I saw KWS in the late 90s at Memphis in May. He closed with Hendrix and there was a guy in the front with his young boy on hos shoulders. The little boy was giving Kenny a thumbs up sign throughout the song. And when Kenny finished, he gave them hos guitar.

Kenny what a young legend and a guitar master at a young age. No matter what he plays it will always sound like Kenny. Thanks for sharing Fil and a great analysis on Mr Wayne Shepherd. Also I remember figuring out songs using cassette tapes, rewind rewind. Better than wearing out your turntable needle.

FIL >>>> We all need to give props to Fil ! ..... Fil is just as fun to watch as the artists, I dig watching Your pure joy and enthusiasm for guitar- rock-blues-music history etc... You are such an honest and consummate professional representative of Your generation...cheers from a 57 year old former touring drummer :)

Thank you for pointing out the old school way that so many of us used to learn songs, repeated listening, etc.!

    • @nellgwenn
      @nellgwenn 5 лет назад +1

Sometimes it was confusing because you play the tape or album over and over and hear something new every time you practice it along with the song. And then when you're certain you have a bit of the song down, you play the song and hear something new again.
It really trains your ear to hear the whole ensemble, and how all the pieces fit together.

  • @CreekyGuy

Not only are your analyses invaluable to guitar players of nearly every experience level, but to non-players as well. These vignettes are (in an oblique way), the equivalent of tabs for players. The notes are the hearts of a song. These commentaries are so high-quality, they become a part of the soul of the song. Then, going back and listening to your choices uninterrupted, makes a much richer experience. In some cases even listening to other songs. It carries.

    • @lynndow3185

Absolutely love how you describe the breakdown of the music. I bought a guitar and tho never took it far, but as you say, songs I'd listened to numerous times and to then play along with them by ear, just made me feel like a King, despite my children s scoffing. They lack the vision of what i wanted to do and accomplish for my own self esteem.

Great Review, KWS is one of my favorite Strato-Master.
Great to watch this performance as KWS makes it look much easier than usual (for himself).
This performance is masterful in the way KWS projects his expression with each and every note played.
I believe Kenny uses a Tube Screamer and a King of Tone, both obviously running at the same time!
So great when the dynamics of the guitar run from one extreme to the other in the same riff.
It takes lots of experience to make it look as easy as KWS does performing this track.
Thanks for the Review Fil, much appreciated and really enjoyable/entertaining.

Yep I was born in the 1960s and we didn't have any internet videos or tablature books back then so I had to learn everything the hard way. Including music theory in school. I had an old Radio Shack 2-speed telephone recorder on which I would record leads then play them back at half-speed (and an octave lower) and transcribe them myself. Definitely the HARD way!! Finally I LOVE Kenny's style :)

Hey, Fil! Thank you for your fair analysis! At this time, Kenny Wayne Shepherd is the best. No, he's not SRV. He's KWS and he has his own riffs! This was filmed on a cruise. What can you expect? I've seen him LIVE many times and he sounds as good as his recordings. Not many are able to do that! He burns slow, then sizzles, then bursts into a whole lightning storm of musicality. I didn't know you did this and I suggested a KWS tune for you to view. I hope you do that. It's also LIVE, and you'll see what I'm talking about. Once again, thank you so much!

Went to the link. Didn't know this side of him. Thought he was younger. His lines are clean-cut as hec! Only knew some album cuts and some of 'The Rides'. Shudda KNOWN there was a deeper back round. Thanks.....aGAIN.

Great one Fil Kenny lives or hales from Shreveport Louisiana. Which is 45 minutes from my home town in North East Texas Longview. Gotta admit he's shredded the f... out of voodoo child. He's already got a list of original numbers that are on yeah classic rock stations here since modern day rock seems to have disappeared from radio been that way for a pretty good while it's just so ridiculous. Its almost blasphemy that the rock genre is almost... not gonna say it it's better to burn out than fade away. By God no matter what happens Rock will never die . That's one thing Neil Young got right even though my southern mates had to set him straight. But non of any of that matter its exactly what your saying Fil it doesn't matter what public radio has got to offer because of RUclips. Kenny has been around for 20 years so he is very experienced. Good call Fil . Great job. Rock ! 🤘🎶🇨🇱😎👍
