Thank you so much for taking me on this amazing journey, such a warm series of fun laughter and tear - ing hair out. I feel a little sad that this journey is over but maybe I can come along on some of your next projects. Good luck to you and enjoy the fruit of your labour.
Wow, memories pop up .. I wrote the assembly code for the Atari (to the CMI) when a huge studio needed it in Stockholm back in the 80s .. So simple and yet so much fun :)
Oi from Norway, Chris! I found one of your episodes while watching some Syntaur Synth Wizards episode, and decided to jump back to episode 1. What a journey! I've watched the whole thing in 3 days. 3 years of work condensed down to 3 days, quite mad. I sincerely hope you will keep doing projects and make lots of videos about them. Your maniac laugh, all the blunders, the whole deal. It was an amazing series. And you met my childhood hero, Jean-Michel Jarre too! I was 10 years old when the Houston/Lyon concerts came out on VHS and Cassette, I've been hooked on synthesizers ever since. The size of those voice cards, man what a piece of engineering the Fairlight CMI was. The Fairlight was always this mystical beast to me, the sound of JMJ's Zoolook album, and Miami Vice. I've learned so much more about how it operates now, thank you :)
wow ! a lovely comment and by the sounds of things we’ve had some similar experiences with JMJ, Zoolook and the Houston concert. I aim to make more content soon. thank you for watching and coming along for the ride :)
Yesterday my cell phone, while in my pocket, randomly brought up directions to Syntaur. (which was actually less than twenty miles away) So I checked their YT channel and, new Fairlight episode on the way? Yes!
What a journey Chris! Thank you for taking us along with you, it's been a bumpy ride, but your enthusiasm and warmth has really shone through. Not only have you a working CMI now, but an amazing insight to it's working, its development and the incredible people and stories behind it. Oh, and a bunch of good friends to boot. The party in Aus lifted the project to a whole new level too, bringing it to a piece of genuine music industry historical importance. It couldn't have been more timely, with the sad death of Joe Hammer, a very special moment to see the Fairlight gang enjoying their company. Would love to see and hear more, but realise it's a time consuming excercise to put these things out, it's all been appreciated!
Thank you so much for your comment.. It really means a lot to me. and with that in mind, yes there will be more :) indeed there miiiiight be one more episode …but there’s definetly more projects happening :) Thank you again
Fabulous stuff mate, thanks for sharing, especially the party and the people with their stories. I never knew about the Porsche door-closing bass drum thing, wow!
@@CrisBlyth Yeah absolutely amazing and why the work you are doing here is so important. The human connections and stories are everything and nobody would have known about this had you not dug so deeply!
Great to see this project still going, it's been a long journey, both figuratively and literally. lol Also good to see the trip to the homeland of Fairlight. I remember watching the Jean-Michel Jarre concert on VHS, around 2014, with my parents. Little did we know that Joe Hammer was there all along. RIP, Joe. Thanks for sharing this story, Cris.
Wonderful episode. Someday I'll binge the whole series again. One of the best things I've seen on youtube. And that bit with the keyboard in the car reminded me so much of when I picked up my ESQ-1 in a Boxster.
Brian, thank you for this comment, it's been an incredible journey and reading comments like yours really warmed my heart... With the ESQ-1, it sounds like you have a good story to tell there ! - thank you again,.
Great video Cris , looks like you had a great time meeting all the folks involved who are still around to tell the tale , its a huge achievement Bravo to your dedication and good humour even during setbacks :} thanks for this entertaining journey , i wish you good luck in all future endeavours all the best from Old England.
awwww, bless ya.. it's been incredible fun and has opened so many doors for me. This project might not be compleeeeetely finished.. so, ya never know, there might be one more episode :)
aww.. that is amazing to hear... and well.. it's never really done... That keyboard isn't going to fix itself.. and I need to make music on it now... and then there's so many more projects.. :)
Great video, especially with all the old Fairlight guys ! I've watched this series from the very beginning and it's been a fantastic project - BUT, I feel that "calling it done" now, is a bit premature.... After all this, surely we need to see the final, final finished Fairlight, all fully/finally assembled, components together, and working.... The "Brochure Shot" ?!? Please ;-)
Missed you, Chris. What a journey. Jarre Houston / Lyon absolutely made my day back then. Love the John Farnham bit. Seen him live in Cologne opening for Bryan Adams and ZZ Top. Both were far better than ZZ Top.
This utterly bugged me at how long this took… I’m OKAY with it though ❤ Loved watching this journey chap, all the details, & the relationships with legends you created along the way! I’d love to see more on the next projects & definitely the Synthflex trip (what’s JJ Abraham’s doing at a geeky synth show!?) All in all, well done man, well done 🙂
hehehe.. it bugged ME how long this took.. and how many mistakes I made, but I'm glad you liked it.. and persevered !... and yeah, Synthplex was AMAZING.. oh and there was this movie called 'Tetris' .. that's yet another story. :)

Even with a few loose ends remaining, this all has still been one heck of a ride.
Cris, please post all of your other footage, we would love to see it... PS. Did you hear the Ontario Government is closing OUR Ontario Science Centre... Where both of our Fairlight journeys began back in the early 80s!
As an Australian that lives in Sydney, I've always been fascinated and proud of the Fairlight story, it was such a great technological innovation of its time by some Australians having so much influence in the world of music. It has been great following your journey with this CMI build. @@CrisBlyth I'm not dissing the vintage Porsche.... that's an awesome car, but when you're dealing with vintage synths, that's precious cargo....need a truck or van.
One of your alleged employee, who may be a service technician for your company, boasted on a FB page that he had numerous vintage synths when he was 17, including a Memorymoog, and even a tattoo when he was 12 (which is weird), in a very off-putting way.
