- After 22 years, Modelo Especial has officially dethroned Bud Light as the bestselling beer brand in the U.S. And Constellation Brands, the distributor of Modelo Especial and Corona, is the biggest winner. In its latest earnings report, released June 30, the company reported a 6% increase in both net sales and net income. But nearly six months prior, the company's stock dropped by more than 9% after mixed results. While Constellation Brands has had a strong performance since, inflation continues to affect the beer industry. Hence, the increase in beer prices. Watch the video above to learn how Constellation Brands has capitalized on America's growing Hispanic population to bring Mexican beer to the top and keep investors bullish on its outlook.

How Modelo Dethroned Bud Light In The U.S.
The reason why is mainly because those that needed a Bud Light alternative tried Modelo and realized how it tasted way better.
They are the same company or deal with each other 😂😂😂
Modelo is disgusting
bud light sucks.
Being an Irish ale drinker, I never find anything from the American continent good, until I tried Negra Modelo 😂 that thing is wonderful. Too bad I can't find it my country.
Yeah no
Modelo just HITS, especially Modelo Negra. I love the balance of crispness and fullness. I feel classier drinking a modelo, whereas with a bud light, I feel like a degenerate.
Damn straight I'm a degenerate
As long as it makes you feel classy!
Nothing wrong with that! @@machinmon.

Negra Modelo is essentially the same style of beer as a dark German Oktoberfest, which is normally a seasonal style of beer. Even though I usually opt for local brewed beer, I do really like that I can get this beer year round to scratch the same itch.
In Mexico, I like the fact that Modelo has different types of Modelo. Modelo Especial, Modelo Negra, Modelo Amber, Modelo Trigo, Modelo Pura Malta. Honestly, they are all very good. Highly recommend trying them all if traveling to Mexico 👍
Also try Bohemia and Barrilito AKA (Bull's testicles or Huevos de Toro because they are shaped like small testicles XD )
Modelo ambar is the best to me!
Over here in America they have flavors like lime and salt mango watermelon Pina all amazing!

I've tried them all as I live in Mexico. Bud light tastes like watered down pee imo.
The real story in this whole Bud Light saga is that someone, somewhere, long ago convinced millions of people to buy/drink a very, very awful beer. Bud Light is horrible, but somehow people were convinced to spend money on it. Whoever started that successful marketing effort is the hero. Find that person and do a story on how a crappy beer became #1.
MEX-TEX-AME n i like Bud Light 1st, Corona 2nd, n i think Modelo tastes like water..lol
Tried Modelo back in 2006. Been drinking it ever since. Great beer. Never been a fan of tasteless Budlight. If Modelo gets a Superbowl commercial, GAME, SET, MATCH!

Mexican beer is very popular here in Australia, and has been for about 20 years.
I lived in Canada for a year (I am Mexican) & my Canadian colleagues & co-workers used the money they got from recycling the cans & glass bottles from other beer brands to buy themselves a Corona six pack. It was always like that, if we had a party, they always showed up with a Corona six pack. They said Corona was their weekend beer. For me it was just beer.
Lol! That’s funny 😁

My dad worked in modelo group in Mexico City for 32 years, he told me that the beer most consumed in that time and I know was called “Victoria”. A friend from Denmark told me that Mexican beer is the best he ever tried o tasted. Of corse, number one is or was “Victoria” for him.

I had La Victoria when I visited Guanajuato years ago and I loved that beer! They sell it here in the USA also, but IT’s harder to find.
The fact that any Budweiser product took this long to lose its perch is mind-boggling to me. It's been trash beer since I first tried it over 30 years ago and I never understood the U.S.'s love for it.

True, it's about taste and cost. Yes, there are 1000s of craft beers but no really as affordable. Also, it's true that we should look at these Mexican brands as ours, the same as Mexicans have been consuming products from US manufacturers for more than 100 years so they also see these American brands are theirs.

