make the track a bit wet & more twisty favours the evo, more straights favours the boss. so you'd pick what you want

+Levi Dunn If you tune it the brakes and turbos will heat up faster. The fastest lap will get closer. Every lap after that the Boss will pull away. The two cars are fairly close in price. At least when new. The Boss is worth much more than the EVO now.
+fatboy19831 It's not as easy as throwing an intake and an exhaust but if you get the right pads/rotor setup and leave the stock turbo and change some bits and pieces like the intake, hard piping and better intercooler a good tune and so on and so forth, the Evo will be faster every lap without any heating issues without a doubt.
Elie Kassouf I am not saying it is impossible...I have never ....ever seen an EVO that could last even 5 hot laps. I have seen V6 Camaros run all day. Same for 500 + hp Mustangs. Anything you can do to an EVO you can do MORE reliably with a Mustang. Look at formula drift they have 850 to 1000 hp Mustangs that can go the whole season on one engine. No Japanese car can do that. The big weak spot on the Mustangs is the brakes. Other than that they are very good high hp runners.

All the butthurt and ignorance on here is hilarious. How could anybody who really knows anything about cars be questioning this outcome? Were you not paying attention when Ford stated that their goal for the Boss 302 was to beat the E92 M3 around Laguna Seca? Did you not notice when it actually happened, and all the outrage from the BMW fanboys? This is a serious car. 0-60 in 4.0 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.3 seconds, 0.96G on the skidpad. No disrespect to the Evo, but it was out of it's league here. I'd be interested to see an FQ400 do a lap with a professional driver, and then have the same guy do it with the Boss 302. I bet it would be damn close. The edge might go to the FQ400 there. The days of American pony/muscle cars sucking around corners are over. They have been over for a few years.

guy proulx, 1.4 seconds is a lot of time on the track. It'd be one thing if it was a couple of tenths, but 1.4 seconds is a lot. Face it the boss is faster, way faster. It's faster around the track and the strip. The Evo also has all wheel drive which is a pretty nice advantage on a track, and it still lost.
As an owner of the same model Evo I can swallow the results and be very happy with that. I think some people forget that the Evo is great on all sorts of terrain. It's snowing where I live right now and I can take my car out and have fun with nearly no worries of getting into trouble. The Boss would be useless right now. Of course we all live in different climates, but for me I would hate to have a car sitting around for 6 months for nice weather to come.

Similarly priced? The Boss 302 and Evo X MR are $40,000 cars. The X FQ400 is $80,000. You could literally buy both the X MR and Boss 302 for the same price as the X FQ400.

3 laps, each way under a second for a combined time of 1.54 seconds. The $38,000 evo is like a second and a half behind $42,000 mustang. for $4,000 you can gain way more than a second and half in aftermarket upgrades.

put them on a real course like mosport gp and see what happens, that boss will walk all over that evo. Less powerful and lighter cars have a way bigger advantage on Cayuga. The course can make or brake lap times for certain cars. The Evo is an excellent car with incredible performance, potential and value.
This test is already invalid because there are two different drivers in this... Let's be real here, on a circuit with the same unbiased driver, the Evo would beat the mustang every time.

I traded my 2008 M3 (which is a V8) for a 2012 mustang 5.0 and performance wise theyre almost identical. So all you EVO fan boys who wish you could afford an M3 (and dont lie, you do) do some research or find a 5.0 to test drive. And dont even use that "with a few bolt-ons" excuse cause the same can be said for the mustang.

Oh sorry thats right 50% of the 444hp is 222 and the evo still has about 70hp more then that and 70 hp is alot to get . A and tunner and c.a.i is 30 hp .headers is like 15-20 hp and mufflers like 5 hp so after all that still only at 60 hp

From the moment i saw the mustang gets a powerslide entrance i knew this video was some biased shit for the mustang. they probably warmed up the tyres on the mustang doing power slides then took the evo out on cold brakes tyres and engine seeing how biased this is. Anyways the mustang should be faster look at the huge difference in power, it's just embarrassing the mustang is 1.5 second faster and these guys are proud of it. Not gonna go into modified cars vs stock cars but if the evo had the power the mustang did and the mustang had the power the evo did, the time difference would be HUGE and the mustang cost over 4k more that's alot of money in difference.

They purposely chose the mustang 302 boss because none of the regular mustangs could beat an evo. The mitsubishi evo MR isnt even their top model, the fq400 is. Which could smoke the boss 302. And probably the shelby 500 too. Seeming as the fq400 only lost by seconds to a nissan GTR that had 600 hp.

