Jim Capaldi's drum groove is so light n tasty just percolating away until the the explosion at the chorus. One of my favorite tracks from the moment I heard it about 100 years ago. Thanks man !
Stunning track from my favourite Traffic album. This really grooves along!
Probably my favorite song from an album that I’ve owned and loved for 40 years.
Same!
Brilliant song. Winwood, Capaldi and Wood were in a groove for this one.
One of my favorite songs from a favorite group. I hope you can get to the Shootout At the Fantasy Factory album, it is often overlooked and is just as fine as the rest of Traffic's catalog. Great reaction!
This album was originally planned as a Winwood solo album called Mad Shadows. During rehearsal he decided to invite his former band mates and reformed Traffic.
A total feel good song from start to finish. I’ve seen Steve Winwood in concert many times. This song is always a crowd pleaser.
Great reaction!
One of their very best tunes. Vocals and instrumentals are great!
This song is so funky, that it's downright illegal.
You can guarantee that anything associated with Steve Winwood is of very high quality.
Superb Traffic.
Listening here makes me pay more attention to the interesting groove, the playful drumming and of course bass… plus find out more info on inspiration, cool. Totally see how a muse can inspire your forward momentum or totally stop it.
I’m ‘Glad’ you’ve reduced your volume slightly and increased the volume of the music - it makes for better enjoyment of the music!
Fabulous groove to this album. Paul Weller was really influenced by Traffic and really drew on that vibe on his early solo albums in the nineties.
That's what's known in the trade as a 'boss groove'. 😁
Blood Sweat & Tears do a nice cover of this as well. I've always loved this track, just a magnificent melody.
Groovy keys!
Classic Capaldi Drum beat, such a tasty mover this tune. Chris Woods Organ also doing great work.
Haven't heard this in a long time. I'd forgotten how funky Traffic could be. I always loved Winwood's organ playing (I think that's Winwood!).
it's definitely him :)
Pretty cool song ! I liked it. Reminds me a tiny bit of Genesis in the chorus.
A good song for sure, and the hammond solo is great. Prepared for the last track of the album...it's a masterpiece!
I am not completely familiar with Traffic. If I had walked into the room blind, I would have guessed this was Grateful Dead. This tune. Like others are saying, 'nice groove.'
Traffic in concert would usually extend the solo sections, which puts them into the 'jam band' genre for some. I usually compare them more to bands like Santana than the Dead, but there were definitely similarities. That might be why they were more popular in the states than the UK during this period.
I would agree with your Santana comparison with a song other than this one. My other thought on an earlier song was Chicago but you are correct. I think Santana would fit based upon what Justin has played so far.@@yes_head
@@michaelfrank2266 I agree, the Santana comparison is weak re: this song. I use them as a general comparison in that both bands were following the same 'progressive' ethos in the way they blended styles, plus they would both extend jams on stage. It was definitely a thing happening globally in music around 1970, particularly with the American west coast scene.
They carried on quite well, minus Dave Mason
Top 20 album of the 70s. My opinion
