Sadness is as important as joy because it allows you to process and heal from all the bad stuff life throws at your face and THEN feel better and happy. That’s literally what the first movie was about. Joy’s complex counterpart is not Love, it’s anxiety. Anxiety is extremely negative in high doses, but in small doses, it reminds you to work hard to achieve things e.g study for a test, and then, when you achieve something, Joy comes in. I guess maybe Pride could be a possibility for Joy’s counterpart as well. Sadness is all about kindness, understanding and empathy, so I see it more going along with Love. I think the only reason Sadness and Embarrassment kinda go along is because people are embarrassed when they cry in public
