It may seem like a silly question but please explain it like I'm 5, I'm not good with computer stuff at all but I'm desperately trying to retrieve my last memories of my late Gran
Not at all, my accent is pretty thick. So once you have your phone connected to your hub, then your devices to the hub, which would be your keyboard, mouse. hdmi cable, if your using a pc, then connect the hdmi to the usb hdmi adapter then the pc. Once thats done, you download and install obs studio, from that add a new source, select video device, and it should be on that list

Thank you for the video. I just came from ur old video where you backed up the p30. I checked the specification for p30 lite and I dont think they do hdmi to usb C. From ur experience with the p30 series. Would usbc to hdmi be work with all of them(p30 lite,p30,p30 pro)
Checking online it seems mixed if it works on that model of phone, the p30 and pro were fine for me, i would buy the adapter from amazon and give it a try, its under £10 just now for one, worst case it dosent work and you can return it, best case you get your data back
Omg thank you so much it worked!! Only issue is my mouse cursor was going crazy so i thought I'd change my phone setting to desktop mode and then the screen went black, I don't know how to reverse that now 😭 any ideas?
Sorry for the trouble but I really can't figure this out. When the phone is connected to a display, either directly to a monitor or PC through video capture and OBS, it simply does not show the screen/display of the phone. I've double checked everything with another phone, to see if the components themselves are faulty but the keyboard and mouse seems work just fine. To my knowledge, and as you've said in response to another comment, a P30 should support a HDMI connection and with what I've checked, so does the s22u. Yet, they both fail to show a display when plugged into a display or pc(through video capture and OBS). If you don't mind, can you share your thoughts? I do wonder if the components themselves are sensitive. As I've opted to buy an alternative Hub under the brand of Goojodoq. Could it be that some hubs does not support Hdmi connection despite having the Hdmi port? My setup is as is: 1) Phone > USB hub > Hdmi to Hdmi > Display. Or 2) Phone > USB hub > Hdmi to Hdmi > Video Capture > PC > OBS.
Your setup sounds correct, and those 2 phones are hdmi out compatible, so I'm thinking it's either the hub you have or possibly the display settings , easier on OBS, so what I would do is screw about with different refresh rates to see if it comes up, maybe try a device you know hdmi works with to confirm
Thank you! Finally some video that actually makes sense. I was suggested to get USBC to HDMI adapter but no detailed info on how this is even gonna work in practically like how am I supposed to navigate with the phone since the screen is completely toasted and it has became unresponsive. Well you won't. :)) I won't get any signal to my monitor at all so I guess it's dead.
It might be dead, maybe not, few things to try first, google your phone model, confirm that it 100 percent does hdmi video out from usb c. If it does cool 1 thing confirmed. Is the phone dead, harder to check but what i like to do is get a family member or a friend, fire there sim card into the phone and hold the power button, wait a few mins to ensure that its booted (difficult if no screen obioulsy), and i call the phone, if it vibrates or rings etc, the phone is probably working. Ok so i know the phone supports video out and that its working so why am i not getting video out. First thing to check is your dongle, confirm video out works from a different device with it, a phone, a tablet, a laptop, whatever you have , borrow a friends or a work machine if you need to, if thats working then its possible its the output device, try it on different tvs or monitors, it could be the cable, try a different hdmi cable, it could be the resolution, if your trying it on a 4k tv for example, try changing the resolution on that hdmi port to 1080 if you can, it could also be refresh rate, try chaning that as well to something lower to see if you have any luck. If after all that does not work, then yeah, id say you probably wont be able to get your data off it with this method
i have used a similar technique when i broke my computer screen I used a hdmi converter to usb to a tv screen but then was able to use the same computer's keyboard ; but i'm gonna try this & hope for the best
So my Huawei has an unresponsive screen, but I can see it. If I plug this in, do you think i could I just plug a USB mouse into it and use that to unlock the pattern on my screen? Then just plug a USB cable into one of the ports and the other end into a laptop then transfer the files from there?
