It’s the truth I’m after, and the truth never harmed anyone. What harms us is to persist in self-deceit and ignorance.” ― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, VI, 21
Resolving cognitive dissonance is very painfull potentially. The willingness to change one's own mind is a very powerful psychological tool...and it prevents a lot of unneccessary mental anguish. Pain becomes courage. Someone admitting they are wrong is a painful process. Yet it is also courageous. The enlightenment that accompanies new knowledge is in and of itself...a courageous act.

Five years ago I started on my "quest" To build a home myself for my wife and I after renting our entire lives. I turn 65 next month. Much easier said than done! We bought an acre and a half of "raw" land 750 miles away from where we live. I remember one trip early on. I was driving by myself to go work on the property. I pulled over into a rest stop and I was full of emotion (To you men out there this means I was crying) If there had been a way to turn around I probably would have done it. About to get Stillness Is The Key from the library- been on the reserved list for ages! Can’t wait 🥳 This video is sooo good.
thanks Ryan. Great message and reminder.
Great video - thank you for sharing! I appreciate how you make Stoicism relevant to our times, and also don't shy away from how the Stoics have always engaged politically, yet authentically. That balance between self-work and kind, informed service to the cosmopolis is what drew me to Stoicism in the first place.
Thank you Ryan. Really needed this right now. Appreciate you.
Excellent episode. Thank you.
Your books and videos are so inspiring Ryan. Thank you for sharing all your inner wisdom and the wisdom you collect for all of us to benefit from!!!
This was very interesting to watch for a long time i channeled both nihilism and stoicism and learning about both has had interesting impacts

Amazing video as usual. I have been reading Meditation & The Discourses and selected writings the last 2 months and it is a gift from life.

I never understood how videos like this still get dislikes.
