JYP's comments about Riria's body surprised me. While she could certainly use more energy, I dont think that has to do with her weight. Telling someone they're too fat to be a dancer doesn't give helpful feedback. Tell her she needs more energy, tell her her movements need precision, but leave her weight out of it. She's too young to starve herself in the hopes that it will make her dance better. Edit: it didnt surprise me that JYP thinks dancers should be skinny, I was surprised bc I didnt think Riria was overweight.
Sadly it has normal to starve yourself in the industry. Momo even said she will only eat ice cubes for a week to lose weight. As much as I love how JYP handles his idols. He isn't helping abt this toxic habit
@@iliketobake1146 it's a thing for all performers. I did dance for about 10 years, and at the height of my competitive seasons (we were 11 years old) we were already encouraged to skip meals. Unfortunately, especially for kids, this just makes you more tired and weak and actually hurts your performance in the end. I dont want the next generation of performers to go through this too
I don't think he said riria is fat. The term that he used is weight management which is consist of 2 techniques healthy eating and physical activities. By doing that, person will improve their muscle strength esp core muscle, lose unhealthy fat, become lighter, etc. He also continue with the training that riria must do everyday so she can improve like scale training (singing for 30 minutes, etc), but I think this video don't show the full explaination by JYP..it's cut only until singing for 30 minutes and continued with JYP's personal everyday lifestyle training.
Athletes who are also are very healthy weights are told they weigh too much sometimes and have to lose weight. This is the same thing. Losing weight means gaining more speed/stamina, weight management is not a negative connotation. If she's going to be an entertainer, she's going to sing and dance. She'll need to be in better physical shape, she'll need the stamina to go dancing for hours and to perfect the choreography. JYP gave her sound advice to improve her dancing, in later episodes, we are shown that it actually works, she lost 4kg (8.8lbs) and dances much better.
It doesn't help that most of the girls chosen so far are underweight. It's not a good cycle to put them in. Momo from twice even talked about her bulimia because of the strict weigh ins.

Generally, I don'w really understand his choices. Personally, for me Suzu's dance wasn't good or sexy at all and Riria's dance was nice and not heavy as he mentioned and she is not fat (Ahhh, I forgot asians standards regarding weight :( )

I think alot of people are confusing weight management and fat shaming. Honestly Im a fat girl who danced for 11 years competitively and I know for a fact that you need to atleast have you're fat to muscle ratio in check to dance well. I had trouble doing alot of types of dancing because I couldnt find a way to manage my weight making it harder for my muscles and such to move, I couldnt do many types of positions and motions due to my weight because it actually started to hurt.
Managing your weight heavily relies on gaining muscle in place of fat thus helping your ability to move, you couldnt see much of her body but her dancing was stiff as if she couldnt comfortably move in certain ways which for me personally was also my issue when it came to thicker thighs, I dont think she is fat by any means but I dont think she is carrying enough muscle to allow her to move as freely as she wants.
JYP defended Jihyo in sixteen when a judge said she was too fat multiple times and has spoken about it being an issue in the industry. Dont take what he said as fat shaming take what he said as asking someone to train more to be able to move more freely by gaining muscle. If you've ever been in a dance studio you see so many thicker girls but they are that way because half of what people think is fat is muscle built from weight management which includes your diet (you dont have to starve at all thats ridiculous and helps nothing), how you work to gain muscle, and how you retain a healthy stable weight as you continue to work

I agree with you but the girl wasn’t fat in the slightest. If jyp had told her she should gain muscle instead of body fat, that would’ve been different to saying she’s fat.

@@613muse thats wasnt JYP though that was a choreographer and photographer, it was similar to the lady who told Jihyo she was fat He legit told them NOT to do that because when he was an idol he at one point tried that and it made him sick and has a whole thing regarding keeping every idols mental health in mind along with physical that he started implimenting around the time Twice debuted even though he isnt CEO anymore. And JYP praised Momo foe how well she eats usually because she eats alot and always works hard to stay in shape without starving herself which goes along with the whole weight management thing

Its not a traditional survival show. Notice how they dont use the girls that didnt make it for drama. Its 99% focused on the girls that make it. They dont evil edit for manufactured drama like most survivals do. You are just cheering on the participants.

just wanted to point out that i love how the participants's melanin is showing. it's truly nice to see some skin color in a survival with a Korean/Japanese production since their beauty standards always tend to whitewash idols/trainees skins ♥

I hate how they did Suzu dirty in later episodes when she was basically in the top 5 for everything and we aren't shown any of her clips! Her skills are all-natural as she didn't have any formal training for singing or dancing. She also reminds me of Hani from EXID because of her quirky nature but as soon as she performs a sexy switch turns on.

putting aside the weight comments for riria i think he was more hard on her because she said she'd been a singer/idol before. he was a lot more lenient with the others.
It's so interesting to see the difference between the regular contestants and the JYP trainees. I'm not sure how to express it, but it seems to give you a slight glimpse into the idea that trainees really so get trained in terms of everything. Such as facial expressions, proper greetings and (to some extent) personality...

@@Yussirah_ As someone who takes pride in my weight gain(male btw), and suffered(probably still lmao) from a bad body image from being too skinny, I can see where JYP is coming from. The weight gain I take pride in is muscle and not fat. In the same manner, if she would replace her fat with some more muscle, then her dancing would improve. Remember that muscle is denser than fat so weighing 140lbs with muscle, you would look smaller than someone who is 140lbs on the fatter side. However, girls biologically store more fat than men so to have them at the same standard is unrealistic and dangerous. Tbh who wouldn't like a little fat on a girl, it feels soft ^_^. I honestly wish someone would lay out my mistakes and give me helpful tips like JYP did here unlike my parents who constanly called me a "stick" and told me that no women would want me if I stayed like that. FUCK THEM LOL

yeah jyp has some WEIRD conceptions about weight and dance. it's insane to criticize someone not dancing well and say it's because of their weight (ig maybe unless they have actual mobility issues due to their weight? but that's a very different problem that like obese people have and riria is literally skinny that's completely not applicable here). it's literally completely irrelevant. it's like saying she didn't dance well because she has black hair or because she wasn't wearing eyeliner. it's completely irrelevant.
