Since I Left You is such a celebration. It feels like a raucous backyard party, pushing through sunset and late into an evening lit only by fairy lights and torches. You should look up the video for Frontier Psychiatrist, it manages to be just as chaotic as the track.
Oh wow! "Frontier Psychiatrist" will always exist somewhere in a dark, weird corner of my brain, but I forgot how much I used to love & listen to this album in full. At the turn of the century, I was at university and falling hard into techno / EDM while a close friend was delving deep in "college / indie" groups and hip hop. This album was one of many bridges between our individual musical affinities, and it's one of those items that kept us close (and maybe brave?) enough to constantly share new music & artists that were outside our typical groove without fear or expectation. Side note: he's the guy that introduced me to MF DOOM, and to this day I doubt I go more than a couple weeks without listening to something of his. *fist bump* Found you thanks to the OK Computer listen (I may be a tech/dance-head in my adulthood, yet OKC is my fav album of all time), but after a few other vids I'm now a fan of your content and desire to widen horizons. Keep on rockin' and vibin', dude!
Such an awesome album. MF DOOM is amazing I have to agree there ! Thanks you for checking out the channel, One of my biggest hopes from this channel was for other people to wider their horizons like me and give new albums they had never heard of a go with me! So the fact that you are giving these new albums a go is awesome! Really appreciate the kind words, lets keep finding some new rad music
I remember listening to this back in 2021 amist the pandemic. I then continiued to listen to it all year everywhere I went. In my most stressful moments I listened to the album since it made me appreciate music a whole lot more than I used to. I rememebr listening to this while getting my visa, going to the hospital, renew my passport, go to class, etc. Probably my top second favorite album of all time.
You gotta listen to the dj album they did after this. It sounds like a night out at the club with street sounds and people talking and the door opening making the music from inside clear etc. it’s really good. And harder.
@@jekabsstirna8746 Doubt it. It’s called Gimix. There’s a version on RUclips but it’s hacked by copyright. It’s one long 45 min party mix. Bob Dylan to Old Dirty Bastard. They also have about 20 other mixtapes/dj sets. The BBC radio one is good too. Also recommend their little EP’s. Run DNA and Rap Fever are great little songs on their little 5 track EP’s (El Producto and Undersea Community). But if you want mainstream artist doing a killer dj album , The Prodigy- Sessions From The Dirtchamber Vol 1. Matter of fact, I’m gonna go listen to that again right now.
Love this!! Since I Left You is soooo influential and an incredible piece of work. I think this album really changed the way so many people (including myself) think about music and also sampling as an art form. In particular i’m thinking about Jamie XX who was heaps inspired by this album, have you heard his album In Colour? it’s incredible. Love ya work Jack ✌🏻
Hell yeah Ziggy, glad you enjoyed the video man. Very keen to check out Jamie XX actually on my list to listen to! Always appreciate your support Ziggy, one of the best people I know!
This is one of those albums that epitomises that word eclectic, really stuck with me just how well put together it is. Real feel-good music. They did a superb DJ set in Japan 20 years ago that's well worth checking out- "The Avalanches Summer Sonic'02 DJset Live"
Nice! Loved your view on the album, you should really do their sophomore 'Wildflower', you're just gonna love it, one of the best things of 2016 (and it was a pretty good fu**ing year in music
Ooh I’ll second the LCD Soundsystem rec - I think you might like their album Sound of Silver. And it might be worth pairing that with some Talking Heads, they often get lumped together. Remain In Light is a classic I highly recommend.
Genuinely one of the most outstanding albums ever made, and probably in my top 3 plunderphonic albums of all time, next to Endtroducing by DJ Shadow and Donuts by J Dilla
'Since I Left You' alone makes this album a masterpiece.
Agreed!

Gotta check out that vid, could imagine it being pretty wild haha
Masterpiece of an album! One of the best records of the 2000s.
Such an unreal record!

One of the most successful debuts ever. Etoh is my favourite track on this.
There are 900 legal samples in this and maybe one or two ;-) illegal ones.

That' sounds awesome, I would love to check that out
Where can i find that DJ Album? Is it on Spotify?

If I can throw some recs: Portishead's 'Dummy' and Underworld's 'Dubnobasswithmyheadman.' Both landmark 90s electronic albums.
Awesome! Thank you for the recommendations Sam

I recommend you Sufjan Stevens, LCD Soundsystem, Death Grips, Sweet Trip’s best albums if you have time check them out!
Ooooh sounds good, thanks for the recommendations :)

Totally agree !
React to the bloody Loveless man, is one of the best albums ever made
Yes to this one!!! A timeless, revolutionary, mindblowing, yet unmatched album.
Added to the list! Thank you for the recommendation
This was huge when it came out in Australia.
Over 900 samples!! Incredible
A very underestimated album and definitely ground breaking.
This album existed before many others.
