Now that would have been a fun history lesson in school, complete with a waffle party. Electricity did not become reliable where I live till 1937 when the farmers formed a Rural Electric Co-Op. The waffle iron comes out every holiday breakfast in my house, makes it so special. As always thanks so much!!
Thank you, Scott! When I was growing up in the 1950's - 60's, my aunt made waffles and link sausage dinner for the family every Saturday night. I never imagined that she'd been inspired by the 1920's & 30's. This also reminds me of the 1980's when our friends would have fondue parties and guests would bring their fondue pots with varied recipes.
My grandma did too! Four teenagers n a younger boy cousin plus my aunt and another uncle . Hungry people with big appetite's. Sometimes seconds . My uncle rewired the waffle maker and it's still going !
Waffle Parties! I am a retired nutritional/pharmaceutical sales rep. My customers were in the pediatrics arena. I would do short education seminars for hospitals, usually with a catered lunch. One year not too long ago, the company sent each rep a waffle maker to make waffles for the nursing staff in their break room. We had fruit, chocolate chips, whipped cream, syrup, honey, etc. They were a big hit and now I am wondering if it was an idea of an older executive who remembered his grandmother having them!! What a great idea for a modern day brunch!
Oh no. Nurses were the best eaters! (And the doctors who snuck in) The nutritional formulas were for sick/premie babies who couldn’t metabolize human milk or regular formula.
It is such a joy to watch your videos & learn. Linda & I look forward to everyone, & you always get a smile or giggle from us! Thanks for teaching & entertaining us.❤
Scott, I so enjoy listening to you and seeing your finds. My Grandmother was born late in 1800's and Mother in 1916. So much of what you show and talk about reminds me of them and what their lives might have been like. I was born in the 50's. I appreciate the research, knowledge and interest you have of things of the past. You put your videos together so well and always make us feel included and talked with not to. Thanks again and have a wonderful day.
Hi Patty! My parents and I were born the same as you! I agree about Scott’s channel! I always wondered if I was a whoops baby.🤣 Unfortunately my parents both passed in their mid fifties so I am really curious about their early life and it helps to hear from Scott about that time period.
There is something so fun about Easter stuff. Vintage Easter decorations and colors! I always liked it... That woman.. "Too Eastery" Her house is probably gray, gray and gray. Black jellybeans are the best ones! Btw, I had no idea there was a waffle craze that happened back in the day. But now I do! Thanks for the history lesson.
Love waffles... It was our family Sunday dinner during the winter with a vegetable soup when I was a child. I am making waffle with half milk, and half craft beer - they are lighter and crispy. I like the bunny, really nice. Easter items was a good idea...
Very cute finds! The Parade as fun! I always enjoy your fun “inserts “. Gee, it’s nice to see items younger than me deemed “vintage “. You are awesome with the “Chickory Chick” song.
The city I lived in years ago had a huge Labor Day parade each year and I remember the Mummers marched. They were delightful! Love your Easter finds! PS Love black jelly beans!
Had to laugh when I saw the price on your 1929 magazine. Those modular kitchen cabinets are still being sold, but now with drawers that close silently and more accessible options. Lofton matte finish is delightfully appealing. Have seen resellers not purchase an item that was homemade or gifted to some friend or family member. What a loss! What difference is there when a picture of someone they've never met is purchased! Remember when people thought hand-me-downs were for the poor and unfortunate! My, we have changed with regifting, thrifting, and retrofitting objects. Am so glad that you are finding, refurbishing, and reselling items. Always keep in mind that though an item may not appeal to you, that there is someone out there for which an item may have special meaning. Really appreciate your thoughtful presentation of a missing parasol, a repair of a foot or a small chip. Be safe.
I was having a lovely afternoon listening to 50s music on my PBS station when your show came on and made my afternoon complete. I even had a really good cup of coffee.🤗
I can't tell you how much I enjoy stepping into the past watching your videos. By the way, I am one of those black jellybean lovers😊. I wish I had lived during some of those times (actually, at my age I had lived during some😉), but with the modern conveniences of some things. I still keep oil lamps and sometimes would hope the electric would go out so I had a legitimate reason to use them. Now I have a generator so I just use them without a legitimate reason to do so😁. Thank you for the stories, the old music and clips, and the warm fire. Coupled with your pleasant personality, it is pure pleasure.
Hi Scott - in the sixties my mom would sometimes make waffles at the table for dinner for those evenings when she didn’t want to cook. The waffle fad was over by then, but maybe that was some kind of holdover from the 20’s? I remember the iron was pretty old and the waffles always stuck to it. Also, chicken and waffle houses were big too. That’s the kind of restaurant Mildred Pierce opened and made a killing with so she could outfit her spoiled brat of a daughter Vita. Thanks for the video!
Love the bunny planter! With the Lady and the missing parasol, why not make it easy on yourself and instead of constructing a parasol, make a nice miniature bouquet to hold, in a similar type of flower as is in the basket. To tie it in, you could add a few in to the basket. Easier than making a parasol......
Hi Scott! Loved your video. Especially the article about waffle making in the old days. I think we should bring making waffles back at the dinner table. I never tire of your stories and all your finds. Brings me back to the good old days and simpler times. Thanks as always. Take care and stay safe. ♥️🇨🇦
My mom loved black jelly beans. Bridgemans even sold licorice ice cream. Not sure if they still do but my mom sure loved it way back when. I'll stick with Hershey's kisses.
God love you Scott you are really an old soul! Love the info about the waffle parties - it is like the Fondue parties we had in the seventies. Knowing the words to that old song cracked me up cause I haven’t heard it in that many years ( I won’t say how many lol). We’d certainly have trouble sharing jelly beans cause I too love the black ones😜 Have a wonderful evening and remember to set you clocks ahead tonight, -love to you and the memory of Salem!🥰
That Easter planter! It looks like a 1940s baby crib decal in 3D 😍 What a unique piece that is. Such a good feeling looking at that. A wonderful Saturday video 👍♥️🐩
I love those sweet figurines and cards. And like you I don't mind if they have a tiny chip or two. I also love black licorice. I was so glad you took time out to remake your fire!! It was cold seeing you sitting there.Thank you for a very pleasant time today.
Oh yeah yeah, black are the best!🖤 I just scored one of those lefton 🐥 😉 I have an old rotating cast iron waffle maker that I’ve used to make my Grandsons waffles on our campouts😋
We went to my aunt's house for waffle parties in the 1950s. It was an east way of having a few relatives over for dinner. There was always homemade sausage, bacon and ham from the smokehouse along with the waffles.
Love the whole video, so informative. That white rabbit is great and you cracked me up because I display damaged figurines the same way. I also had an all black cat that died 2 years ago named Mr. Peepers, so seeing Salem is a familiar cat face. Wonderful Easter selection!
I eat all the jelly beans and always got my siblings black ones every Easter because no one else wanted them. It was blowing snow flurries here all day in N.E. Georgia and is now 23 degrees. I was hoping for one last snow before summer hits us with that horrid Georgia heat.
Boston’s Simplex Electric Heating Company manufactured the first electric waffle iron in 1906. I remember those 3 AM waffle parties at the Waffle House after the bars closed. Of course, you can’t put those stories in a family publication. LOL.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Loved seeing the adorable vintage Easter figurines (🐣🐤🐥🐇) and learning about the waffle 🥞 parties from the 1929 BH&G magazine. I love listening to you reading articles. The two vintage Easter cards were lovely. Hi from NL 🇨🇦. Have a wonderful weekend, Scott. ✌️
I love stories about waffle parties - I collect Royal Rochester kitchen appliances and their Modernistic set included a batter bowl, ladle, syrup and of course a waffle iron on tray.
Wise solution, Mr. Scot, Sir❗👍😄 The average guest can stay for the main-course, but the dedicated pleasure-seekers can stay for dessert!🥞 😏 When my children were small, we didn't have much money. So we made lots of pancakes🥞 and I clearly remember how stricken😃 they were: "What, boring ingredients like eggs, flour, milk... can become something so tasty?"😋
Also, I have my mom's 1938 waffle iron which still works, with the original cord. My grandma made the best waffles, a yeast recipe. Be well and safe. Blessings!
Black Jelly Beans RULE!!!! I always eat everyone else's Black Jelly Beans! When I was a kid I always rushed to the bathroom to look at my Black teeth and tongue! Now I just sit in my chair and rejoice that I have them!
I bought my mother the May 1929_Better Homes and Gardens because that was when she was born. Saw it last month when I was home and brought back with me to look at. So much fun.
In recent years I've acquired a taste for black jelly beans but now toss out the green ones. Grilled cheese sandwich with Velveeta (the best) on sourdough bread, served with sweet pickles and Better Made potato chips.. made locally in Detroit since 1930 by the Cipriano family. Yep, perfect lunch on a cold day.
Hi Scott. Love all the Easter goodies. The greeting cards are adorable. What a cozy fire. The waffle parties sound so awesome. Thanks so much for sharing with us. Take Care. Stay warm.

