Oh my, this has to be one of the two most beautiful personal homes you've ever shown! The graceful elegance, symmetry and restraint in colour, as well as the lovely gardens truly sets it apart. I'm happy that it's being sold furnished, because whoever decorated it has an impeccable eye for colour and shape, so everything is in harmony with the building. No awful, modernised kitchen; no ghastly, overstuffed, too-bright sofas, or beds from the wrong time period... Just perfect. ❤
You said it all when you said no Gastly modernized kitchen because after you've seen some of the homes out there that have that you see why they're so Gastly. This one has a newer ice box which is understandable but there's such a thing as antique ice boxes where they have like six doors! Yes, somewhere along the line I picked up ice box instead of refrigerator lol!
More than once I shouted in my head "Kevin stop the camera, Laine, leave the camera on that door, or this light fixture or that staircase a bit longer" haha and "where does that door lead, or oooo that cute little hidden door there?" So many wonderful things to see in these grand homes! Too much good stuff!
Liane, this has to be in the top 10 of houses you’ve shown - you can see in every detail- every choice of furnishings the care and passion that the owner has put into every detail. It’s gorgeous!
This has to be the most amazing home I've ever seen. My favorite, the kitchen, I've never saw an historic home with such a spectacular kitchen, functional yet so charming.
Loved that piano music!! I have never seen those bay windows shutters..lovely. Oh My what a beauty! A glorious kitchen!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This home could be a President' home...SO GRAND!
Oh my! What a dream home it is! Just lovely. You look so tiny in the doorways. And you look beautiful too by the way. I love how you love these precious old homes. It's tragic that so many were lost. There just aren't craftsmen like the ones who built this beauty around anymore and you can sure see it in the cheap lookalike homes being built today. Thank you for the tour dear Lady. God bless you and yours and your endeavors. I know y'all are always busy. ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I wouldn't change one single thing in that home. It's absolutely beautiful the way it is. Everything, is just impeccable. This is a dream home for sure. I hope whomever buys this home treats it with admiration and care. 💜🙏
Glad you mentioned the Reconstruction period, the devastation of the Boll Weevil, and the Great Depression. With the South bearing the burden of its war fought mostly on its territory, the entire South bore that burden for well over 100 years. The impact of the pest on the cotton crops and the dramatic change in how agriculture changed from slave labor to poor sharecroppers in addition to events such as the Great War, the Spanish flu, the flooding of the Mississippi River, the Great Depression...the South nearly crumbled under all these things. And many grand homes like this went under. It's quite amazing to see such a grand beauty. Thank you for sharing.
I’m thinking, the older I get and seeing how corrupt the media is, that we may not know what really happened as the south probably didn’t get to tell their full side of the story- or at least the story is weighted towards the ‘winners’ who wrote it in the history books instead of explaining the complexity that took place during that whole debacle- people had allegiance to their own state , leaders in their state etc. it wasn’t just the issues at hand.
Lady I love for showing me these historic homes and all the antique furniture 🪑 and original wood work throughout this building and all the chandeliers and it’s just amazing awesome I love every single house you show they make me cry happy tears because somebody loves our American heritage so much they restore to their original design thank you 🙏 again I love queen Victorian houses and I love the building architecture inthe colonial style aspect as well keep showing these beautiful historic homes it brings me tears of joy to see them and all their antique furniture in them as well thank you 🙏👏👍👼😇🗽💯🇺🇸✝️❤️☮️✡️😭
Hello. I love your videos. However, I worked as a glass artist for many years, and I wanted to let you know that the “frosted glass” that you are showing is actually “glue chipped glass”. Its name comes from the process used to make it-a special hide glue is spread over the sheet of glass. As the glue cools and dries, it contracts and literally chips the glass to cause the pattern. Please keep these glorious videos coming!
I can't help but be torn between the beauty and tragedy of this plantation home.. the human suffering that it took to build and maintain this amazing structure is staggering to comprehend
Exactly. Glorious words to decribe a plantation that was certainly originaly housing the suffuring of people who contibuted to maintain it. Zero mention of them. That part of its history...
