Really enjoyed this video, I like the way you talk about composition as an aesthetic process and more than simply graphic design. The shot at 13:10 is indeed a beauty, made by the colour in the trees for me. Just a point about the two images at 9:38 & 9:52. I agree with you about the first one, that the single branch going out of frame is a distraction (almost a mistake) but in the second one most of the branches go out of frame and it feels much better as if it was intended. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Keith much appreciated, everything you see is intentional ;-) I just didn't film the landscape version because of time though I've a tighter portrait one with the branches touching the frame edge on both sides also. The one I showed had the best amount of background softening.
What turned out to be your favourite image is just glorious. It's Narnia, and the coppery twigs and grasses work so well. These trees are just so full of character, and the way the snow stuck to the trunks and branches was just magical.
it should become one of the great photographic wisdoms: never judge a photo in the field. They are usually worse than expected. But in this case, your photo from 13:00 is brilliant.
Wonderful images as usual Stuart. As always you only get out what you put in. This is a classical example of getting out there and embracing the elements. Well done!!!
Hi Stuart, pretty chilly but another grand day out. Thanks for sharing. Very sensible to know when to stop as nature has no respect for folk that are unprepared, so the safety tip alone is a good one to remember. Super images again. All the best.
Thanks Steve yeah it was fine getting out in the end as the tractors had been up and down the road a few times though it could have easily been a bit of a nightmare
Lovely images Stuart. It must be so tempting to just capture everything around you, so I admire your tenacity to resist and capture the scenes that most appeal to you. Great stuff
Great shots and love the honesty about your photography and the agonising decisions we have to make....and how responsive we have to be in our fickle winters...now lashing rain!!
Definitely jealous of those conditions Stuart. Lovely set of shots & that second to last shot (the close up one) was superb - combination of the subtle colours & the blurry snow flakes.. I bet it printed out beautifully...
All stunning images, the conditions were stunning, a bit jealous to say the least. Your favourite image is belting, love the shapes and interactions of the branches.
What beautiful conditions! Despite the original forecasts, we ended up getting nothing at all here which was rather disappointing. I live in hope that this winter will provide another episode, and I may have to drive somewhere to get to it. Awesome photos Stuart, and glad to see you erred on the side of caution when things started to close in.
I can't help feeling a little envious at the conditions you were shooting in, as what little snow I've had around my locations in recent times has generally fallen at night and has stopped by the time there was any daylight. Love the images, they're all great and your favourite is pretty spectacular I have to say!
Me, too. Here in the deep south US we get spotty, occasional light snow maybe once every four to five winters. It can get reasonably cold ...well, cool. For example, it was 12F (-11C) here the other night but that's historically on the low side. New trend? Dunno. But all we got was just enough sleet and freezing rain to make it somewhat treacherous to be out (given our understandable lack of winter precip response capabilities). Winter is usually either total grey suck or clear pale blue skies, either way with lots of dead stuff about.
Thanks Ian yeah the lack of snow these days can be a little frustrating, I was fortunate this week to be able to catch this as I’m currently on puppy sitting duties the days my partner is in the office, this was one of her work from home days so I nipped out.
Really enjoyed this new video, Stuart. The fells and trees look so very different than they did in autumn! Love how you take us through your experience that day. Hoping for some of that snowflake beauty to arrive here soon. Best to you.
Great conditions, and the shapes of those trees with the snow on them were amazing...a fine set of images,I really liked the one that you almost passed on!
Brilliant conditions Stuart. The image at 13.00 is absolutely beautiful, has a lovely flow to it. I was out myself in a dfferent part of the lakes during that snowfall, in my trusty go anywhere Jimny.
Ooo, bonus video - I was expecting something from Assynt next. You had some great conditions there Stuart, we've had nothing like that on the opposite side of the country. Some great images and I'm torn between the first and last image taking second spot for me because your 'messy' image is my first. I think that the shapes, subtle colours and the falling snow capture make it for me. Thanks for the upload.
Super shot of that 'broken' tree, really stunning. Wish we'd get these conditions down in the Brecon Beacons, but they are very few and far between these days. Great video Stuart
Really enjoyed all the shots, Stuart, taking great advantage of the conditions. Bet they look good printed up in the gallery and definitely deserve a few buyers there! All the best mate 😊
a lovely set of images there Stuart and a good learning point there about awaiting to get the images back home to make a final determination and its a good feeling finding those little nuggets on the bigger screen. No snow here on the west coast of Scotland but might get the storm coming through this weekend so maybe a chance to make something out of the bad weather
As always lovely images Stuart. I'm hoping those conditions drop down south a couple of hundred miles. Failing that I'll have to nip up to your neck of the woods and hope for the best, have the kettle ready 🤣 Thanks for sharing.
Hi Stuart, considering you had no real plan you certainly captured spme lovely images. Have to say when you were looking at that set of trees inwas thinking , i cant see what he is looking at but i have to say, what an image, like you i think that was my favourite image. Really enjoyed that , glad you made it home safe! Take care mate.
Great shots Stuart. Really miss the snow here in Aus - we’ve just had a 4 day run of 40+ here in Perth 🤪. Thankfully cooled down a little to around 30 so at least we can get out of the aircon and do things. Looking forward to Assynt, assuming you don’t get snowed in.
Cheers Steve we had hoar frost in Assynt which was brilliant though we missed the snow by a week (quite glad I actually as I think I’d have preferred the frost anyway)
Agree, the "messy" tree is full of detail and atmosphere, love it. As an aside, have you tried the nik tonal contrast filter on snow? Great at getting detail but keeping white. 😊
Very Jealous, Just to add the shot at 13:00 is wonderful, gets better the more I look at it, best of the bunch and one of the best I've seen in quite a while.

