‘Reduce to the max,’ they said but I am fisherman with a tackle problem, mainly having too much, well too much to carry. Drinks cans on the other hand, kind of fit in your pocket so I thought I would see if I could recycle one and fill it with something more useful than the fizzy stuff.
The hard part is deciding what not to take and what actually matters. It would appear that most of my tackle falls into the first category and only a very small portion into the other.
I have been making these can kits for a couple of years now for those fishing days when I just want to lose myself in that meditation that is fishing on firm piece ground or good rock.
I should be starting my rod building video soon. Thanks for watching and genuinely thanks Squarespace for sponsoring this video, I will also be working on website over the next week to create a base for people to visit and find out what is going in my world and also as a place to make the free lure templates and plans more available, rather than having to e-mail me for them.
Thanks

I bring a trash bag, stowaway lure case and a telescopic fishing rod in my backpack to the water and that gives me all the freedom I want plus no one even knows I'm going fishing.I really like your videos and your brilliant ingenuity! The best part about fishing is enjoying it with someone and competing with them to see who catches more.
Your videos are awsome, I absolutly love them! I wish I was as talented as you. Thank you very much for posting. Greetings from Belgium.
thanks for the kind words
I started fishing when I was about 5 years old. I still remember my first reel. A zebco 33 on a tiny pole. I'm 25 now and I still enjoy going fishing with a minimum amount of tackle. I love being by the water and being able to clear my mind.
I would sure like to try make one of those. Very clever idea. I done a similar thing but for course and carp but with a fisherman's freinds can. I think that I seen that in one of your videos. Just Awsome. Can't stop watching your videos over and over. Just so interesting.
Just discovered your channel, had to post to say what a great job you do of editing your videos! Very nicely done sir!
I also gave up lugging gear about, and opted for a tiny bag that straps around my waist.
Contains everything I need, and allows me the freedom you mentioned.
I’ve also tried to take my fishing back to where it all began as a kid.
Very cool!
I can’t wait to make a couple for my grandkids.
Love your videos man. Just Awsome. The best handmade fisherman I know. Love your stuff. Realy skilled as well. Keep it going. 👍
Brilliant..... love the idea..... I'm making a couple for me and the grandkids...
Tardis departure was excellant too.
good idea with can, great video like always, thanks :)
Great video mate.

where i fish the kids don't carry any tackle with them they expect us old gits to supply them with floats, hooks and weights. At one of the local lake i used to carry a little packet with a float and rig to hand out to them on the condition they would agree to fish up the other end of the pond
😂 I only fish lures now. The freedom to have everything I need in a tiny bag makes fishing fun. I cover so much water, and walk miles.
You deserve more hype for your magnificent work honestly
As Always Paul another cracking idea brought to life well done Fella
cheers john, i was going to use a beer can but RUclips has new alcohol rules
Great idea. We used to use old sucrets (throat lozenges) boxes to carry a minimum of gear with us. Altoids boxes work well too! A fun challenge to limit yourself to just a few lures to fish with!
Great fun project mate. I really got into this condensing stuff into a tin once, i had so many tins i forgot what was in them all. What you put in this one i suppose depends on your favourite fishing. I'd start with a float and a few tied hook lengths and some preserved maggots and plastic corn. A drop shot rig might be good. Enjoyed watching thanks.
i have got into the multiple tins thing, just behind my chair i have four altoid tins and Fisherman's friend tin and little idea what is in them, i did make a Dropshot fishing kit in one of them, which i often take trout fishing as a last resort as well as the odd perch trip, cheers
love the gas canister weights brilliant idea.
always well done and full of great tips and techniques
thanks
Great video!
Thank you for this awesome video I have been amazed at your creation and talent. Keep Dreaming
thanks
great video. keep it going
Very nice video!
Okay, it's a four year old video and I'm a tad late to the party here, but cracking idea and superbly executed as always with your 'making' skills. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think I would touch-up the edge with permanent marker to hide the aluminum edges at the cut. It's a great place to carry a lighter, a knife or snips, a few weights and hooks, and lures. Perfect!
Like a lot! For me as I like to travel and do fishing everywhere I am, I need always hooks, floats, lead, swivels and with that I can adjust to the type of bait and water. One can like that will do the job perfectly to go travel 😎👍🍀
it is a amazing what you can catch with just some hooks line and weights, there is always something about to use a s bait
Good stuff👍🏻
great video! (as always)
I also try to use as little tackle as possible, then it is more enjoyable to be at the water and to be able to move around.
Nice subtle nod to the great Laura Kampf at 4.09!
love her videos, big inspiration, i had forgotten about that sticker until looked back over footage when editing, thanks
i made mine out of an old torch .tape up the glass and handle .filled the battery compartment with hooks floats ect and wraped line round handle ,works great
Cool idea! I carry a lot of crap fishing and probably only fish with a 1/4 of it. Only suggestion is you could add a screw on cap fitting and it'd help keep it from spilling out if dropped or carried in something.
one of lads in work suggested that as well, i don not think it would be hard to do when i get a moment, but as yet i have never had a can kit open, i think because the insert is trying to expand so it always makes a nice tight fit, cheers
Sweet work me hearty. I'm thinking items for the can would be some 4/0 hooks and some sort of craw baits and soft worms. a few weights and good to go. maybe one favorite crank bait too. depends on the fish and waters too, might need some local stuff, thank you for the share, good as always. t. thumbs up
Just don’t get it mixed up with your packed lunch much.
mouth full of hooks lol
Love it.