Hands down this house takes the prize! It feels so right at every turn. Wow! While it is a large house, it is not overwhelming at all. Instead, it has impecable flow, is very beautifully decorated and screams peaceful, safe abode throughout. The verandas, landscaped gardens and pool area are the epitome of beauty, relaxation and serenity. What a true gem! Laine, I love and appreciate how you always advise on the differentiations of various architectural periods and details in each property that you show, along with their history. Kevin's videography style is always amazing in capturing the reality, history and beauty of these properties. Thank you!
As a Louisiana native, I definitely see and feel exactly what you are talking about with the unique fusions of styles in this house. Louisiana is definitely known for our fusion of architectural styles in a specific way that is unique to our state. The house has definitely been beautifully restored, and I appreciate the attention to detail trying to keep it as close to historically accurate as possible. Since it is a former plantation, I’d love to see whoever buys it turn it into something similar to what Whitney Plantation has done so that it is both respectful to the history of the former enslaved people who worked this plantation, but also allowed the public to get a better understanding of this house, and all that it has gone through over the years. Thank you for the tour, and for sharing some of its historical facts!
@@syrusonassis6785no, they didn’t. Your deep into blame aren’t you? In fact why don’t you contact slave owners across the world? Why is it that only the US is supposed to be respectful? Maybe get reparations from the Dutch who designed ships that could stack slaves in the bowels of the ship?
I can imagine that front room lit with candles, windows open to the night, with elegantly dressed men and women dancing reels down the center. The layout is so interesting! Thank you for pointing out the special features. I agree that the kitchen is wonderful...I usually cringe at something, but this was perfect. I love that the 'parquet' floor was painted on wood. Also exciting is the furniture! It's rare (especially here in CA) to see so many Antebellum pieces instead of the ornate High Victorian. The understated style and harmony of the colors just sings. I too hope the right person will steward this lovely home into the future. This one is a winner!

This place brought tears to my eyes! How beautiful it is! Thanks so much for bringing us inside. I could never in a million years afford a place like this so I'm not even going to look to see how much they want for it! LOL
Beautiful , I would have a bed &breakfast for movie stars or vacation weekly or monthly home for whoever wants some relaxation ! ! it would be like a hotel ! Love it
This home literally leaves me breathless! I was thinking how much I would want most all of the decorations and furniture-I can’t believe someone would collect furnishings like that only to leave behind, but maybe they’re moving to a completely different architectural style. I wondered about the location of this home, and when you said Banks was in control there, I remembered my g-g-g-grandfather was fighting in that location with an Arkansas regiment. Whoever purchases this home will have a treasure that hopefully will still be here nearly 200 years from now.
I bet the owner shudders at the thought of what might go into it if they took the furniture and left decorating it up to the new owner. It shows a deep love for the house.
seeing those mirrors in the front parlors hanging like that gives me anxiety. i couldn't live with that, i'd be too afraid they'd fall. even though i'm sure they're anchored very securely. but, omg, that kitchen! i love it! 💛
What a gorgeous place, and beautiful video! Thank you for showing this home, the story and hopefully the property will find a new owner soon. It is literally a dream! ♥ ♥ ♥
I love this home it’s beautiful without being over done. Love the yellow paint it is like sunshine all over. We visited a good many homes in our younger years. I think this home would be my favorite to see. Hope the new owner doesn’t change anything.
Who in world would say that Laine and Kevin aren’t brilliant? I know that Laine is the one who talks a bunch but I am positive that Kevin has just as much knowledge and the two of them are a true team! They are wonderful and knowledgeable and work dang hard 😅
Wow!! I can just see the balls that were thrown in the front parlor….dancing a waltz….ad the dining room featuring a large sit down dinner in the 1860’s…just spectacular….
Do you know how long the restoration of this mansion took? It is so amazingly beautiful. That kitchen is amazing! As we all know, the original kitchens were usually in a separate structure away from the house, with maybe a breezeway running between the two to keep the heat and smoke out of the house, and to keep it from catching the house on fire. In the 1800s, there still may have been a fireplace in the original kitchen, but more likely wood stoves.