First of all, losing by "seconds" is an eternity. Second, the evo is lighter than the gtr. Third, gtr has 545hp unless it's a Nismo. Evo is too ugly and too fat for its size.
It looks like they chose the 302 because it's basically the same price. A GT is 1/2 to 1/3 the price of that Evo. How would that comparison make any sense?
The fq400, which was a highly limited model that cost 82 thousand US dollars and wasn't even available in the US. You could buy a Z28, the ultimate track muscle car as of yet, which would not only beat the fq, but would save you money.

Keep in mind it took a 444 hp V8 to just barely beat out Mitsubishi's 4-cylinder turbo. Twice the cylinders, twice the horsepower, but just a second faster on a 1:20 course? That's a stock Evo too. Let's see how this race goes with a properly tuned Evo.
But it took the EVO AWD and DCT to allow it to corner with any semblance of handling ability. If the EVO was just FWD and turned a lap 1.54 seconds slower than the Boss, I'd concede an EVO victory, but each car needs it's advantages to make the most of what it's capable of in stock form.
An AWD Boss 302 would probably run 4+ seconds faster than the stock EVO and a 444hp EVO would do the same to a stock RWD Boss 302, so it's a fair comparison stock vs stock IMO......

The Man with No Name Already compared. The Germans did it at Hockenhiem small track. This Boss Mustang, M3 Track Ed., FQ400, Audi R8, Nissan GTR etc. the Boss was quicker around Hockenhiem the the FQ400. And the M3 Track Edition. I know many Domestic magazines do not like American cars. The Germans do not care were the car is made. In fact the Mustang put sells all M models combined in Germany. Maybe the Ford is not so bad?
I like both of these cars, but I wouldn't say it's exactly a fair comparison. The Boss is basically a high-performance version of the mustang. There are plenty of EVO versions overseas that put out almost as much power as the Boss. The takeaway is: A high-performance Mustang is only slightly faster than a factory delivered Evo.

JDM VR4 we are not comparing European and American cars we are comparing two similar priced cars one is a bare bone v8 pony cars using its suspension work, high revving V8, 6 speed manual, and sticky tires and the other is a light sedan with awd, paddle shifts, 300hp going to all wheels, and quick acceleration with electronic turbo

A second is a huge amount of time on a track. The difference between a Camaro SS 1le and a FERRARI 458 ITALIA on a track (willow springs I believe, it's on motortrend) is UNDER A SECOND.

thats why they upgraded the mustang to a boss 302 instead of the GT because the ford had to have at least some chance of winning.
I really dont get why everyone is so surprised and gloating about the mustang. Ford purposely built the Boss as a track car. It beat a car that is great at everything all around and does what it did in the track in the dirt too. As an all around car i would definitely go with the EVO without a doubt just more of a do anything kind of car.
***** Of course it is. I don't think that people even realize that basically all Muscle cars have the sole purpose of looking cool and being more fun to drive than almost any other car. They honestly were never intended as track cars or family cars, the invention of the pony car changed that a bit and allowed them to be used in those ways (to some extent).

You've got the three you mentioned (ST, STI, and GTI). Then you also have the Golf R, Focus RS, Mini Cooper S JCW edition, Audi A1 Quattro, Fiesta ST, Seat Leon Cupra, RenaultSport Clio and Megane, Citroen DS3, and Peugeot 208....to name a few. Of course, most of those are hot hatches.
Nickolas Little That is assuming he doesn't live in north america. Sadly we don't get most of those cars. We don't get the forcus RS yet, nor any Citroen, or Renault, Peugot, or Seat. Aslo, we just got the golf R this year I believe, we also don't have the audi A1 yet. BUT at least we have all of the MINI models.
juderocks5 Yeah I live in NA too....there's way too many hot hatches/compacts that we don't get. But I'm pretty pumped about the RS coming here. Lol I'm not personally a fan of the MINI but the JCW edition isn't too bad....if you're into that sort of thing
I'm very excited about the rs happening, and it would be even better if they offered it in all wheel drive. I'm not a very big fan of the MINI myself but my girlfriend is and it's a huge step above the last car she drove so i'm fine with it. Personally I drive an EVO 8. My last sports car before this was a modified 2011 mustang GT, but when I drove the EVO I knew it would destroy the mustang anywhere but a drag strip so I just had to have it.
juderocks5 Good news! The RS is AWD, so I'm pretty stoked since my Focus is FWD. Yeah my GF is driving a Gran Prix....she has 0 interest in cars. Man it's a bummer about the EVO, I was always partial to them. Yeah that's the thing, I love Mustangs they're the reason I'm so into cars now but they aren't the best around the track unless you drop money on a 302 or Laguna Seca or hold out for the new Shelby.

