    I have an Expedition-1998. Rear pump went out. So I determined that soon the front would go out and cause me to spend more money. So I purchased a conversion kit to go with springs and shocks for the front and back. ($419 for the kit). Now the vehicle sits stronger and slightly higher, giving me a smooth ride and a peace of mind.

      ajparr what was the problem with your 2010 navi? I got a 09 navi with same problems

    • @ajparr
      @ajparr 7 лет назад

      The rear wheel wells were only about an inch above the tires and when driving it, any bumps at all caused long oscillating bouncing in the rear end.
      Good luck fixing your '09, but it should be fairly straightforward!

    Great Video! Thanks for posting! I have a 2008 Expedition. My problem is the rear will sag like you show in your video however when I start the car and go in reverse or drive it will start to pump its self back up. This is random, in other words it can maintain its normal height for a couple days and other time it will sag every day. Any suggestions? Thank You in advance for your reply.

    THANK YOU! My 97 Continental wouldn’t lift...I went to my local wreckers and got the relay from another Cont 7.95 all good now! Ford was $365and Lordco was $182......read too many about conversions where the car ride feels like a truck ride now having coil springs no thanks. Also the Cont in the wreckers I got the compressor and height sensors and Arnott air bags- sweet ride now!

    Question:
    First, thank you for the video.
    I have a 2010 navigator that the rear suspension drops intermittently. what are your thoughts on that.
    It will drop while driving, but then once the vehicle has been turned off then back on, it lifts and is good for a day or so.
    any advise is greatly apreciated.

    I have a 2000 Expedition the relay and springs were replaced 4 years ago by ford service. I did the test you suggested by disconnect and reconnect and the compressor worked. Thank you for this video. I replaced just the relay only but then the sag happened again. So does that mean the pigtail needs to be replaced like you mentioned? How is this pigtail replaced?

      +FordTechMakuloco... I have a 2003 Navigator and all 4 bags are down. I replaced the right front blown airbag.The compressor is activating and air is coming through the lines to all the bags. I can hear all 4 air bag solenoids clicking on but it still isn't raising. Any ideas of what else it could be? I figured that changing the bags on the front as well as the o-rings on the back would have fixed the problem. still nothing. Any ideas?

    Hey FordTech. Great videos. I was wondering if you knew about when the compressor comes on to often. I have a Lincoln Navigator 01 that has the rear height sensor @2.4 volts and the front at about 3 volts. Both sensors seem ok when I move them up/down the scan tool voltage goes up/down. When the compressor comes on the front gate/fill solenoids come on usually. Is the the front height sensor voltage too high? If the car sits it doesn't drop after a couple hours

    FordTechMakuloco, I have a '00 that I thought had sagging rears. I followed your steps and tested the connector, and the compressor kicked on. I don't have the proper equipment to test the two smaller wires, but I think the relay works because when I turn the truck off, I can hear clicking that sounds like the relay working. I started looking at the height sensors, it looks like the rear one is extended, but the funny thing is that the rear bags are full to the max. What do you think I should check next?

    • @FordTechMakuloco

    Thank you again. But I remain confused to your response. If I replaced just the relay, then a week later the sag happened again. I unplugged and replugged the new one and it worked. How do I know it is not going to sag again.....til I wait again. So your answer is to replace the pigtail also? And how is the pigtail replaced?

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 лет назад

      +Darlene Casper Next time it happens where the rear is sagging and the pump is not coming on like usual disconnect and reconnect the relay pigtail, if it now comes to life and work you know you need to replace the pigtail.

    Is the WPT392 pigtail you listed the correct connector for a 1998 Lincoln Continental Air Suspension relay? I would think that all Ford connectors for this part are the same because the Amazon link you have listed says the pigtail won't fit a 1998 Continental.

    I have a question hope you can answer, 2001 lincoln navigator 4x4 symptoms compressor cycles on and off continuously untill suspension light comes on also after car sits off for about 40 minutes compressor runs and rear end drops. I checked for leaks and I did find a leak in the front right ( p side ) air shock housing not the rubber the shock rides on or the fitting but the housing. so that explains the compressor cycling. Now for my question can that leak cause the rear to drop as described. Thanks I appreciate your help.

