    I feel your pain about locomotives, I still have my first aroura Postage stamp and the box it came in. Just a thought I bought a glass front display case and I can get about 50 locos in it. Got mine at a train show for 60.00. I am not a big fan of sound, yes they are cool when running them. I do detail all my locos with MU and cab shades as a minimum, also not a fan of rust bucket locos. My switchers for the coal mine and steel mill are what some would call RB's hand me downs. I have a tip for you on coal loads I found a Textured gel that has black sand in it. It goes on white but dries clear and the black sand gives the plastic load depth. I just dull coat the load. and if I use it on a gravel load I use a flat gray. It is from Pebeo studio acrylics, they have a web site. very cool expansion!

      i'll have to check out the Pebeo Studio Acrylic product - that sounds like it might make a nice upgrade. right now i'm taking the plastic loads the cars come with and i have a pan pastel color that shimmers for the coal effect. I love a couple of rust bucket locos working some of the older industries. i see them in the wild, so it's fun to model them for me. MU hoses and sun shades do add a lot - i'm spoiled by the details with ScaleTrains now, though.

    I just enjoy watching and listening to these update vids. This one had tons of expansion and operation info. I know you are glad to have all the extra options from that one expansion. Enjoyed 😊

      glad you're enjoying - yes, can't wait to bring more random trains onto and off of the layout during videos!

    Hi C Mastracci , you have been very busy the last month. You have got a lot of things done. I do like the expansion , yes I would put a line in to get by the yard. All of my auto racks are Micro Trains. The Scale Train ones are more modern do not fit my era. I wish they would make older ones. I wish someone would make some with just the sides covered. I seen some like that on videos of trains in the early 80’s. Ford motor company went to the railroads telling them they wanted sides on the auto racks to protect their vehicles. Years later they wanted them completely covered on top and ends. A little history lesson there. Thanks for sharing. Have a good weekend. HAPPY EASTER. 😎😎 👍

      happy Easter! The MTL cars are nice - i always have a soft spot for MTL. ST does crush it on the modern versions but they're definitely that - they're present day runs. I haven't seen any of the sided cars in n-scale - either open or fully enclosed. might be a fun scratch build though...

      @@AlleghenyNorthern I’m sorry Athearn did make in the Southern name and I have them. Like the car but not the couplers need to change them.

    Wow! The expansion is going to add so much fun. You'll need a couple more people for operations. Enjoyed as always

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  9 месяцев назад

      ah yes - i'm already enjoying the long train runs - it's starting to take a bit of time to get trains around the layout. each section is starting to operate like its own layout. i have to do one run, then switch trains, then do the next one, until all the jobs are done. multiple operators would take time down considerably.

    Hey I see you that you have great Big job well ahead of you by now but at the same time you are making progress on you super big N scale layout even though it's a mess hey just work on your layout a little at a time you will have your layout looking real nice and also maybe sometime down the road if you can is there any way that you can show us every N scale locomotive and all the N scale train cars that you now have I would like to see that to happen in the future if it's in your plans if you do make a video of this can you give us a update on your progress of this if possible and thank you very much for showing us your Layout and some of your trains on your layout

      Yes, I can do a video for the rolling stock and motive power on the layout.

    I really like ur layout , only thing I have a say on the weathering is that CEMENT hopper is dry bulk, there would never be spilled concrete which is wet in that hopper. So the wet look would not be . Thanx

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  8 месяцев назад

      You are correct that the bulk material would be dry, but spilled material left either on the ground or on the car would eventually be rained on which would make quite a crusty mess. So that's the look i'm going for - and the approach was actually taken from a bulk trailer that looked like it had seen better days because not too many of the railcar pictures showed the top.

    You mentioned two new additions to your roster, you said the Scale Trains southern high hood was a GP 40, I think we all knew what you meant, but just to clarify its a SD 40-2 like you said the Chessie was. Great layout!!

    • @AlleghenyNorthern

      That was an exceptionally challenging build. Unfortunately, other than make a couple of update videos - i didn't do a how-to on it. i plan to build another, so when i do - i'll take the time to put the video together.

    Lots of good update stuff in here…I really have to pinch myself 😊 to not buy another diesel….nowhere to put them…the one thing I really miss is a large yard to park trains…should’ve done Nscale 😂😂…

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  9 месяцев назад +2

      Even in N scale - it's still easy to run out of space! i have decided to no longer fight my urge to buy locos and cars - i'm just giving in to the dark side.

      Thanks! yes the track is mostly Unitrack - and the parts that aren't Unitrack are run with Kato's flextrack since the two are designed to be complimentary.

    Metal wheel sets shouldn’t be a problem in AR loops unless they are resistor wheel sets.

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  9 месяцев назад +1

      it will because it's still tripping the AR and if you've got metal wheels and locos on both sides, it short out, then corrects, then shorts, then corrects - so the train will eventually jerk it's way through the loops, but that's no bueno.

    • @Bliz0516
      @Bliz0516 9 месяцев назад

      @@AlleghenyNorthern yes I can certainly see that with a loco on both sides.

    What do you use to uncouple your cars

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  9 месяцев назад

      i actually use a clay sculpting tool that looks like one of those plastic uncoupler tools you can buy.
