I love how Harriet enunciates. The only other woman who sang this clearly was Karen Carpenter. Can’t help but wonder if RC has a song or two that he and Karen never got around to recording. Here’s the perfect artist to record it.

Do you ever perform in the USA?
I have to be honest. If I hadn’t heard Abba’s version, I would probably like this a great deal. I love your voice, and some of your other covers (I’m Not In Love and Every Breath You Take to name just 2) I rate better than the originals. But this time you’re up against, for me, the best female vocalist ever, and this is definitely second best! Sorry!! Looking forward to more new songs though...
Yeah? Your comment really intrigued me . It got me to go watch the original video. How classic 80s it was. And, I appreciate your point, the emotion in Agnetha’s voice (and captured on her face) is poignant to say the least. But isn’t that exactly what a great cover should do? Hell, I don’t consider myself a huge ABBA fan - too poppy for us rockers, punksters, folkies, psychedelics….
Kudos to Harriet’s cover and your comment to make me reconsider my closed mind of 35 years ago.
Not that it needs to be a competition, but we have this instinctive, built in reaction of comparing. It’s just part of our DNA 🧬, literally.
The original version always has the advantage, because usually that’s the first version we’ve heard.
In this case, and I’ve just discovered Harriet last week, ABBA’s version is my favorite ABBA song. As the other commenter wrote, Agneta’s intonations, and her body language, really made the song.
Plus, if I remember correctly, she was just in the process of separating from Bjorn, which gave an added poignancy to her performance. It wasn’t “just” acting.
Harriet gives this song a certain wistfulness, as if the break has already been somewhat ‘digested’. The sadness is still present, but it’s not that painful anymore.
At least, that’s how I’m hearing this 🙂

Just got the recent CD. It was terrible. Just aweful. Would never have ordered it. The RUclips videos were very misleading. The voice was great, but the CD was terrible. Don't buy!!!
