  • I demonstrate how to perform a one sample-test in SPSS using two different examples. The one sample t-test is appropriate for testing hypotheses about the difference between a sample mean and a population "mean" (or "mu") when the population standard deviation (sigma) is not known.

Quick question? If Ha was to test that the mean was greater than 100, wouldn't the p-value generated by Spss then be divided by two since the program doesnt account for single tailed tests?

    Hello,
First, Thanks a lot for this great video. Second, is the Welch-Satterthwait test is the same thing as this video is talking about?
Also, I have unequal size of groups (e.g. 700 males vs 200 females) + the data is not normally distributed; which of these test is the best to use please (1- Henseler’s MGA Test, 2- Parametric Test, 3- Welch-Satterthwait Test).
    Many thanks,

If you have equal variances, but seriously non-normal data, then you could consider a non-parametric test such Mann-Whitney, or you could consider doing a regular t-test with the p value estimated via bootstrapping. If you have unequal variances and unequal sample sizes, but not very non-normal data, do Welch's t-test. Check out the video I made on whether the t-test/Anova really assume normal distributions. You'll be surprised.

I have one nominal variable (Gender) and the ordinal variable perceived satisfaction from a questionnaire. I'm supposed to test whether the gender makes a difference. So from what I understand I have one sample but two measurements (gender and perceived satisfaction) which test should I use if i want to know wether the gender influences the satisfaction?
