  • Sinead McCann reviews the MINI Cooper Works for CarsIreland.ie
The JCW is the quickest and most powerful MINI money can buy, but is it worth the hefty pricetag? And what about those tail lights?

Great review, those tail lights wouldn't be massively popular in West Belfast

Lovely presenter giving an interesting review of the JCW Mini. Blotted her copybook with the odd comment on the rear lights, as being a British built and designed vehicle, the UJ styling is hardly surprising. Two level boot and rear seats having the ability to be lowered means shopping ISN’T a problem BTW. Expensive to buy given, but try one and find out just how many smiles per mile you can achieve personally. ❤

excellent review. Please do more reviews, you have style. I like this car, I had 2 Cooper S and I now have a base. The JCW is amazing but expensive.

Cool car and love your Irish accent. I laughed at the "WHAT ARE THOSE" with the tail lights. I think they are just a fun little touch as Mini is a traditionally British car even if owned by BMW now. Overall great review.

I have one and had it from new in 2014 . Iv had quite a few cars from brand new over the years as my job lets me get them tax free. To be fair they are a very good ride and pretty fun to drive . My biggest concern is bmw and their prices iv had trouble with them and they rip you off extremely ! I took it for a service and they tried telling me one of the sensors on the brakes were broke and that one of the wheel bolts were cross threaded . Luckily I also know a lot about cars and also told them I had never touched the wheels and that it must have been their workshop . After lots of back and forth and them trying to charge me 260 to repair these mystical problems I said just do the service . They gave it me back with the break sensor light on . I took it home and took off the wheel - there was no cross thread and the sensor had been pulled out . There was nothing wrong with it going there and they were simply trying to make a quick quid . Every time you take it in there is always the try to make you spend . Like when I replaced my disks and pads before it’s last service and they tried telling me on the next service it’s best I change my discs and pads. Now out of warranty I do everything I can myself but here comes the next problem - you can not reset any lights on your dash unless they do it . Most cars you can reset the error codes with a small computer that most mechanics use . They do this to tie you in and then try to rape you with false problems and faults . To add to the break pad sensors you will also be notified when your pads are only half worn . But this means they have burned your sensors so now you will need to replace all 4 sensors and pads . You still have thousands and thousands of life left ! Every job they have quoted me for parts and labour has been 3 times more expensive than doing it yourself or even taking it to a local independent mechanic . But for servicing for the fsh you have to take it to mini because the history is stored in the cars computer not on a logbook !! They try to get you at every angle . They have left me feeling very bitter and this is the reason I advise against bmw/ mini . Other than this it has been a cracking little car - I hope this may give some insight to anyone buying one . This has been my own experience though and could I just be a one off - I don’t know 🤷‍♂️ I don’t think so as there’s been a recurring pattern so far

I wouldn't touch one myself, a mini, . . .but that's not anything to do with the back light clusters. They wouldn't bother me at all if I liked the rest of the car . . .it's 2018 after all. Similar money, 46,000, would get me a new Golf R . . . .there is no comparison there for me!!
But if the rear light clusters bothered all the armchair provos enough then I would like those lights on my car!!
Very nicely done review Sinead, as usual, thanks.

As someone from the UK, _not changing the tail-light design_ is a *massive oversight* given the sensitive nature of (relatively) recent events.
    *_Another win for _**_#costcutting_**_ I guess._* 🤦

I hope our friends abroad grow to like the use of our artistically used symmettrical Union Jack flag in the rear lights of all new Minis 😅. I'm half Irish anyway, so I can see the other perspective, especially as the Union flag roof sticker was always available as an option on all Minis anyway - which I've seen on these cars, when I've been abroad. The Mini didn't really need that much of a reminder it was a British icon though.

For me, all those gadgets drive up the price to where I don't want to shell out the cash for stuff I'm not going to use. The appearance, handling and quickness are what's important to me. I could go with a basic mini, but that car is under powered, and mini has eliminated some of the exterior options that I wanted: only 2 stripe colors now, side scuttle in JCW style, wheel caps, side mirror colors, roof designs and colors, and side stripes ... all that is gone on the basic model. And with it, my desire to own this vehicle. What's odd is all those things I mention are not a big deal to make available, they've been available in the past. They were dealer added options, so why not just keep them available? How much trouble is it to send wheel caps to your dealers so they can offer them to the customer? And even if the customer opts for the JCW, he still can't get side stripes. They were available before. Now they are gone. I would not buy a mini without the side stripes AND I want several colors available. For the price of a JCW, I should be able to get whatever side stripes I want. Whoever at Mini made the decision to eliminate side strips should be canned.

The current and second Union Jack dates from 1 January 1801 with the Act of Union 1800, which merged the Kingdom of Ireland and the Kingdom of Great Britain to form the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The new design added a red saltire, the cross of Saint Patrick, for Ireland.....lights are not an issue, designed by germans, built in the uk, sold worldwide, celebrating the mini heritage of originally being an british made car. st. patricks day throughout the uk flys the irish flag, celebrated by many non irish. get over it lol

I think you need to brush up on your history. For example, Have a google of the Black and Tans. They might give you a little insight into why no Irish person in their right mind would want Union Jack tail lights, especially driving around Ireland
