When cobbler, David Lee, lost his thumb while polishing a heel, he immediately knew his career as a shoe-fixer was over. But, after a referral to Royal Derby Hospital he learned about ‘toe-to-thumb reconstruction’. Fast forward one year, and after receiving surgery to replace his missing thumb with his big toe, David is back in the workshop doing what he does best. He joins us alongside the surgeon who operated on him, Jill Arrowsmith.