I really enjoyed the older part of the house that was added on with its own stair case! And that kitchen is to me how an old period kitchen should be just refreshing to see that, although not original to the house, it wasnt all modernized - it would have been nice to see that carried over to the rest of the bouse's modernized areas ( upstairs bathrooms & the hallway kitchenette type area ), but still an immaculate & beautiful home that was obviously lovingly restored & cared for
Lane and Kevin, thank for showing all of the really great examples of historic architecture. Lane you really do have the knack of bringing out the best in all of these houses. I am sure they (the houses!) appreciate your love and interesting them.
What a beautiful historic home! Great for a large or extended family, or for someone who loves to entertain on a grand scale! The kitchen is amazing...and it's wonderful that t The seller is including the furnishings with this home. I'm guessing it will be sold to an old money socialite.
This is a beautiful and amazing home. I love the grand scale and gorgeous moldings. I find it a little unusual that the main door is set to one side, like that of the former Belle Grove in White Castle which no longer stands. Henry Howard built Belle Grove as well.
That front door, alone, is such a beautiful piece! I've never seen wooden door panels round and oval like that! It's super interesting. The gardens, that adorable little balcony, the whole house just makes my architectural heart sing! Until you (Kevin) showed the zoom in on that ceiling mural in the main stair hall, I thought that the cherubs and ribbons were snakes or Eastern dragons, and I was a little disappointed to see that it wasn't haha (Especially since I know there was a period of time when Asian décor became a hot commodity.) The frosted glass in the bay window looked just like lace. And that KITCHEN?! Yes, PLEASE!
It’s all about the beautiful staircases for me. Could the front door have been two doors. That is what we see a lot of in St. Louis. I. Noticed the mirror over the mantel is at quite an angle. Beautiful, beautiful home.
I can imagine myself wandering through that great home in the evenings saying goodnight to the ghosts, and then maybe a midnight stroll through the gardens if sleep is slow to come. The kitchen absolutely demands some days of baking bread and making pies. I would love to be the one to see this beautiful grande dame into the future. But, I am old and poor so I must content myself with dreams. Although, if I should win the lotto I might take a stab at it.
Speaking of which, go back and look at the photo of the home in the 1970's (approx 3:21) in it's pre-restoration condition. Without seeing the actual photo, it's impossible for me to know if if was added in later, but I see a woman woman in a white cap and an apron on the front stairs and a young boy (who looks to be about 10 years old) on the top of the stairs by the column on the left. I also see another woman wearing a white cap looking out one of the windows on the right side of the second floor. Interestingly enough you can see though the dress of the woman on the stairs.
Please, please, please take a trip up north and do a home tour of a Victorian home in my hometown of Saratoga Springs, NY. In particular a home on North Broadway please 😄.
There is a dynamism to this home and property (both back and front). Initial exterior shots had me very excited. There's foundational wit and intelligence to the handling of the kitchen (great floor, and some marvelous pieces). One can add even greater vibrancy and fluidity within the space combining some of the better, more exciting period pieces of furniture already there, with other marvelous, high quality pieces from almost any other period. The key would be consistency of intelligence, texture - a sharp and sensitive vision, as well - a substantial budget, and ability to buy the best.. -Place is presently, vibrantly beautiful, COULD BE absolute electric poetry.
After all that work to make that look so fantastic inside and outside I can't imagine selling it. And 2.9 mil is a steal even if it is in the middle of nowhere Louisiana. It would make a wonderful bed and breakfast! Not that that would pay for it by any means but oh so much fun!
Absolutely stunning. Even though it is large this is what homes should be made of . Solid wood not press board. And attention to detail work,. Our homes nowadays are junk. Beautiful home.
Although you're not the realtor, it is nice as done in videos past, when you share the asking price for the property. No matter, you did a steller presentation of this home. Thank you.
Thank you for the history lesson on the slave quarters and your wealth of knowledge! Beautiful property, he put a ton of meticulous work into it! The property taxes on a $3,000,000 only $1,400 that’s a steal! Does the south have Edwardian homes? We own one from 1909 we are restoring in the mid-west.
8:08 That mirror above the fireplace makes me nervous, the house is absolutely beautiful. The scale is stunning. I’m glad for historical purposes it’s survived. That kitchen ♥️
@@tristazerbe8119 it hangs that way because it reflects the light back into the room from the candlesticks and the chandeliers. Yes it is very nerve-wracking but it is done on purpose.
