When you introduced it, I thought aw naw , then the haunting sax at the beginning got me, this is going on my playlist excellent, this is one of the best iv been introduced to on this channel, I like it lot's 🏴✌️

The song is about the music industry and how musicians are taken advantage of.

I went looking to found out what that is, and what I found was that it is a Hamon through a reverb.
My youngests college dorm mates used to think Higher Love was "Make Me a Pie of Love" ! Lol

I'm so enjoying watching your reaction to this song - because it mirrors my first reaction to it. My introduction to Traffic was the hit song "Hole in My Shoe:"; and then I extended my knowledge. Traffic went from blues, to folk to modern jazz. And all of it was so listenable. As a side note; that album cover was the cut away cube - it was six-sided
This was the 70s "Head Shop" jam, I swear they all had this on a tape loop as they lavished worldly praise on the wares in their shops, but the fuzzboxed Hammond in the earphone was magical, that just pounced on you out of no where eh Gang?... Too bad Dave Mason was in & out of the group but I digress, because I`d rather agree with the Hainier take on how Steve structured the songs lyrics on the greed of those in the industry he`s entered into professionally, Keep on rockin Haniers giddyup A ding-dong

I think this is the song that I have the most often listen to during my 60+ yrs old life. To get high, no need any substance when I got this Traffic one. The live version (on the On The Road double LP is still better... and longer). Another great one is "Shoot Out At The Fantasy Factory" (the song). You should try.
Before the internet, I have thought that sound might be Chris Wood playing clarinet in that avant garde jazz type style. Great song.