So again you would still need this to function like it does in the video before you could plug it into a laptop and transfer files. You still need to see whats happening on the screen to select the right options, if you rewatch this section ruclips.net/video/wiCxJ0dAStg/видео.html , what i would recommend is to do it wirelessly, it will be slower but the hub methos isnt designed to take another usb cable for output like a laptop connection i dont imagine. You could get something like airdroid on it, or even bluetooth files if your laptop has bluetooth
Really confused at the minute. I have a broken screen on my Samsung A22. I purchased the USB C to HDMI AV adaptor. Mine just has a C connection one end and HDMI on the other. I already have a USB splitter with 4 ports. I plugged the c end into the phone and one hdmi end into the dongle then the other into the tv, the tv screen is completely black. I then plugged one end of hdmi into my laptop windows 10. Also unresponsive. Am i doing this correctly? Do i need the obs software or that other thing you showed for it to show on the laptop? Any help appreciated.

I am searching for a solution to access the data from my android phone .. whose screen is turned on but its all grey ..and the touch does not work ... so I cannot unlock the screen ...I have usb c hub and a surface pro ... how should I proceed ? do I need anything else?
If you use the hub, you will be using a keyboard and mouse to unlock the device not the phone itself. In order to get an output you need a compatible device, a tv, a monitor etc. If you use a surface pro, you would need a hdmi usb capture card, very cheap, and then OBS studio to capture it as an input.

What is the need for HDMI capture device? Why can't we just directly put HDMI cable other end to our laptop HDMI port instead to USB port by capture device?
i think the most important part not explained is showing where the phone plugs into if you're using a laptop to display the screen with the OBS software. Does the USB-C plug into the phone then the hmdi from the computer to the hdmi output on the adapter? i have the video capture hdmi/usb device, the obs software installed. then i plugged the usb-c into the phone but nothing comes up. the phone is powered on with the screen lit up. i'm just not 100% clear on how the devices work together and what needs to be hooked up to what?
I think the video is pretty clear buddy. Whilst I didn't show how to use obs fully, fair enough I'd take that as critasisms but from what it sounds like your phone may not be working with this method. Phone > usb c bub > hdmi out from hub > into hdmi usb capture device > laptop > obs software > new source as video capture with usb device selected > if it works you'll see something on screen. If not, blackness or multicoloured screen. Check your phone model, as mentioned in the video this method won't work with all phones and there's some other factors such as refresh rates and resolutions that can cause unreliability issues with it working
my is a revvlry + it works but screen is crazy it has a usb-c which is good thing I think it has dex not sure. i just need the device and will see if i can get data from my old device happy that my s32+ has usb-c guess is the standard nowadays... im no fan of micro-a type chargers and ports i have bad with those experiences
Nope, firstly pixels dont have usb to hdmi out, they prefer the google screen casting options. As for the password remember your only using another display as the phones display, so if you dont know that password then your not getting in weather you can see the screen or not.
So I understand that if I connect keyboard&mouse to this hub, + HDMI to TV and C to my phone, I will be able to unlock/navigate my phone with mouse&keyboard. BUT WHAT IF I have a hub with no side inputs (so it's only usb-C to HDMI), could it be the reason I am not able to navigate the phone? SO I connected the keyboard and mouse directly to the TV, and connected separately the phone and the TV, and I get to the lock-screen but am unable to swipe up to get to the pattern-unlock option. And typing any kind of passcode didn't work, cause I can't get past the black screen with the lock on.
I tried this with a samsung s10 and i got to the gray screen, but i could not unlock it in order to enter the password. Any ideas of what i cand do? do I need to press a specific button on the keyboard?
It says video out on Samsung's site for a dex mode so I would say it should, those are normally usb c to hdmi cables but I would dig around on Reddit see if anyone has done it with a usb c hub, you could be the first !