Beautiful. (About 20 miles north of Dallas, Tx there was an antebellum in my family. I would have made it and kept it beautiful to this day but in 1968 teenagers burnt it down. Devastating!).
And in here is the dining room. Oh wow, I love the cabinets they remind me of what should be in a Butler's pantry and look- candy jars. Yes, yes and this was the servant's stairway that led up to the bedrooms. Oh wow it says have some and there's gift bags! Ok, but cmon. I'm coming! Mmf mmf crunch crunch.
I've been watching your videos for a while now and have to say they are terrific! Your ease with technical language and historical style makes them SO EASY to watch. I don't think I've disagreed with you once, and so find myself learning. But sometimes I don't understand. For example, I see the octagonal columns on the porch you referred to as Doric. I've seen others kinda like them referred to the same by others... but doesn't that band a few inches down from the capital make them Tuscan? Help me here please. And by the way you are SO RIGHT about that kitchen: in most ways it looks like a tarted up original. I was surprised it wasn't. Those owners were brilliant, original, and artistically conscientious: it's a knockout! Thank you for all your hard, and inspired, work. I'm really appreciating it!
Thank you for your thoughtful comment. That’s a complex question to answer because we are referring to the 3 orders of architecture. While it has changed over the years, it is only Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian now. When Sebastian Serlio first made note of them in 1537 they were Tuscan, Doric, Ionic, Corinthian and Composite. Now, Tuscan and Composite are not included . The Orders are the rules for scale and proportion, not necessarily the “style” of the item in question.

It’s all about the beautiful staircases for me. Could the front door have been two doors. That is what we see a lot of in St. Louis. I. Noticed the mirror over the mantel is at quite an angle. Beautiful, beautiful home.
This is a magnificent house and furnishings. Enjoyed.
What a remarkable home. Superb.
Excellent videography, Kevin!
I’m absolutely in love with this property and that kitchen is my dream. If only I could afford this beautiful home. I would be a B&B owner for sure
It's beautiful!! Thank you for showing.
Absolutely stunning. I so enjoyed the tour!
Here, Here! I Love The Electric Poetry…
After all that work to make that look so fantastic inside and outside I can't imagine selling it. And 2.9 mil is a steal even if it is in the middle of nowhere Louisiana. It would make a wonderful bed and breakfast! Not that that would pay for it by any means but oh so much fun!
Definitely a steal!..I will have to show this to my SIL.
What a beautiful home! I would buy it for the kitchen alone!
Absolutely stunning. Even though it is large this is what homes should be made of . Solid wood not press board. And attention to detail work,. Our homes nowadays are junk. Beautiful home.
Absolutely gorgeous, thank you for sharing!
Although you're not the realtor, it is nice as done in videos past, when you share the asking price for the property. No matter, you did a steller presentation of this home. Thank you.
You can find all the info on the home in the Zillow listing that is posted in the description
Omg 😳 I love this house such a gem ❤️
My dream home!!
Same here. I want a place like that to retire at.
Wow wow wow that is so awesome! Great job. 💗💗💗
As nice as this house is, I was more impressed with your knowledge & history of the home!
Thank you Kelly!!!! What a gracious compliment
8:08 That mirror above the fireplace makes me nervous, the house is absolutely beautiful. The scale is stunning. I’m glad for historical purposes it’s survived. That kitchen ♥️
So glad I’m not the only one! Maybe Laine can explain why they are like that. Yikes. 🫣
I know there is a reason is hangs that way what is it Laine? This home is glorious🎉 ❤❤❤❤
@@tristazerbe8119 it hangs that way because it reflects the light back into the room from the candlesticks and the chandeliers. Yes it is very nerve-wracking but it is done on purpose.
That open staircase makes me nervous
Beautiful. (About 20 miles north of Dallas, Tx there was an antebellum in my family. I would have made it and kept it beautiful to this day but in 1968 teenagers burnt it down. Devastating!).
Oh I hate hearing that- what a shame
@@silvergirl7810 Thank you.
wonderful presentation, so authentic expect ghosts reflected in the original glass.
An absolute masterpiece.
This was beautiful! It's nice to dream but no way just 2 people could live there! Plus....👻👻😬😂