Thanks that’s much appreciated 👍
I feel like the orange tones signify life - in the midst of near death. Very nice, as usual. Thanks.
Cheers 👍

Thanks very much Holger 👍👍
Loved that Stu. Stunning conditions. Love the one with the messy section and those orange tones. Final image is gorgeous too
Thanks pal much appreciated
Wonderful images as usual Stuart. As always you only get out what you put in. This is a classical example of getting out there and embracing the elements. Well done!!!
Thanks 👍👍
Thanks for braving the elements to post another enjoyable video Stuart
Thanks Adrian

Lovely images Stuart. It must be so tempting to just capture everything around you, so I admire your tenacity to resist and capture the scenes that most appeal to you. Great stuff
Thanks Huw a level of familiarity helped, there’s a lot of dead ends up there despite like you say it all looking lovely at first glance
Great shots and love the honesty about your photography and the agonising decisions we have to make....and how responsive we have to be in our fickle winters...now lashing rain!!
Cheers Terry yep they don’t last long these cold fronts do they
Definitely jealous of those conditions Stuart. Lovely set of shots & that second to last shot (the close up one) was superb - combination of the subtle colours & the blurry snow flakes.. I bet it printed out beautifully...
Thanks John yep I’ll likely be printing that one
Stuart you have a way of making the ordinary look stunning. Well done and thanks for your video.
Very kind Paul thanks
All stunning images, the conditions were stunning, a bit jealous to say the least. Your favourite image is belting, love the shapes and interactions of the branches.
Thanks Martin much appreciated 👍

Thanks Martin I’ve a feeling there’s more to come this season with the cold

That`s the extraordinary one ! My eyes stayed on it for longer , had to absorb the mood and orange blueish colours. And repeated your video at 13:00 .
Thanks Claus 👍
Thank you for doing your best and bringing us along for the adventure! As we can’t get to the LD within half an hour it’s greatly appreciated
Cheers for watching
Magical conditions Stuart and glad you made some marvellous images of it.

Really enjoyed this new video, Stuart. The fells and trees look so very different than they did in autumn! Love how you take us through your experience that day. Hoping for some of that snowflake beauty to arrive here soon. Best to you.
Thanks for watching 👍
Amazing shots and conditions. Loved your comment on shooting handheld as you can't be bothered faffing about with a tripod. That is so me.
Thanks Alan yes there was little need for tripod, loads of light and just slows you down in a reactive scenario
Great conditions, and the shapes of those trees with the snow on them were amazing...a fine set of images,I really liked the one that you almost passed on!
Thanks Neil 👍
Brilliant conditions Stuart. The image at 13.00 is absolutely beautiful, has a lovely flow to it. I was out myself in a dfferent part of the lakes during that snowfall, in my trusty go anywhere Jimny.

Great snowy day out. You captured some nice pics. Impressive.
Thanks
Super shot of that 'broken' tree, really stunning. Wish we'd get these conditions down in the Brecon Beacons, but they are very few and far between these days. Great video Stuart
Thanks Malcolm
Love these shots Stuart. That next to last image is a little special, cracking shot.
Cheers Trevor 👍
Real nice shots Stuart and shows how adapting to the conditions is so important. No snow in Essex but when do we ever get any! Cheers, Nick

Lucky sod! Hardley a snowflake in the Midlands 🤨. I do like the last image you shot. 😀
Cheers
Lovely that favourite image was great, was wondering about Great Mell but worried about getting out so went to Eden
Cheers David yeah I was a tad worried but was fine in the end getting out
Agree, the "messy" tree is full of detail and atmosphere, love it. As an aside, have you tried the nik tonal contrast filter on snow? Great at getting detail but keeping white. 😊
Cheers Simon I haven’t though I’ve no real issues processing snow
Lovely video - some of the B-roll is better than some of my best stills 😁. The tight shot at about 13:00 is truly beautiful.
Haha cheers Mike certainly was beautiful conditions
Very Jealous, Just to add the shot at 13:00 is wonderful, gets better the more I look at it, best of the bunch and one of the best I've seen in quite a while.
Thanks very much 👍
Really hoping there is another cold snap in the lakes in a few weeks 🤭😇😀
That would be nice 🤞
Excellent Stuart! What is your white balance setting while shooting in snow??
Thanks Craig, normally daylight WB though in this situation a bit warmer maybe cloudy as I was shooting in a lot of low cloud as the snow came through