This is such a good idea. Always have a cooler with sodas
Just finished watching. Found the ending quite funny. I still right all my fish down in a book to this day :) good video. Have a nice night
i did for a long while when i was sea fishing in a boat mark down my catches on a photocopied chart, these days its all logged on the fish finder, but it can be a bit depressing if you have an actual record of your catch rather than exaggerated one you remember and tell other people, cheers
Ye. I agree. To be honest as much as i think all this new fishing tech is great. I prefer to stick to old traditional tactics. So much simpler and way more reliable. Thanx for replying to my comments. Its nice to speak to the man him self. Thank you. ;)
chub float, small stick float, mixed shot including ssg (for link), mixed hooks and alittle light line for hooklinks :)
Very impressive little built..I would imagine that one could use something like this for all sorts of different applications alongside of a fishing kit. Great vid, I am glad I found (and subscribed to ) your channel :-)
the only trouble is if you leave them round well meaning people can put them in the bin, thanks
The Handmade Fisherman I can definitely see that happening!
pringles can is spot on for this
I have always been the same with lugging too much stuff, only the other day I took a small sandwich container and took a couple of lures and it was spot on, made my day easier and I didn’t even use them all lol
Good stuff
I have reached the age where wheels may be required for my big tackle box
The Handmade Fisherman haha, great video as always mate. Keep it up.
I know I’m bringing back an old video .. but those coloured circle things the lines are wrapped around that look like they fit perfect in the can line holders did you make these too?? Thanks
Nice video great tip thank you
cheers
You would make a video of sieving sand interesting pal. Great video and great idea......let’s go mackerel fishing!
yes, when?
Ceep doing this you are awesome. May you can do some other containers / thinks for packing tackel. Best wishes from Germany
thanks, i have recently found a source of scrap carbon fibre, still thinking what to do with it a tackle box would be fun, danke
@@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman I'm looking forward to the next video. Maybe you can enclose a blueprint as PDF. Thx
You could also use 16oz soda cans or big beer cans for larger tackle storage.
i bought some big cans for a float fishing kit, or longer baits, great idea
que buena idea
A question to different subjects . What fishing rod guide threads do you used ? I'll appreciated your comment's
Thank you.
cheers Mike
Show!
I always used a tin from altoids or fisherman’s friend cough drops for mine good idea
You mean like the kit he put together earlier? :-)
altoids, or Fishermen's tins just beg to be reused, i just wish sometimes i could get 5" swimbait in one, cheers
Hi there from Europe. I'm 51 and a few years back rediscovered the joys of boyhood fishing in the Tarn Gorge in France. There was a fly rod which had been in the shop for years and I snapped it up wih locally effective flies. I have caught a few Rudd but the main quarry in the Tarn is Barbel. My problem is driving with a collection of garden worms and keeping them fresh between Bavaria where i live and s France. How would you do that?
A couple bullet weights, a couple worm hooks some senkos, some trick worms, a top water frog and I’d be set
worms are one of the most best baits for anything and I often forget about them, thanks
Love clever kits of all sorts. I built your Altoid tin kit from years ago, and am sure I'll do this one too. Just confirming: You are using CA glue aka "super glue" and spraying CA glue accelerant to set it quickly?
yes the glue is ca based with a spray can of kicker, this stuff in the uk is often sold as mitre adhesive, i have used 5min epoxy and one time i used polyurethane adhesive and have never had a problem, cheers
Great idea Paul mate 👍🎣 only thing is, these cans take up good beer space bud. 😂😂 lol , keep up the good work mate. You're content is always awesome pal.👍 tight lines ✌🎣
I wanted to use a beer can but youtube has policies about alcohol appearing in videos, cheers i will a have one off camera
Amazing videos and love this style of video and dont need bells and whistles or trying to plug some overpriced fishing gear..keep it up bud
Best ending ever you can put a lot of tackle in there. It realy is bigger on the inside.
if only i could get it to 88 mile an hour i would head back to November 5, 1955
I'm far too new to lure fishing to reduce the amount of of lures I lug down to the beach. So I think I'd need a 6 pack ;)
wise choice, i did not specify how many can i would carry either
Lol great project tho. Something to make on a rainy day. Maybe out of a special brew can for the best lures ; -)
the only trouble with special brew is the only think you could make after Downing the contents is trip to the kebab shop
I didn't have that problem. Mine was the other 7 cans lol. Nearly 10 years dry now ☺
you are really talented. I love watching you work. But I think you would have been better off using only the PVC pipe without the pop can.
yep i could used just the pipe but the can is just one of those comfortable things I am used to carrying and also a little bit of fun because its something people expect only to be full of pop, thanks
I like this, how did come up with the idea?
I am not sure to be honest
Greetings from Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico the land of mariachi and tequila
Loved the T.A.R.D.I.S ending...
when i was editing it, it just suddenly kind of looked like a tardis so found the sound effect, i am not sure how many people will get the joke though, thanks
hey that can would be perfect to put my soda in
i think beer maybe another choice to investigate
Your voice reminds me John Peel .
i think he spent some time in Liverpool, at school
I do take all my gear down to the water and end up using 20% of it. I should trim it down to something I can carry more easily.
but then you have to spend hours deciding what not to take the night before, i have been there many time brother
I am sure a lot of people will have better uses than “tackle” for this
yes . someone did suggest i could fill it with fizzy liquids lol
sorry mack, the production quality is very good, but the music with the WoobWoob electronic sound in the back is the worst.
John Lennon lives, and he loves his dubstep and fishing
Pepsi Max, good vintage.
i haven't got the body for diet coke breaks, cheers
Pass the Boof
4:05 looks like a grilled cheese
i left my lunch lying round again
Wanna be your neighbor man 😉
Oh yes you talking one time
omg I just wasted 4 min of my life here
🤯
there is no need to thank me
