Some things about foxes: They are completely immune to the passive resolve penalty from hostility level (but not the active one from the storm). Although their species housing is annoying to build sometimes, it provides a higher resolve bonus (+4) than other species housing (+3). Two of their favored foods are some of the best in the game because porridge is extremely simple to make and pickles provide +8 resolve instead of +4/+5 You are guaranteed to have any amount of comfort specialization for foxes since rain collectors are a default blueprint. Add all the bonuses together and you get +21 low effort resolve with an immunity to hostility which is pretty damn crazy. I always go for foxes if they are available on embark.
Yeah since making this I have changed my mind a bit on the tiering of the species. I also think they all have some merit and map/play style/ RNG highly effect results. Appreciate the comment I truly love the interaction! Hope you enjoyed the game as much as me!
I'm on P15 at ~100 hours played, but I'd probably go with Human > Harpy > Foxes > Beaver >>> Lizard. I wouldn't want to put any race below B tier except Lizard (D tier definitely). Human identifying farm land is great and they're just generally good and stable. Harpy hearth bonus is so so so good like you said. They're easy to get reputation points from resolve, but sometimes hard to keep their resolve above 0 early on. Foxes are very similar to Harpy for me. I agree with their housing being a problem on some maps, but I like that I can keep them happy early on with geysers or a rain collector. I value their glade speed bonus a lot. Beavers are just worse Humans to me. Good, stable. I don't dislike them, but they feel a little harder to make happy than humans and I'm really dependent on getting a 2star+ plank recipe or else their housing can be a problem. Lizards are bad workers who are demanding and don't have the benefits that Harpies and Foxes have. They need buffs IMO. Building-wise, I think there are a lot of similarities so I'll just point out some ones where I think I value things differently. I value tools a lot higher than you do so any tools building goes up. Carpenter might be my top building in S tier. I value coats a lot lower than you, the recipes take too long. I'd put Clothier in B tier at most since it feels pretty dependent on the setup I have (having harpies mostly). I rank small farm > plantation >= herb garden > greenhouse. Probably S A A B? I have only had greenhouse a couple times, but it performs surprisingly well compared to what I had expected. It's situational because you need drizzle water specifically and it competes with food production rain engines, but it was able to produce a pretty good amount of food for me. Teahouse in C tier is probably because you don't like Foxes? To me that's a solidly high-B-tier building. 2 star porridge keeps my people fed and if I have humans+foxes is a great, great pickup. Similarly Beanery to S tier (3 star porridge), Tea Doctor to B. Tavern is definitely A tier. 3 global resolve is so good. It's only not S because I'd avoid taking it in early years. Monastery is definitely S tier. 100 hostility reduction is insane. I'd first pick monastery if there's not a 2star+ building materials choice. I'd probably drop many lizard buildings down 1 tier. Butcher to A, Grill/Smokehouse to B. I try to avoid having lizards so obviously I don't take their buildings as often. Thanks for sharing your tier list.
No problem, I am glad you enjoyed it. Even if we have a few disagreements. You have some solid arguments; I am really not a tool fan. I feel the overall investment tends to be just too high for me. But it may be a play style thing as well. Anyways appreciate the comments and feedback I love seeing what people have to say about some of my favorite games! Also, since this I have grown to like the beanery more myself :).
S - Foxes, A- Harpy, B- Human, C- Lizard, D- Beaver. Almost complete opposite for me with all due respect foxes are op, always go for water and greenhouses. Something like Fox, Harpy and Human build i just cant lose. At P13 at the moment. I like lizard for hearth when i want that extra resolve to get a rep point here and there otherwise harpy in the hearth. Beavers are just too much of a 1 trick pony for me and they solve a problem that most of the time isnt a problem anyway. I like making oil rather from grain etc. I feel like supplier is just straight up op always take it, harpies love it.
My favorite thing about this game, is I get so many comments with so many different takes on species/buildings/etc, depending on the video of course. It's just awesome to see, we are all getting a new race soon I believe. I forgot their timeline...but they did announce it. I will say since making this I like foxes more and harpies.
I think Lizards are most of the time a detriment. I'd rather have 2 races than lizards x) P20, >400h played, I'd say Foxes > Harpies =/= Humans > Beavers >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lizards
Nice, I am around 250 hours...I tend to play variety as my channel suggests so I jump around A lot when I can. Mrbigglesworth made a solid comment on how to manage foxes better, I will have to give it a try. I do like their bonuses I just tend to have a hard time with their resolve in particular. Thanks for your input, I may have rated lizards to highly, I will have to re-evaluate.
They can be a pain but you can always toss them in the blight post to make them happy and their houses are not too hard to make. Get a building that makes food chances are they will be happy in it idk. I think beavers are worse. But i agree for the most part with you.
