedal to smooth it out a little bit?

    • @KentHewittpiano88
      @KentHewittpiano88  6 лет назад +1

      If you watch some more of my videos especially (see below) I show how I use a jump technique holding the bass note with the sustain pedal and moving the thumb quickly up to the 10th. It's also called broken 10ths. I hope the video will help.

    In Bar 10.You do different variations of that chord.Sometimes you do an octav in many of the chords. and sometimes not .It makes the sound a little different but not much.

    • @KentHewittpiano88
      @KentHewittpiano88  8 лет назад

      I think you're talking about the bar that has the approached tones to Bb, the jazz interpretation would be a III-VI-II-I progression to the IV chord ie: Dm7-G7-Cm7-F7 to Bb. On the head, it's just a Dm7 to an F7/C but for jazz improv. purposes it becomes more of a cycle of 5ths ...therefore the jazz progression.

    Kent I have another essential question regarding the interpretation of scales, should each scale be interpreted as do re mi fa sol ti do, or only de C major scale? And than the F scale, for example, fa-sol-la-te-do-re-mi-fa? I have always been learning it doing do re mi fa sol la ti do for each scale but i don't know if that is the right way, and i don't want to learn it wrong as it will be hard to unlearn. Kind regards

    • @KentHewittpiano88
      @KentHewittpiano88  6 лет назад

      I think you learned it the right way. You are defining the scale from it's root no matter what the pitch. They are all the same, just starting on a higher or lower pitch. I prefer the numbering system rather then do- re , etc. I call it 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Check out my ear training video for more on this: ruclips.net/video/GspUTUL5F-o/видео.html

    • @evertdude
      @evertdude 6 лет назад

      thanks for the respons! I like to use the numbers also but especially for chords. I just read the other day, on wikipedia, that the one system is fixed do and the other is movable do. thx for making things more clear, God bless you!

    @johndavidson1143 8 лет назад

    I downloaded the score, thanks very much. When you get time might you be able to expand on the jazz interpretation at the end not necessarily note for note but more extensive and a little slower for less-experienced players like me to grasp?

    • @KentHewittpiano88
      @KentHewittpiano88  8 лет назад +1

      John, have you tried using the RUclips feature to slow down the video? While the video is playing click on the wheel symbol below the video and select speed. Then select .5 (1/2 speed). It will slow down the video without changing the pitch (but the voice sounds funny). Also you can stop the video by using the enter tab on your keyboard. Or you can reverse (rewind the video using the left arrow tab and advance the video using the right arrow tab. It's cool...give it a try.

    • @KentHewittpiano88
      @KentHewittpiano88  8 лет назад

      John, I meant to say use the space bar to stop or pause the video, not the enter tab. Hit the space bar again and it will resume.

    Hi Kent. It is still really hard for me to be able to say the chords while I am plying the tune.There is so many chords.I can play the tune almost super ok know.So know I have to keep playing it so I dont forget.I will soon start on love me tender where you start out with block chords and then go into more advance concepts.I can see that you have written out love me tender with chords could you do the same with Hymn to freedom so I have it not only with leed sheet but also with chords written out.??.

    • @KentHewittpiano88
      @KentHewittpiano88  8 лет назад +1

      I'll put that on my TO-DO list. You need to understand root position block chords first, before you'll have expertise in spread voicings. You want to get to what I call the 3 positions before you have the complete picture. Please check out my book ...which covers that. www.kenthewitt.com/id31.html

    Among the many things that disturbed me, the fact that you do the " blues leak " without the left hand doing it is just too frustrating, you really miss the core of this thing if you do it with only one hand.

      Sorry there were "many". I learned in the 1st year of doing these, that people don't want to watch a video for more than 10-15 minutes. Also these interpretations are my style, if I could play like Oscar I'd be famous, and wouldn't be doing this. Just send me a request and I'll try to work something up.