Evo's are de tuned from the factory. 9 out of 10 Evo owners ditch the POS exhaust system and move up to a 3" exhaust and a ECU flash tune. Most after the tune will make 350-400 whp depending on the quality of the parts. You can do the same to a Boss 302 but the gains wont be that much. Depending on the track design (i:e more corners less straights) the stage 1 tuned Evo will win by a small margin but in stock form its close. Im not a big fan of Evo's but I like them. Im a subaru guy. But unfortunately the mustang will come and go in a year but the value of Evo's and STi's will stay.

2015 Ford Mustang
In terms of performance, the Mustang GT will still offer the 5.0-liter V8, and the article reads that the 2015 GT with the Performance package will actually be faster on the track than the Boss 302. Some other interesting tidbits about the new Mustang are the standard push-button starter, the availability of adaptive cruise control, an independent rear suspension, a 200-pound weight reduction (that at least somewhat will be afforded by using aluminum front fenders) and a wheelbase that measures the same 107.1 inches as the current design.

Brad Miller first of all the comment is several months old now and second i'm not even a gamer.. however car games nowadays try to make driving as realistic as possible i know this doesn't apply on NFS but in NFS the car specs are realistic for example the Bugatti is the fastest car in the world so it has the highest top speed in the game .. the evo is oneof the best handling cars so it is the most controllable car in the game .

To be fair, Autoguide went to Cayuga. It's a track that notoriously suits smaller, low power cars. Local time attacks have s2ks and miatas winning the events if it gives you an idea of just how tight the circuit is. It's really more of a motorcycle track than a car track. The time difference at a real circuit (say, Mosport) would be much larger.

I love my 2012 5.0! I got it for 25k brand new... But I would prefer the evo all day. Driving in the rain w my stand is no fun. I want AWD. Dual clutch tranny is also better. And the room!! There's more than one way to skin a cat. The Mustang and the Evo take two totally different approaches toward the same goal: going fast. While the Mustang had faster track times in this comparison, I'd totally take the Evo. Its approach to making power is preferable to me. Also, you can make a ton more power very easily/cheaply with an Evo, something that tends to be much more true for turbo cars than N/A ones.
In fact, if you just took the difference in price between the two cars in this comparison (which is $4,305) and dropped it into the Evo to make it the same cost as the Mustang, the Evo would've annihilated that Boss in every way... Seriously...

For me, the truth is that Mustangs feel like boats. I much prefer the high-tech import feel associated with many of the Japanese cars. I, for instance, have a Mazdaspeed 3 and I love its driving dynamics. The proof really is in the pudding, though, and the fact is that Speeds are very competitive in auto-x.

You should probably read up on how a turbocharger works.
Strap a turbo on the boss 302 engine, and it will put down over 600hp. Displacement is not everything. Its how much air you can pump into those cylinders.

the 2015 mustang is in production and models have been released early at auction so it isnt hypothetical. production models of the car are obtainable and they will be at dealerships globally in a month or 2

Pretty fair comparison: A summer RWD car with 444hp, VS 4k$ cheaper 4 season AWD with 291hp.. Of course the mustang may be faster in these conditions, but they just aren't for the same people. With our canada winters, trust me the Evo wins hands down. The evo has a lot more tuning potential for track.
I hope this video makes all you Evo lovers realize how much Mitsubishi is off their game. I probably shouldn't even say off their game because they won't ever be cool (fast) again it's obvious. While American cars have made huge engine advancements, imports such as Subaru and Mitsubishi haven't done a good thing since their first models hit the market in 2003 (the ones we fell in love with so fast).

I love the Evo, but I would have to agree with you on this. Mitsubishi and Subaru seem to be playing it a tad bit safe these past few years and I have to hand it to Ford for the improvements they've made to the Mustang. I would still personally pick an Evo over a Mustang, because I'm biased, but I wouldn't mind letting that V8 roar!

It might surprise you to know that the 5.0 responds very well to bolt-ons too. There are quite a few Mustang GTs and Bosses out there with bolt-ons and a tune making over 440whp.
hartsickdisciple Generally all evos on simple boltons like tb exhaust, intake, intercooler piping, get above 300 whp, like 340-350 whp, but even if you count that extra 100 to the mustang, rear wheel drive would be harder to push around on the track, and the evo is forgiving and easy to drive fast, I mean I feel very safe in my evo, but I don`t really feel safe in a rear wheel drive car going fast in the corner and the rear end breaking scares me.

The Mustang is a collector car, the Lancer is not. The Mustang holds its value well, the Lancer will be worth 1/4 the original cost in 5 years. The Mustang will go 150k+ no problems, the Lancer will have went through several transmissions, head gaskets, etc by then. American muscle wins in every aspect in comparison to low end, cheap Asian automobiles.