    We have this problem on our 1998 Navigator. Unplugging the pigtail and plugging it back in selectively kicks the compressor back in and pumps up the back end. Sometimes it works most times it doesn’t. I tested all circuits on the pigtail and they checkout. Is this just a relay problem or should I just replace both relay and pigtail?

    I own a 2007 Expedition. Recently the rear air suspension loses air. A few days later there is a loud grinding noise in the engine compartment and some fluid leaking right near the front differential gear. I checked and replaced both the short shafts on front end and the transmission. Didn't check the air pump nor dryer. Could the pump be leaking the fluid as well? Front air suspension maintains it's pressure.

    So question for you on this system. The pump on my vehicle works ('97 Expedition). Previous owner cut the wires at the relay so connector is junk. Would it be possible to use some sort of solenoid to effectively replace this relay? I'm thinking something like the starter solenoid from a Japanese motorcycle that has to be externally grounded to activate.............. Just a thought. I might try it, if it doesn't work I'll just get F150 coil springs .......................

    I recently bought a 2000 lincoln navigator, so I'm pretty much unused to the air ride system and its problems. A few days ago the rear bags just stayed low, I didn't notice the air pump/compressor functioning before but everything was ok, 1st question, when is the air compressor supposed to turn on? at the very first moment you turn on the ignition? Because the only time I can listen to the compressor work (I think) is when truck is on Drive, but still air springs are not being inflated, so it is pretty difficult to check for leaks on 'em.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 лет назад

      Ok so it sat for awhile maybe overnight and you went to drive the truck and the back end was to the ground as in the video? Does it ever pump back up? If are really low they should pump back up with truck idling in park. Other wise they wont start to adjust till you put it in drive. Does the air compressor at least run when in drive but maybe not pump up the rear? Have you check the rear linkage for the height sensor they like to pop off on those models. I shown and example of the sensor at the end of the video.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 лет назад

      ***** If you have the old style solid state relay as shown in this video then the pigtail is likely the culprit they are very common for this concern. There should be a link in the description.

    • @wallace5515
      @wallace5515 9 лет назад +1

      FordTechMakuloco You mean the pig tail with 4 contacts would cause the compressor to come on and off while driveing and how could it cause it to not work then after 12 hour suddenly start working?

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 лет назад

      swal779725@cox.net They have pin fitment issues I have seen it plenty of times before. Next time when it is not working and is low put vehicle in park all doors closed and disconnect and then reconnect the pigtail if it now works you have just found your problem.

    Great video. My 1998 Lincoln Navigator Air Suspension quit working and the idiot light is on constantly on the instrument panel. All bags are deflated. I did all the checks mentioned. The compressor works fine when I jump across the two huge wires, and the middle ground wire all checked out perfectly. I even replaced the relay even though it was not bad. My problem is I get nothing on the 4th wire (Control Module). I did it exactly as mentioned in the video and still nothing works. Where is the control module locate on my 1998 Navigator? How difficult is it to diagnose and to replace? I have a pretty good mechanics background, but have not be able to locate the module; I think its under the dash somewhere. Oh, by the way, the air suspension on/off switch checks out good too. What else can it be. Chiltons and Haynes are clueless.
    Thanks,
    MikeyD

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 лет назад

      The control module is located right above the radio, you just have to pull the trim panel off. There are many reasons the module may not be commanding the compressor on. You can check the wire from the module to the relay and after that you will need a scan tool to check height sensor voltage park input etc.

    So the last small wire you test on the relay. If I jump the blue/pink (constant power) to the last wire black/yellow? and don’t get any light on my test light, what would be my problem?

