It is not a matter of knowing the law. You had the power to declare it, and you decided you knew better. Oh gee, my fruit 🥭 is not the fruit you are asking about 🙄
Don't travel with drugs. I mean, I've been known to smoke a joint or two on occasion. But I don't carry things like that on my person even if I am just going for a quick trip to the supermarket.
Cop? Wrong. And we all no doubt know why you have red red eyes, but show us your medical degree to prove that this is his reason. If he in fact has them!
You may feel sorry for them but the risk of contamination to our bee colonies would be devastating! A fine is the only way for them to remember not to bring the prohibited item here!
Funny how the old man has a bulging money belt but says he doesn't have the money to pay a fine. He was really trying to get out of spending his money. Hope the tour guide gets his money back from him after they leave the airport because the old guy should be embarrassed.
That joint thing reminds me of something that happened to me recently. Someone hacked my credit card. The company put a freeze on it. The thieves tried to use it at a dispensary. I wondered if the Feds would come after me.
dura lex sed lex- 'the law may be harsh, but it is the law'. It doesn't matter if it's just a joint, if the law says it's punishable to bring into the country, there are no exceptions. Sorry, but I hate sarcasm like this. When you break the law, you break it.

Maybe the plant material had bugs that could devastate our agricultural industry. Its not only about drugs, although they are illegal in just about every country in the world.
Back in 1985, I was returning to the US from a vacation in Europe. Among the stuff I brought back was an amount of Sachet that I had purchased from a sidewalk vendor near Notre Dame. I didn't know if there would be a problem bringing it into the country, so I declared it on my customs declaration form (If in doubt, declare it!). The officer asked to see it and called over another officer to check it too. I thought for sure that they would confiscate it, but they passed me on through. I wonder now, however, if they shouldn't have confiscated it as it consists of herbs, potpourri, or aromatic ingredients. Seeing these videos with the amount of organic material that they confiscate started me wondering. I gave the Sachet to my mother to use in her dresser drawers to give the contents a fragrance.
@@popeye82 The definitions of 'Sachet' that I looked up were along the line of 'a small perfumed bag used to scent clothes'. I bought a container with multiple bags in it. Thus, 'an amount of Sachet'. I don't remember if it was in a canister or a box, but it was a number of bags.
@@gedstrom I see the confusion. It's an englishism from the French word. You're right in that it's a little bag. Better to say un sachet de potpourri defining what's it's in. Definitely understand the confusion, especially if bought in France

The ban on honey seems a bit extreme...especially something that's been processed and thoroughly sealed. I can understand raw honey, which could have something in it, but Kraft almost certainly cooks it, in addition to thoroughly filtering it. I just can't think of any danger from that package of honey.
He had a bulging money belt. It is the traveler who is responsible to know what can't be brought into the country. One time when I was going to the US from Canada I forgot I had some grapes with me. I showed it to the customs people waved me through. I had 6 grapes.
Had 2 friends who were driving to Canada. Didn't bring any drugs, but Canada border patrol found an old roach (last little bit of a smoked joint) in the ashtray. Didn't arrest them, but they were both banned from Canada for 21 years.
He seems like an innocent old man. But the law is the law. I never travel abroad with food anyway. I mean, mangos are available everywhere. NZ$200 is a heavy price to pay trying to save a few bucks.
Travelling from Sweden to Denmark I declared "no food", while I honestly forgot I was carrying packaged smoked salmon. The officer was really unhappy although it was legal to have it. Another time 20 years ago I tried to board a plane in Montana (where I was living) with my camping knife in the backpack. That was way more excitement than I needed. It can happen.
An old man who misunderstood 2 mangos and a honey is fined $200. A bunch of Chinese women who smuggle a whole grocery store with infestation is fined $360. The law is truly unfair
The thing I find difficult about Auckland airport is that officialdom doesn't seem to have any multilingual staff. It's painful seeing them talking *loudly* in English to someone who clearly isn't proficient in English. Me: she's not deaf. Official: are you being funny sir?
It's honey for Pete's sake..& packaged😮??? How in the world do you all get goods down there? It's messed up to charge a fine to an old man who doesn't understand the rules of your country??? Guess border control needs to make $$$ somehow!!! 😶
A lot of elderly people in these videos use excuses for their actions. This old man though in my opinion, should have known about the fruit. The honey was excusable as he explained it as being jam from the hotel.
Drug dealers often use the elderly as mules for this very reason. Age is no excuse. The tour leader should have educated him on the plane when they were given their arrival cards.

Smuggling drugs is one of the worst decisions a person can make. The risk-reward is so skewed to the bad side of things, especially in SE Asia.
How about the other side of the world ? Where do drug cartels operate ? I think you need to improve your knowledge of the world map
@@bona-fide-pc, those cartels move drugs over open borders and not through customs. Perhaps you should take your own advice.
