Partial update on case of murdered Swedish women, Marie Lilienberg and Maria Walhén:
Unresolved. The anonymous caller later came forward and helped police locate the man named "Loren". However, there was not enough substantial evidence to convict him for the crimes. "Loren" was later arrested and convicted in other crimes, but has never been charged with the murders.
"Loren" is believed to be Loren Joseph Herzog. He and Wesley Shermantine were dubbed the "Speed Freak Killers." Herzog died of suicide on January 16, 2012, and Shermantine is currently on death row. This duo is suspected of the murders of at least 15 people, including possibly Michaela Garecht.

My theory is that it could be Robert Pickton. He's from Canada, Vancouver specifically. He was a pig farmer, but he also ran successful businesses and had many connections to crime and the criminal underbelly. He was extremely wealthy and could easily travel if he wanted to. He matches the description of thinning red hair (he eventually wore a toupee), and a long pointed nose (people said that he had a rat face), he wasn't tall but average height and skinny. The only two snags in this theory are that Pickton claimed he only ever left Canada once (although he likely lied as he is a serial killer) and Pickton did not enjoy bathing and keeping himself clean. No one would really want to get in a vehicle with him as he lived in a disgusting way.

I was a kid in the 1970s and 80's and you would see sometimes on the road people hitchhiking. Too dangerous. Glad people arent doing it anymore.
Do not hitchhike and never pick up a hitchhiker. The cell phone ,which they did not have back when I was a kid saved countless lives. No more do you have to telephone home from a lonely phone booth at midnight. Not safe to do that. Back then you would risk robbery to yourself or possibly be murdered.

Unfortunately there was a sad case not 10 miles from where I am now where an absolutely stunning girl was making her way back home from a music festival with her boyfriend. A guy had picked them up & they had dropped the boyfriend off first. The girl then disappeared & was only found, I think years later, in someone's back yard. The guy was arrested & charged.

In Sweden you could literally legally stop over and camp overnight on someone else's private property. Sweden had no such compulsion in hitchhiking in the 80-90s because it was one of the safest countries in Europe. Because of this, however, they tended to be clueless on how dangerous life in the US can be if you hitchhike. The segment also plays into the "Blue Swede" character type: the naive Scandinavian going in the Wild West and stupidly dying because of a dumb decision or saying the wrong words. It's there since the Wild West times.

I’ve never understood why adopted kids feel the need so bad to find their “birth parents”. Their adoptive parents literally wanted them more than anything in the world and they HAVE a family. Family is who raises you, not who shitted you out. And majority of the times, they didn’t even want them in the first place, that’s why they gave em up.

You have to understand the feelings of alienation and not belonging or fitting in with the rest of the family- i’m not adopted but always felt adopted due to never feeling like i fit in and belonged to the rest of my family - it gives a person answers to lots of questions and peace a lot of times to find their birth parents or family and enables them to move on with their life - also when you don’t know your birth family medical issues and questions can get complicated and make things harder in older age - you may carry genetic medical conditions and not know it and fail to get treatment- that is a very important reason to know your family history

Worse than the ruin caused by all the criminals’ crimes and the pain and anguish they have caused, is the fact that many if the perpetrators, i would say MOST of them, even when caught, are given way too short of sentences and then set free to go right back to living as they did before, and in cases where persons have been bilked of thousands and thousands if dollars, nothing is ever said about any attempts to hold them responsible for repayment; moreover, they ate certain to go right on to another victim.

Can you point to any cases covered on the show where people were released after serving their sentences and re-offended?

@@rolandofgilead43 I haven't seen a case from this show where they reoffended after serving their time.

@@vintagesaskia1139 that is odd I mean if that is true it is surprising but there are missing episodes and missing segments I think too. I think I think I read 260 cases were solved or was it more than 260? I forget which but either way the reality that none of them have done anything else is doubtful to take a guess they still haven't been caught at it.

@rolandofgilead43 people only get let out on parole if it's really really unlikely that they'll reoffend. Usually that is the case.

Lessons learned from the arrest of Bessie (hawk spit) Bernard:
    1) When searching the apartment, always have more people present than are IN the apartment.
    2) Always station at least one, and preferably TWO policemen outside the apartment door to prevent flight.
    3) If the old fart still gets out, have at least a police car outside the building to cut him off.
    4) Instruct all baby-snatching suspects present to SIT DOWN before you search, and not interfere, or you will arrest them.
    5) When someone physically *attacks* you as you search their purse, it's no time to pull punches, old lady or no. Restrain them immediately.
    6) If all this is too much, simply have the SWAT team raid the baby-snatchers, the way they seemingly get used to serve every other kind of warrant. Let old Bessie "go berzerk" on a half-dozen officers with AR-15s, and see what happens.
There's a time and place for the use of force, and it just may look more like Bessie Bernard than some black kid.