    05 exp eddie bauer. When I turn on the fan or move electric seat the check suspension light comes and won't kick on compressor while I'm driving and thinks the trucks off and sqauts down. When I don't have fan or high usage of electronics it doesn't happen. Is this a relay or pigtail issue why it's shorting out ? Also sometimes my windows open and close fast. Sometimes there super slow. Also cd player skips a bit to like it's shorting out

    **i don't have a ride height problem ** i purchased a 02 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 4x4: back in April 2016. the previous owner stated he had replaced the air ride compressor recently. He told me about an issue where the compressor will intermittently stop coming on (anywhere from 15-45 minutes of driving) and the check suspension light will illuminate on the dash.when that happens he said: turn off the truck and wiggle the air ride compressor relay and turn the truck back on which works but i can't keep stopping on a long trip every 30 minutes to wiggle the relay. what does this sound like to you

    Hello, I have a 1999 Continental with Air Suspension in the rear only. The rear is flat on both sides and the pump will not turn on. I thought it was the ride height sensor so I replaced with no fix. I ran the tests on the plug in this video assuming it was pretty similar to the Expedition and all of them passed except the last one. Another thing I noticed is when I jump the hot to the ground and let the pump run for 3 minutes it would not lift the car. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

      +MaxDiff328 In general since the module found a fault in controlling the solid state relay it is not commanding the pump on so it never opens the rear solenoids. I do it manually with the scan tool. What you can do is fake a connection on the low current ground control from the module at the relay this way it powers the test light and thinks everything is ok then it will open the rear solenoids and then you jumper the relay pigtail as before to get the pump to come on and watch it rise.

I have not noticed any sagging or handling issues.

    I jumped the compressor and it turns on but jumper wire gets very hot. I tested the other two wires with a multimeter and get about 12 volts. Compressor will still not automatically activate. Both height sensors look OK. What next?
    Forgot to mention. I disconnected the battery to clear the check suspension light and still no change.
    Edit: replaced relay with one from a junkyard and all is well.
    Also, I bought the truck a month ago and the rear is always riding at max height giving the truck a forward rake.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 лет назад

      +TRAVIS JOHNSON Yes but it is 60 Amp fuse so almost never blows until the compressor is totally seized. That first big wire will tell you if its blown all while checking the rest of the system all from the same place.

I have a question about my ford. the truck drops when ever the truck is off and when I turn the truck on and close all the doors it pumps up. but like I said if I go into the store when I come out the rear end is sagging again. might it be the same problem as in this video?

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 лет назад +1

      No it sounds like your rear bags have cracks in them from dry rot. Does the compressor come on while driving to keep them filled?

    • @marcuslrobinson
      @marcuslrobinson 10 лет назад

      Hey Thanks for responding. Yes it does come on while driving. I thought it might be a leak as well, but the strange thing about it is, the rear end doesn't always go down when I'm parked. About 5% of the time it stays up. Are the bags easy to replace?

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 лет назад

      Yeah it just depends on the angle of the truck and how the bags settled. They can seal up temporarily where the bags roll over upon themselves. Jack up the back end let them deflate you will see the dry rot cracks and such. The bags are very easy to replaced on these. The pin up top may be rusted but besides that once they are deflated they pop right out.

    1997 2wd expedition. rear end drags if it sits overnight. if I just touch the pigtail, the compressor kicks in and the rear rises. probably corrosion in the pigtail? the Motorcraft version you speak about has about 1 foot of wire of the connector, and I'm not sure where they go. so I just cut and splice near the connector?

    • @TODDSTAPLES
      @TODDSTAPLES 8 лет назад

      My issue is getting worse. It now takes a lot of pressure to get the pigtail to make connection to the relay. ANy ideas?

      +Todd Staples remove the battery, and try electrical contact cleaner. You might also try using an eraser around the relay pins.
      It works on computer parts, I don't see why it wouldn't work here.

    Hello Sir. I have the same problem on my 2001 Ford Expedition. The back end sagged everytime I park it overnight. I'm thingking I just need to replace the air suspension relay? and sometimes even while I'm driving the back end sagged. Is it ok to drive it even when the back end sagged? I suspect maybe the airbags are leaking. I even thought about maybe puting a duct tape on it for temporary only. Any suggestions? Please help. Thank you.

    I have a 1998 Ford Expedition 5.4 Eddie Bauer 4x4. My suspension light kicks on usually after I’m driving for a while especially if I have my Dirtbike on the hitch. I have replaced the pigtail and relay. My compressor kicks on. The sensor in the back works, will kick on compressor or bleed air when I compress or expand it. I checked the air springs for leaks and didn’t hear anything although I do see cracks. I sprayed soapy water to see if it would help me see a leak and I got nothing. Any suggestions on the next step I should take would be appreciated. @FordTechMakuLoco
