Saw Philip a couple months ago here in the states. If you ever get a chance to see him live, do it - he puts so much passion and energy into his live performances - it's incredible. He is a blues master of the highest order and his technical prowess is unmatched. Also, a really genuine dude - very down to earth. Just a great person all around.
Very nice, humble approach to teaching- quite refreshing. It also demonstrates confidence playing unplugged and barely tuned guitar! It's about his sincere intent to impart what he knows- without the typical underlying motivation to show off or sell something! No agenda, just great instruction. Thanks for sharing- enjoyed your other videos too- impressive playing, very soulful blues similar to SRV!
@@johnlemon874 It is easy to see how far ahead Philip is. Compared to anyone alive. I play as well so I have to be honest. Philip is miles ahead in comparison to Gales. Just listen to how beautiful but violently he plays. His vibrato and hybrid picking are alien level. His bending is alien level. I don't believe in saying the words better than as far as guitar. BUT this mf is better than everyone else. He is doing things ive never seen and im a session guitarist who has played with most of my heroes. People say "He's just trying to be Jimi or Stevie" When in all actuality he IS like them. He plays with more feeling than Gales. More attack and ferocity. And has more memorable licks. Philip should have the money and recognition that Mayer, Gales, and Joe B get. If they played together live it would be easy to appreciate all but see that Sayce is king. Just my opinion. Look up his version of who knows or slipaway live. Ridiculously good guitar playing.
Phil, it's great to see you in one of these segments. Good goin'. I'm a big fan, have two of your CD's and just love your energy. I'm an old fart that's pretty experienced on the instrument, but if I were to try and play with your energy in a live situation I'd have a heart attack.. HAHA! God bless and sure hope to see more of you in this kind of format. 👍👍
Haaa, the turnaround at 2.20 is one of the oldest Yodeling vocal phrases ever... but I'm showing my age, but its a classic. Thanks for posting, made me smile. Also Leon Redbone used it note for note in a Yodel tune from the 70's. An oldie but a goodie.
There are some really good lessons here on youtube that will help you with that. You just have to find the ones that help you the most and collect them. . . . . . . . . Some other helpful search terms: what to play over a blues turnaround what to play over each chord in a I,IV,V blues
@@sasquatch7683 Oh gosh thank you, you're incredibly helpful! Back in music school, my teachers taught me soloing over turnarounds too, but I found them so hard. Maybe it's my practice method, maybe it's other things. But thank you! Hope you're doing good!

Literally as humble as you can get for being one of the best blues guitarist in the planet
This man, is one of the best guitarists maybe ever and he speaks as if he’s just a teacher. So humble. This this why he is my favorite
One of the greatest guitarists around today.
This man deserves much more attention in the world of guitar playing. He’s phenomenal.
Just absolutely blowing my mind with his skills and he’s like “and yeah that’s how you do that.”
Philip Sayce is a great guitarist, thank you for having him on. We need to open the world to his brilliance.

One of my favorite modern day players.
He's good!
I admire your mad skills and love your energy! Jeff Healey and SRV left us way too early!👍🎸🇨🇦
Having all his CDs and listening since ages to his playing, I hope to see him play live in germany soon. Go, Phil go!
I'm in the UK David and feel exactly the same.
Who else Loves Phillip on that Resonator? Well done Brother!
Thanks for Sharing! Be Well!
One of the best around & a great person as well... PLAY~ON ... PHILIP !

Great player! One of the best.
Loved the surprise on my feed!
Thanks Philip... I knew Johnny and his brother... John was a humble gentleman much like you
Sayce is a blues beast on electric, he's up there with Eric Gales & co.
Phillip plays circles around Eric gales
@@Bob-Sacamano314 Yeah I agree, Eric is a one trick pony. Sayce is in a different league.

Yes! So happy to see some lessons from him. Such an amazing player.

Dudes played with Jeff Healey? I'm sold!.
Improvising over turnarounds are arguably the hardest part of improv ever!

@@SapphireNgGuitarist I struggle too. That's when I searched a bit on youtube. There's some really helpful lessons on here. Have fun.
great, love your style and the approach to the instrument💪
Fantastic player! Modern blues master!
I like his casual approach. "So, yeah do a little of this, and then a little of that, and you got yourself a turnaround."
Dude is beast!
I hope I can see you in New Orleans in the future. Enjoy your work.
Nice Phillip!
Legend.
Very nice Phil!
very cool to hear about turn arounds
waiting for the lesson!!!
Best music,,,,Best ......
I just wish I understood guitar that well
GO PHIL!
what a decent guy and a great guitar player thank you Philip and I am a big fan of Johnny too!

I liked that first one! Dao dum dao dum sreeeeee dang
I find it hard to believe that he doesn’t know what dominant 7 & #9 chords are...
Nice that he admits it though. Our ears are the best tool we have.
Isn t he confusing the actual turnaround with 5>4 chord variations leading to it?
🤘🏾
Slowww downnnnn
Be even better without dobro steel guitar , tuned down to G....lol
Nobody in the studio offices had a strat with a deville?? Great player
Filmed aboard a ship in a location where we couldn't easily plug in an amp at that moment - so we went with the dobro 🙂
What ever that cord is... Blues Fountain...
One man show...no feeling imho
Great now I know how to pronounce his last name. I was like ...SaaaasySasee........sprechenzie ....sassy... whatever sick player....
Great players showing their licks in real time once each time... hardly qualifies as a lesson.
There's full TAB accompanying the video in the issue of the magazine this features in

Not so good teacher, better player
Nothing for newbies.
great player, not so great teacher
Yeah, I was marveling at what he did, thinking the whole time: This is completely impossible to follow. (For me, at least.)
Yes
not areal "How to" lesson...sounds all to hectic. People here wanna learn something - LEARN
Wanaka transcribe what he’s playing by ear, or watch where he is playing on the fretboard to help figure it out...you’ll learn something
Yea what he said, just do what he’s doing....
