I wish that should have been Lupe’s track and was added on to Food & Liquor, he was the perfect fit to that song and the way he was rapping on it was ridiculous with so much wordplay and inner rhyme schemes 🔥
The Lasers era was wild. I feel like Lupe grew and his label wanted him stuck making gummy pop and he wanted to make a another badass radical album like his first two were.
He was the kendrick of his time.

I remember being in pacsun in like 2007, I heard Daydreaming and left there immediately to buy the album. He got a lot of shit for kick push for posing but the talent couldn't be denied. Great video.

Lupe also had a great mixtape run and was on Shinoda’s Fort Minor mixtape on 2 songs. And one of those few rappers to ride in on the streetwear wave. Was a great start.
I think Lu’s main problems were exacerbated once Chilli was gone. He’s principled and surprisingly standoff-ish, not great with the 360 drama. And then his weird left turns kept throwing people off.
The 360 shit killed label backing. The Obama drama cut his sponsorship legs out. Lasers being his poppy album after the huge wait left fans lost, and then F&L2 felt preachily political. Totally overshadowed the actual quality of the content.
Loved him back in the day. Need to go back and listen his stuff

He didn’t “walk away” he had a chance the rapper moment. He had two great albums..amazing features..all eyes on him…then dropped a HUGE dud and people stopped paying attention.
He’s been made up for that trash lasers album but it’s not like his newer albums are anything amazing. He’s easily a top greatest mc ever but his song be meh af for the most part. He mostly shines in Jawns like mural when he’s just GOING TF IN. but those song obviously don’t sell. But yeah..that’s his situation..he didn’t walk away from anything he flopped.
Also, I was disappointed in samurai. That single was a perfect rap song so I thought he finally fixed his hook problem….nope
nah it isnt that people stopped paying attention. He had one of the most open battles with the labels I've seen in recent memory. And this was before artist were collectively calling labels shady. They shelved his music and stopped marketing music for him all together. Didnt Push FL2 or T&Y while he was on Atlantic. As fans we just found out randomly. People like lupe but people arent privy to dive back into artist from the past. 2nd Lupe message is international type its not just American so feel that makes a weird marketing point , but marketing is the breaking point . Besides labels use bots now.
