Ryan Holiday talks about the 5 most essential Stoic leadership qualities. All a leader can do is show up and do our work. And we have to keep showing up, even if we are rebuffed, scorned, or ignored. You can fall to your knees and tear out your hair. Or you can shrug it off, and return to your chief task of discerning what’s inside your control and what isn’t, then focus all your energy on making the right choices in regards to what’s yours to decide. I have a whole section in a notebook dedicated to Notes from Ryan’s videos. Every time he uploads I get my notebook, sit, listen and write. Thanks Ryan!
Love this.
What did you write down this time?
I do the same
That’s Wuts up. Thanks for that great idea. Keep it moving!
Salutations from Romania! Just wanted to let you know that your books and videos are used as inspiration all around the globe. Keep going and cheers!
Salut !
I must take command.
My father died 8 months ago and the siblings responsible for his burial have done nothing about it. His remains are on a bedroom closet shelf. No headstone. No grave to visit. I must step in and take over out of respect for his memory.
This was great! Even in the comments I can see the benefits of discipline and not acting rashly... a teachable moment for sure!👍🏼
Informative and to the point . Leaders are readers! Thanks for inspiring me to pick up all those books on my nightstand
Very informative video about 5 Essential Stoic
I love the way you organize the subtopics for each video. What a time saver!! Keep up the good work Ryan.
Ryan, I love to Learn.😊😊😊😊
I didn't feel any negative reaction when you mentioned Trump or Obama, was just listening to your examples and trying to gain whatever knowledge or insight I could from them. There are good and bad lessons to be learned from any administration. Wasn't until you mentioned people having a negative reaction that my mind went there. I did roll my eyes when you mentioned Belichick though :D
I love the recent focus on leadership topics! And I know that I would certainly love some more.
Thank you, thank you for all that you are and all that you do.
great work my friend
I love the way you organize your topics for each video.
You give me the idea to not give up of life... Stoicism and Minimalism for me is a big combination to apply in dealing with life....thank you
Thanks so much for the video was really interesting and entertaining
With great Ryan, comes great Stoicism
Great lessons Ryan!
Thanks, Ryan 👍
Thank you so much! 🙏❤
Great way to start the day. Thank you.
Currently I have difficulty calming myself for extended periods of time. I do my best learning in listening mode. I do choose books for the purpose of learning though. I choose fiction to relax (if I can) and to observe an author’s writing style. I’ve come to admire brevity: the most illustrated in the fewest words.
This is so helpful, thank you
I love these principles
Thank you
Your awesome Ryan!
Thank you.
Awesome as always
Yes very good advice thank you😁
valuable video, thanks! would like to get more info on that disastrous Intel employee error, any link to that would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!
Striking gold!
Great video !
GREAT SHIT!!!
Nice job.
So many ads :((
minus the personal politics this is pretty good
G r e a t . Thank you.
Hi Ryan just finished reading 3 of your books. How can I reach you to ask you some questions I have on my mind? 8:51 Thanks
I wish that you replied to this. I truly do... I have a (very possible) life altering situation going on as we speak, and Dammit I need you.
Dont rely on man bring it to the lord ask him for help, be humble and believe. There will be your rest and answers.
He is not obligated to answer you on a public comment section. Get a therapist.
I wish you mentor our government authorities(Ethiopia). They need it!!!
Lead from the front. Never make a subordinate do something you wouldn’t do or haven’t done. Take responsibility for every mistake even if it wasn’t your fault. Never sell out the guys under you. Listen to concerns. Practice what you preach. Be friendly but don’t be friends. Put your ego away. Even though you’re the “boss” consider yourself the lowest ranking person. Realize a great leader serves those under him. Show up first and leave last.
Great advice !
the links dont work?
I have produced a video on the EGO is the enemy and why we need to manage the ego and how to manage it before it takes control of our life 😎
Do you know who John Free is? Interesting man.
Please Ryan. I'm begging to you please reach out to me
I read the Seneca story and hate Nero
Wait this isn’t jacksfilms
People in the comment section seem so triggered.
I don't think you have enough books lol
"I was elected to lead, not to read".

Ive never spammed a video before but I N E E D YOU right now. You do not know the situation. I'm literally crying. Please
Quick, concise, valuable insight. Too bad the acoustics detract from the message.
2:00 Undisciplined leaders lmaoo
Military leaders ? Really ? Its fucking cool
Why do you say that President Trump is undisciplined leader?
“Other sort of undisciplined leaders” that didn’t age well!!
Please tell us how Marcus Arelies use to round up Christian families, (men women and children) and feed them to the lions for entertainment for crowds to watch.
Is this another form of Great stoicism?
Because someone was a product of their time period does not mean that some aspects of their life aren't applicable to our lives.
Of course not. Aurelius was like any of us - flawed. This is worsened when the context of the time is distorted.
Think of it - an emperor some 2000 years ago. The fact that we can agree with Aurelius on much at all is commendable, really. Society has changed so much since the days of empire.
That is not, of course, to ignore the systematic persecution of many under the Roman Empire. What I am suggesting is that we learn from all of Aurelius' life, good or bad, and continue to refine stoicism into an increasingly consistent state of virtue. Maybe one day we will get there.