Would check the specs on that sony device to see if it firstly supports hdmi video out, might be worth checking the usb version for that incase its finicky revisions. Other than that could be the dock you have bought not working on it, or which is more likely the phone could be fully buggered sadly

Hi Mr Steve, I have a Huawei p20 pro, Screen isn't working and black (dropped it) - it is working as I can hear all the messages coming through and phone calls. Bought all the gadgets, downloaded the OBS-studio. But I don't get any share screen at all. Even tried with my friend's Huawei p30 pro and the screen isn't sharing either. I am on a pc - Lenovo. what am I doing wrong o/missing.. Thanks in advance
Can you tell me the setup you have, as the p30 100 percent supports video out, and the p20 should as well. It should go as the following if using a laptop. Phone > Usb c hub > hdmi out to usb hdmi adapter > obs. In obs you add a new video source and your capture devic gets the video in from the Usb c hub thats connected to the phone. The hub might not be working. Hook it up to the phone and tv and see if you get an output.
samsung galaxy S20 FE with unresponsive black screen. Alarm still goes off so it still has function. Plugged into hub and it displays a clock and a lock icon on a grey background. I know that the wireless mouse works to draw a pattern, but I can't see the screen beyond this grey background. I accidentally brought up the "emergency dial" screen to display, but the unlock screen is censored somehow. I have a video capture device and OBS, but haven't figured out how to use them in case it works better. Any insight on the phone issue or OBS? thanks you for the video and I hope you see this
Yep as mentioned in the video i had this with my p30, i literally blindly done stuff on the keyboard, so the second the screen goes black, its in enter mode, where you wont see anything, you enter your pin number and hit enter and it will unlock, if this is a pattern then it should show on screen and you can use the mouse to do it, if its a pin, keyboard and enter. trial and error to get it working. OBS is only if you use the usb hdmi capture, essentially just letting you use the pc as a monitor, works just the same as a tv
unfortunately neither the hub nor the video capture method showed the proper lock screen. I was forced to go to a tech repair store to get a temporary screen and turn off the lock function. currently looking back at your videos to get through the backup process. It seems the newer models of Samsung phones don't show the lock screen at all and if you have a pattern lock and can neither interact with the screen nor see where your connected mouse is, it's next to impossible to unlock. Thank you anyways, I've moved past the problem and am following your advise on the next steps@@mrsteve2441
Checking in to see if you got it working? I have the same phone and get it to the grey screen with the clock, but it doesn't seem like the mouse is doing anything. Do you have to like triple click the wheel or something weird to pull it up? What did you do to pill up the emergency dial screen?
Unfortunately I don't have a wireless keyboard handy, but by pressing the power key multiple times to prompt an emergency call (sim is taken out) and then pulling the top bar down and hitting settings brought the pattern screen right up for me.@@mrsteve2441

My s22 ultra screen broke and is black. Tmobile swears i cant get any data off. Can i use an usb c to thumb drive type into my laptop. My grandma passed away in july and i wasnt able to back up anything before i traded it in for the s24. Any tips??
You can try, the phone could be toast, but without trying it you won't know, as you can't see a screen, if it powers on, then yes this method could work, if it doesn't output it's likely further damage has been done, but for the £10 price of a dongle, I would be taking the chance to get that data back
@mrsteve2441 thankfully I called the tmobile store and they hadn't sent my phone in yet so I was able to use my Spen to work the phone to where I could get the two phones connected to do smart switch. I am thankful for that pen!

I believe you are missing several items by your comment that are mentioned in this video. This method does not mention anything to do with casting, is direct connect to the device then to a monitor for output, if you are connecting to a pc then as mentioned you will need a usb to hdmi capture device as well, and require the use of some software such as OBS. If you can give more details on your setup and what you tried, ill be happy to assist.
I think this doesn't work at all between an android & a mac. I broke the screen of my samsung A52 and am fiddling with both a data transfer cable as well as an hdmi cable and my computer is not recognizing anything. Also downloaded the Vysor app but it's not helping.
