What I like about Ryan is that he didn't make this channel to sell his books unlike those motivation book writers because he really believes in what he's preaching. He has truly modeled Marcus and embodied his philosophy; making these free motivational videos for the common good. The more people practice stoicism, the more he fills fulfilled. Ofcourse anyone who's got more interested will automatically be encouraged to purchase his works. There is no need for advertisement because Ryan and his Daily Stoic is sincere and is inundated with candor.
Have been in the Stoic mind set for 1.5 years. I wish I could inject 20+ experience into me. My mind is clearer, stronger, and my brain is better prepared than it’s ever been. Big props to Donald Robertson whose book I’ve listened to at least 5Xs
Raymond Tenda yes, but I listened to the audio. It was fantastic and really helped me during the lock down. Also Victor Frankl Man’s Search for the Meaning of Life’ was instrumental in giving me the helpful tools to strengthen my character. Good luck.

This one really resonates with me, not only for its message of love but for the obvious study and work and love that went into the text. Bravo Mr Holiday!

Courage, Justice, Temperance and Wisdom, golden words to live by. Really thinking what kind of a man Marcus Aurelius must be, lead a truly exemplary life inspiring people till today.

I find the hardest part is to hear the lower note and the higher note separately. But it does seem to be improving. I usually find one note easier to hear than the other.
Ryan - I am such a big fan. I always have a problem with learning from Marcus Aurelius because his son, Commodus failed the empire so terribly when he took the throne. Isn't that a reflection of some shortcoming of Marcus himself?
How so many of us long for so-called leaders, in this day, to actually be leaders like Marcus. His example from 2,000 years ago makes America's current leadership appear as the barbarians that Rome had to constantly fight off. I feel pity for America and her choice of a 21st century Nero, instead of leaning into the lessons of the past and requiring much more than what we're getting.
You're no Stoic, you have no temperance or wisdom. Just the fact you try to compare current leadership to Nero says it all. You also show no courage to even see the other side. Stop with the negative halo effect on people you don't understand. Besides you can't control what he does. All you can do is vote and then do your thing. You're complaint is pointless and waste energy. Work on yourself before throwing stones.
@@edsoriano619 What makes you so certain he has no temperance or wisdom? Much of the video does actually make the point that today's leaders lack Stoic virtues, and would benefit from learning from better men, women and others. As for Nero, his reputation owes more to later historians with an axe to grind and to Hollywood, than it does to history.
Heya, love the vid! I was wondering if you or anyone has any ideas for essay questions regarding stoicism? I’m doing IB Latin and really want to research stoicism and translate/analyse the original quotes - however, for the course I need to make my own essay question... any suggestions or tips?
I think he was a great man and leader because he was chosen. Dictators around the world have their heir prepped and ready for the job and most are insane and drunk with power. MA was selected just like politicians in America. Our country is great because our leaders are elected. Today it’s all screwed up but I think that’s one of the main reasons MA was so great.
I thought about setting up an AI helper that can guide children To stoicism and adults who suffers from PTSD like myself and who struggles to be good like Marcus Aurelius. I served the military for20 year as a first responder. I have seen what happened to our troops and their families.
His legacy was his son. It's why I can't take Marcus Aurelius seriously. Hadrian successfully chose the two next heirs, Aurelian came at a time of peril and saved the empire, Constantine changed the world, Aurelius brought upon Rome death and ruin with his own arrogance in believing he had raised the perfect emperor..
Marcus Aurelius diligently followed good stoic practices. But why didn't stoicism do any good for his son Commodus? Marcus Aurelius chose Commodus to be the next emperor. Didn't he notice Commodus was not a good person? Marcus Aurelius did many things right. But it seems something went horribly wrong with Commodus. Stoicism in child raising didn't seem to have a good result on Commodus.
HostileLemons He’s racist, and the fact that he hasn’t publicly atoned for his ways speaks volumes. You’re in denial if you think otherwise. Or racist as well. What is wrong with racism? Well, to start, it’s fundamentally against most if not all religions. God bless you all.

Agree. In one of he’s videos he’s says that he doesn’t even read new books. Only old proven books😮
Ryan is my favorite modern writer. He's simple and clear and humble.
I don't think humbleness is a trait I'd assign to him, but fantastic writer, absolutely.
Someone said being a great leader is like being a gardener. You must choose the best plants and then provide them with everything they need to excel.
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader."
--John Quincy Adams
I wish that our leaders, all around the world, could learn about stoicism and could put it in practice. The world would be a better place for sure.
I'm telling you if leaders all around the world try to mimick Jesus christ the king,
They will make this world the best world you can ever imagine.