This is neo-intellectual hyperbole attempting to delegitimize ones self growth. People must hate being around you irl lulz.
Is it true?
Give me any proofs, because I’m a Christian who’s interested in Stoicism.
Indeed, as we've seen, there appears to be no evidence whatsoever that Marcus was actually responsible for the persecution of Christians. The weight of evidence, rather, suggests that he was, as Tertullian claims, a “protector” of Christians, and tried to prevent provincial authorities from persecuting them.
Wow..... Good job! that is the first time I've seen you not say something negative about Trump? 🤔 what about your rash views... A few months ago. 🤔 make sure you practice what you preach. 😉
I can imagine part of what draws you to Trump is your mutual love of making up facts.
Obama's a more perfect union speech "catapulted" him to a six million dollar home on Martha's Vineyard...and that's about it!
You missed the point, bird brain. Trump was thousands of times more self-ingratiating and you mention Obama. Gee, I wonder why...
Good information just don't bring current politics to the table, we all know you don't like Trump, I would like to absorb some old knowledge without stepping in current politics nonsense. Thanks for the information but this really demotivates me to keep watching , this is just a suggestion. This is also why I unsubscribed to your daily emails.
Love the snowflakes who want to study Stoicism but have to stop because they get triggered by politics they disagree with
@@RyanHolidayYT I think the one that got triggered was you my friend, not very Stoic on your side calling me a Snowflake. I thought I was very polite on my comment it was just a suggestion, but it's ok this confirms you are not the person I thought you were. Also I don't need your material to study Stoicism, there is plenty in the old writings and lots of other material on the web. You just lost a follower, good luck! ;-)
Jose, you have to respect Ryan's opinion and move on. Keep in mind that Stoicism is rooted in debate and we are here to be better. You got to control your emotions and not let anyone control them for you. For me, Obama was a great communicator and awful leader where as Trump was a great leader and awful communicator. Study on friend and control your emotions.
@@Educatenotindoctrinate hi Jason, I came here to see his videos for Stoic information not to hear about his political views. Checkout my initial message, it was very polite and in my opinion it was a constructive criticism to his channel. Now look at his message and tell me if he was as polite as I was, calling me a snowflake, sorry to say this but this guys is a clown. At least this situation helped know who he really is, he is just making money of a philosophy that has been around for many years, there is nothing new he posts that is not written in the old books. Take my advice, if you really want to learn about Stoicism stop listening to this channel and read the old books, everything is there, there is no need for us to absorb Mr. Holiday's political views, we have enough with CNN. And FYI I'm from Venezuela so I really don't have any opinions on US politics, we have our own problem over there (and they are really big problems compared to the US). Cheers!
@@investradelearn Politics is teaching me how to remain calm and effectively communicate while everyone around me is struggling to do so. Guess what, staying calm pisses people off... it's a win. Sticks and stones brother... Remember Epictetus was a slave who's master twisted his foot in a steel boot while Epictetus repeated "you are going to break it". Somethings are in your power like your emotions and somethings are not like Ryan's opinion. I agree that the snowflake comment was salty just as your comment on his video. How long and how much effort goes into the preperation of making a video? You just shit on his work so of course he will react. It is ok to have teeth in discourse after all this is where these great Philosophers started. Maybe Ryan's style isnt for you but could you get passed that to absorb the message? It is ok to bring old material to light, it is ok to earn a living doing so. Brother, regardless... you need to control your emotions and you both failed. Personalities and politics aside, did you learn anything? Sorry for the current state of Venezuela as I can clearly see politricks is a touchy topic but can you do better with how you reacted? Peace Brother, enjoy your journey.
Discipline is overrated, discipline is the opposite of the second law of thermodynamics, ‘great’ leaders don’t have exceptional discipline, they just have exceptional drive, which does not necessarily mean they are great, and you sir, are biased, you don’t get to say who is ‘great’ and who is not, there is no such thing as absolute great or bad in this universe, everything is subjective.
You cannot live in this world without adopting ethics and judging what's good and bad according to them. You won't be right or wrong in the absolute, but will act according to your ethics. A completely relativist worldview can only render you powerless and ultimately will make you a instrument of suffering for yourself or other ppl with absolute certainty.
@@davlmt and there are many sets of ethics, just like half of the population supported trump, saying Obama is a great leader and trump is not is like saying half of the population adopted the wrong set of ethics. Completely biased. And btw I don’t support either of them.
“Everything is subjective” - but there’s a Second Law of thermodynamics?
@@bonamiVISION you probably don’t even know what the second law of thermodynamics is, go read more, you weak being.
@@lidasdigest Lida you seem more of a weak insecure being .
If you can bag on Trump. Other people can bag on Obama. Neither is above the court of inquiry.
Trump a leader? You lost me right there, horrible reference
Your political persuasions are showing. Pathetic.
Dude you lost all your credibility…
...in your eyes. Only ever in your eyes.
So Trump is Nero and Obama is wise - time to close this video.
Careful when talking about Trump.... that’s your opinion