I think you are confusing the process. If you wish to use this on any form of laptop , as described in the video you will need a hdmi to usb adapter as well as the USB c hub. HDMI from the hub will not work in the laptop, the laptop device is not an output port, its an input. So your setup would need to be Phone > Hub > Hub to usb to hdmi device > laptop. If your skipping that small step of hdmi to usb adapter then its not going to work. As for vysor, its good software, it wont however work if you dont have usb enabled, or havent on that pc as a trusted system. It just wont connect. Which sounds like whats happening in your case. As a side note checking on the samsung site i cant see usb c video output listed, so id assume the phone does not support this method
@@mrsteve2441 Thanks for your response. I do have a usbc hub with a hdmi port plus the mac adapter I need to connect a hdmi cable to my computer. Your correct the P30 supports usb c video out, if your getting nothing on screen i assume either your dongle is damaged or the phone is more damaged than first expected. I would try the dongle on another family members phone to see if video out works to rule out dongle failure, Failing that repair store, or if your brave could try a screen replace yourslef

@@mrsteve2441 this is what i was looking for. the chain sequence. thanks.
Hope it helped buddy
I'm using a p30 too. Could you give me the keyboard inputs to unlock it? The hub works fine.
update video covers it. Long story short, its random ruclips.net/video/wiCxJ0dAStg/видео.html
my is a revvlry + it works but screen is crazy it has a usb-c which is good thing I think it has dex not sure. i just need the device and will see if i can get data from my old device happy that my s32+ has usb-c guess is the standard nowadays... im no fan of micro-a type chargers and ports i have bad with those experiences
Can i use this on a pixel phone thst i forgot the pin to. I need to back up the phone
Yeah that likely wont wont work. Use the right hub, as long as your phone supports you should be good
Awesome!! But what if you have a pattern unlock rather than a passcode unlock??
mentioned in the video
you can use your mouse to draw the patter code
I can get the phone to connect to the monitor but no mouse and keyboard that I try work.
Sorry buddy, wont work for everyone. Try usb wired, try usb blue tooth, if that dont work then not much more can try
I tried this with a samsung s10 and i got to the gray screen, but i could not unlock it in order to enter the password. Any ideas of what i cand do? do I need to press a specific button on the keyboard?
did you figure it out?
@@davidbollier3859 no, from what I found I had to enable a setting before the screen cracked in order for it to work
Would this work for a Samsung galaxy s9?
It says video out on Samsung's site for a dex mode so I would say it should, those are normally usb c to hdmi cables but I would dig around on Reddit see if anyone has done it with a usb c hub, you could be the first !
@mrsteve2441 So I ordered a USB C hub and it worked.
@@KevinK3vin0 Thats fantastic NEWS !!!, i hope you were able to get everything you needed off it :)
@@mrsteve2441 yeah, my galaxy s9 fell and it's screen became unusable, so I had to transfer everything.
Bro this USB hub does work no work ? Sony Xperia 5 mark 2
Would check the specs on that sony device to see if it firstly supports hdmi video out, might be worth checking the usb version for that incase its finicky revisions. Other than that could be the dock you have bought not working on it, or which is more likely the phone could be fully buggered sadly
hey steve. my samsung A50 screen isnt just working. Although i can receive calls on my phone , i cant receive them since the touch isnt working. And the phone is locked. Ca u pls tell me how i can recover my data ,the process and essentials i would need? thnx in advance
*answer calls i mean
just whats in the video buddy, if phone supports it, usb c hub, hdmi cable to a tv, usb keyboard and mouse to control it all, and your good to go
Greetings: Probably dumb Q sort of related. I obtained hub similar or same as UR's. It is non responsive. No lights or plugged in device recognition. I got it 4 file Txfr purposes using a flash drive. I tried applying external power. It will pass power and charge the host device however still no recognize flash or host. I question it possible defective purchased new. Unfortunately online AmaJunk Chinese crap purchase and no return possible. Past that. Option B - What model is the device U have? FYI- mine also has SD, SIM, 1/8in audio output.