Mexican beers, such as Corona, Pacifico, and Modelo, have become the new favorite of American consumers, dethroning Bud Light, which had held the title of the “king of beers” for 22 years. Modelo Especial, in particular, overtook Bud Light in May and June of 2023 and is now the number one beer in America by revenue. Constellation Brands, which distributes Modelo, reported a 6.4% increase in revenue in the quarter ending May 31st, compared to the same period last year. Mexican beer was already dominating the US market prior to Bud Light’s fall, with Mexican beer imports doubling between 2013 and 2023. Demographics also play a role, as Hispanics make up about 19% of the US population and are more likely to favor Modelo Especial. Constellation Brands has marketed heavily towards this group but is also expanding its advertising strategy to appeal to a broader customer base. Craft beers are also on the rise, and Modelo Especial fits into this trend as consumers are willing to spend more on each beer. Experts predict that Modelo Especial will remain the number one beer in America for years to come.

Modelo like they say would’ve surpassed even without the bud light problems. Modelo is a staple for any Mexican male. We began to consume it a lot more in the last ten years. Now we passed bud light in the blink of an eye when they had problems because bud light wasn’t just a one gender beer. Both white males and white females drank it. So when they had those problems modelo gained to demographics. But Mexican men alone would’ve surpassed them without that hiccup in about two years. The next brand that will move up will be Pacifico. It’s another Staple in Mexico and it’s actually has the most flavor, but at the moment it’s not as widely available. One of the reason that Pacifico hasn’t exploded is due to their use of originally only bottling it in dark bottles. But in the last couple of years they’ve begun to Can it, but there’s a slight different taste between the bottle and can. But once they can figure out their can situation, it will pass modelo in 5-7 years
I think a more interesting question to ask is “How bud light managed to stay on the throne this long”
good funny marketing.
Marketing and patriotism.
Low standards among drinkers, Cheap, excellent marketing with a dark blue label to give the cold aesthetic, so light that featherweights can show off to their friends and pretty disposable beer at parties.

Aguevooo everything Mexican is #1 our food, beaches, beer, our vacation get aways , our culture, todo lo mexicano is muy bueno us women are hermosas too Viva Mexico Cabrones 😂😬🇲🇽👍💕❤️
Or maybe it's because one tastes like pre-used bath water and the other is a nice cool crisp Modelo.
Viva Mexico!!!! It has always been the #1 American beer.
I love the last part, we should think about these brands just as Americans as we treat other brands 👍🏼 lots of Hispanics born here and they love America just as anyone else.
Modelo is a great tasting beer well rounded.... modelo especial is tops....the best....
Modelos adds are very clean. Oddly very relaxing to watch. Kind of gives off a feeling that the beer itself is clean and relaxing which it is in my opinion.
Yeah they embrace machismo
Medelos I noticed in web search is vegan which can be a plus as some beers & wines add chemical's & thinning agents like isinglass eg Guiness
The consumer has more power than they realize.
They don't
why not?@@enginerunsable
Well. ABiv doesn't have a distributor right in America, they still own Modelo and Corona. So you giving money to the same people. Plus, if some (relative) minor PR thing happens that makes you shift, you not shifting for no good reason, just being run by emotions, not any moral standing.
In the USA, Constellation Brands owns Modelo, Corona, Pacifico and Victoria beers. They also brew their own products. AB isn't involved in any way and doesn't make a penny.@@enginerunsable
Looks like Bud Light hired the wrong ad executive. They should have said, by the way, "don't insult our beer drinking base and understand the customers". Clearly she was not listening.
The news media in the USA always show videos or photos of Mexico as being old or neglected, and that's not the case. It really bothers me
I genuinely believe "it's modelo time foo" greatly contributed to Modelo's rise
Americans love Mexican beer because it’s really Bavarian/Viennese beer. I’ll take a Modelo Especial with birria tacos now, please.
That's true. I've read that the original makers of Mexican beer were German decent.
@@excusemenoexcusemeno1671 Their beer Negra Modelo is essentially a dark German Oktoberfest beer, which is actually pretty damn nice to have available since the German style is normally only available in the autumn.
This should be titled: How Bud Light Dethroned Itself
The old adage holds true:
GET WOKE, GO BROKE.
If you enjoy modelo, you're gonna LOVE VICTORIA!
Just got back from Columbia South America.
Aguila is the popular beer there. My god I wish it would come here in America. Man it was good!
I had my first Modello recently and I liked it
Welcome to the club
eat a lime wedge with a bit of salt sprinkled on it as needed it will change your life
It's simple "Go Woke, Go Broke" You went way to in depth
If you offer better products all around, customers will go that way. This beers are one of my favorites even before the Spike and lead in the US market.
Salud !!!!