So cute the bunnies in a basket with the Easter chick. All of the Easter babies look so pleasant, they're ready to scare off those snowy hours...
Thank you, Scott! When I was growing up in the 1950's - 60's, my aunt made waffles and link sausage dinner for the family every Saturday night. Enjoyed listening to you read the little Easter cards and the magazine article. ❤️ Thank you

Thankfully you didn't come along to point out the "nutritional" evil of 🥞❗😄
Oh no. Nurses were the best eaters! (And the doctors who snuck in) The nutritional formulas were for sick/premie babies who couldn’t metabolize human milk or regular formula.
@@ninasgriccia4652 Lovely. 😃
It is such a joy to watch your videos & learn. Linda & I look forward to everyone, & you always get a smile or giggle from us! Thanks for teaching & entertaining us.❤
You are so welcome and thank YOU both!
I can remember when the backside of bunnies were popular to put on cards.

The "hard-to-find" planter is fab.
Love getting the history and education on items and the setting surrounding them. Thank you, sir, best wishes....S.
Love the Easter critters so much❤️
Loosing my mind over your Easter cuties ceramic planter!
I had a good time with you today and yes I too love the black jellybeans

You know I should have continued reading the article because later on...it gave advice on how to keep waffles from sticking to the irons!

Gosh. I've got that Belmar strawberry. Picked it up for nothing, but thought it was cute.
I have a 1924 stove like the Better Homes pic

Go Black Jellies! Rah!!
Thanks for letting us hang out with you. All my Easter ornaments have little chips. My grandsons spend their Easter playing with them.

My Lefton Bunny has the same broken leg in the back! but cant find it to glue back on!