Mine is a ugreen one from amazon. Flash drives should work if your getting video out, and input in (ie keyboard and mouse)
@@mrsteve2441 no function except it will pass power to charge a device.
My video output not working on TV or PC Monitor
Would a USB A to HDMI work to output video?
Unsure, only done it with usb c, adapters are cheap, buy one and.try it, if it don't work you can return it
samsung galaxy S20 FE with unresponsive black screen.
What did you do to pill up the emergency dial screen?
you tried clicking on the keyboard ?, up arrows, enter keys etc ?@@SweetShawn999
Unfortunately I don't have a wireless keyboard handy, but by pressing the power key multiple times to prompt an emergency call (sim is taken out) and then pulling the top bar down and hitting settings brought the pattern screen right up for me.@@mrsteve2441
can i do this with a broken motherboard
Sadly no, if something on that phone is worth that much, you would need professional recovery methods, which are not cheap, nor guaranteed
Hello, sadly even after selecting video capture on obs studio my phone still didn’t show up as I restarted it. :(
What model of phone ?, is it 100 percent got video out ?, on obs are you using the correct hdmi settings (1080 60fps etc)
this only works with display port 1.2 ports on the new model phones
Mobile revisions vary the supported ones are
USB 3.1 Gen 1 (with DP Alt Mode)
USB 3.1 Gen 2 (with DP Alt Mode)
USB 3.2 (with DP Alt Mode)
USB4 (with DP Alt Mode)
Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt 4
Hi. What if the phone is completely not working?
Then this will not work ?
@@mrsteve2441 How? Get the phone fix?

Aww that sucks buddy. cant help with that one sadly
Am I missing something? I hooked up everything and nothing cast to my PC.
I was only a little uncertain whether I need to buy/try this video capture card that you mention in the video. But it sounds like my phone won't support this method anyway?
checking reddit discussions on the A52 and it doesn't sound promising
@@mintandlimes looking online it does not look like it buddy, i mean by all means you could buy them and try it, if it dont work send them back, but im 99 percent sure it wont work. Instead you could do a cheap screen off ali express adn try changing it if the stuff on it is that important, very different video, but as long as you take your time its essentially some glue and a few cables to take it apart, even putting it back together dont need to be perfect when your done, screen will cost you the same as the adapter. there cheap for that model
@@mintandlimes Sadly not
I cant get my mouse or keyboard to work with the dongles that I buy
Maybe not compatible, have you tried them in other devices to ensure they work ?. The keyboard and mouse i use in the video were a cheap set from amazon.
Hi, i try it on my Broken Huawei P30(lcd and glass is broken but i still can hear sounds and can turn off alarm with sensor), and no image on PC Screen. I try hub type-c to hdmi and type-c to type-c on three different monitors, and nothing. P30 support HDMI, i just cant understand why no image, there are some other options or only repair ?(im srry if here is mistakes, english is not my born language)
Would this work on the pixel 6 pro?
Sadly not, google pushed forward with wirleess display casting over the ability to use an adapter like this sadly.
Sad I have pixel 6
What if I have no password and it's a pattern?
Personally haven't tried a pattern but I'd imagine it shows unlike the other options ? , Need to try to find out really
On a Redmi Note 8T and a Redmi Note 11 it doesn't work.
Sadly not , next to no Xaiomi phones have video out
@@mrsteve2441 It would be nice to have posted about it if anyone knew about it since lots of people own Xiaomi phones.
The monitor screen is just black when I connected my phone. It changed from “no cable connected “ to plain black when I connected my phone. What does this mean?
Dunno. Phone could be more damaged then a broken screen.
If I'm using a laptop do i still need a separate keyboard and mouse?
Yes they do not pass through to the phone as explained in the video your laptop is just a substitute screen nothing more
has anyone tried this with iphone yet?
cant comment, videos for android, i dont own apple products to try it
