I just got a Deering Americana, and I'm a bluegrass picker. I love the mellow, plunky tone of this banjo for playing bluegrass, and it's got great playability right out of the box.
I just started learning 3 finger and originally got a random banjo on ebay. I tried to buy another only to think too loud! too twangy! my cheap one is gentle and I've gotten used to that sound. it's my first time trying to learn an instrument ever so I probably will never need it too be loud
Have you tabbed out the tunes you played in this review? BTW I play an Americana. It has the scoop neck. Mine has planetary tuners and is in the same colour as the classic you reviewed.
Could you comment on the 'scooped neck' option? Most banjos dedicated to clawhammer style seem to sport that option. Is it necessary or just nice to have? Thanks!
I wonder if having a scoop would weaken the neck significantly enough to be a concern... given that the GoodTime models lack a truss rod or any other reinforcement.

it's easy to play over a non scooled banjo neck of the action it high enough. i personally like a higher bridge.

It's nót a rosewood fingerboard. Is is probabely Cimmon. Some kind of cherrywood of Japanese origin.
