The only saving grace with Black Christmas was my daughter, son in-law and I were the only ones in the theater watching this so we were able to outwardly vocalize our displeasure with what was unfolding in front of us.
The Lighthouse was my favourite film of last year, but I respect your opinion on it, and can understand why you didn't like it. It's definitely not a film for everyone, and that's fine! I really enjoyed the video, can't wait to see what you talk about next.
I think Robert Eggers' movies and Jordan Peele's movies are better than Ari Aster's films. Cause Ari Aster gets a little too pretentious at times
I don’t agree with you about The Lighthouse, BUT that’s okay because some people will love it and some won’t! That’s just life! Love the vids Cody!
Thank you
@@CodyLeachYT i actually enjoyed the vvitch.
In my black Christmas screening there was a fight between a guy dressed like Santa and an African American woman...seriously, not kidding!
Sounds more entertaining than the actual film.
Nightingale was my favorite of the year. It was brutal, but I thought it was beautiful.
I agree with you 100%!
As an Australian seeing the nightingale was great it illustrates the struggles of early Irish settlers and the aboriginal community at the time and the relationship and bond the two main characters form I think it was great. But yes that first scene was very hard to watch and I did want the ending to be a bit more brutal in her revenge. But I guess humiliating him in front of his officers I guess was enough for her
At least u didn’t see Cats
With how freaky the cats in that looked you'd think Cats was a horror film instead of a musical. And Mr "starts every song by saying his own name" Jason Derulo defending it just because he was in it saying its critics don't know what they're talking about was pathetic. I thought to myself "The film was shit and bombed at the box office mate. Accept it instead of pretending it was great just because you were in it."
That film was terrifying
The Fanatic Starring That Hair also featuring John Travolta 😂😂😂
OMG I LOVE The Fanatic!!!!!!!!! It's the best "so bad it's good" movie I've seen in a long time.
...Directed by Limp Bizkit 😂
I agree with you on Dumbo. However, in my opinion I thought it accomplished a lot more than Aladdin and ugh, The Lion King.
I see where you're coming from with the Lighthouse, but as an actor I always look at performances, but Dafoe and Pattinson were brilliant. And I love artsy films in general. But I respect your opinion!
That was a nice tease photo shot for this video, I was about to flip out if Star Wars or Terminator made this list
Always good to see that my man Cody uploaded a video. Keep up the great work.
I don't believe anyone has given Black Christmas 2019 a positive review.
The Horror Miser Monty G and never will that movie is complete garbage trash i will never call this movie black christmas its black wokemas to me the one and only black christmas is the 1974 masterpiece
@@martymccann4935 Nice rant Marty.
Ever been on the Bloody Disgusting website? There was a writer who gave it a positive review. Meanwhile, he went on to take a shit on Rambo Last Blood and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
GI Jack I wonder why. lol
@@dalestrunk1749 It's pretty suspicious, especially since the guy literally has the exact opposite of every movie that comes in theaters.
As a fan of the comics I’m a huge fan of the new Hellboy, I really believe if they put Ron Perlman into it a lot more people would like it!
Black Christmas Re-Remake, Jacob's Ladder Remake, Doom 2: Annialation, Backdraft 2, & Glass are the Worst film's I seen In The year of 2019...
Juno2000 lmao. Dude I just finished watching Jacob’s Ladder 30 mins ago and hell yeah it’s one of the worst of 2019 😂😂
@@miteykightcrew3656 Yeah It so bad It's on RUclips for Free so there a reason that film is The Worst Horror Remake film with Black Christmas (2019) Re-Remake.
They made a Doom sequel? You must be one of the few poor souls, that watched it.
Annihilation isn't even a sequel to the one starring the Rock.
Glass was tight
I have 1 movie to get you started on your worst movies of 2020: The Grudge.
Just walked out if the theatre today, I'm disappointed but not angry, and it's mostly because I'm just a fan in general of this premise that I'll see any new take somebody has on it
pop dropZ me too
But the turning, WHO BOI I WANTED TO THROW MYSELF OFF A BALCONY
Dude, was anybody expecting black Christmas 2019 to be good, mean the trailers looked pretty crappy
Gave away the whole plot of the film before it ever came out too. I refuse to consider the 2019 film a 2nd remake of the 1974 film. It's clearly a different film that had its name changed to cash in on the Black Christmas title.
I have been looking forward to this video! Thank you! 🖤
Happy and healthy new years to you cody and your family🥳
Cody keep the grind up 👊. When I first subbed you had 24 k subs now your close to 50 . You deserve it
Black Christmas 2019 makes Battlefield Earth and The Fanatic look geniune masterpieces
Cody, you're awesome, thanks for the good content
I am actually shocked the gallows got a sequel
The Fanatic was hilarious! I think it was almost as laughably bad as The Room - but, it didn't reach the level of godly absurdity that The Room did. It got somewhat close though! What stuns me is that they thought The Fanatic was a good idea and it actually received the nod and the cash to be made at all!!
OMG...Serenity PISSED ME OFF when I started to realize what the hell I was watching. Why was the movie even made? no spoilers but I would rather have just played nintendo.
5. Nightingale, 4. Pet cemetery remake, 3. Black Christmas 2019, 2. Curse of la llorona, 1. Dark Phoenix
Hey I just wanna to say that I love your video and keep up the good work and have a Great 2020 in your video
Dude, Tim burton is great director, he’s made so many great films.
He's overrated af.
I think he’s moderately good, but his best work was in the 80s in 90s. After that ass kicking that was Planet of the Apes, he only made 2 good movies (Big Fish and Sweeney Todd).
I can't stand him. Ed Wood is the only film of his I like.
I have a love/hate relationship with Tim Burton. I haven't watched one of his films in a very long time, probably because they try TOO hard to be clever, but they are very creative and gorgeous to watch.
I missed your worst horror movies so when you said the lighthouse I was quite surprised, but you made your case and see where your coming from and while I disagree I respect you opinion. Great video as usual and I hope you and your family have a great year!
Thank God that you’re not an asshole about other opinions
More people like him please ^^^^
I think Lighthouse movie was overrated.
I expected Black Christmas 2019 to be #1. Either that or Lion King 2019
Roberto Iglesias-Sanchez Lion king isn’t bad. It’s not good, but it still has a great story and the voice actors are all fine. That’s just my opinion though
Robert Moss I know it’s your opinion, but the only reason why the story is good is because it beat by beat, shot by shot copies the original. I respect your opinion but I can’t stand the film
@@RJIS plus it's a cash grab by Disney since they are remaking all their good stuff with live action
Cardinal Mordred yes ugh
@@RJIS whaaaat??? People respecting each other's opinion on the internet? Impossible! INCONCEIVABLE
great top Cody, you are on fire these days. I wholeheartedly agree with most of the choices:)
Wait, You didn't talk about the artistic farting in the lighthouse, this was a true tour de force lol
Sad day when Blumhouse made a worst remake of Black Christmas than Dimension Films!
Blumhouse are starting to lose a few steps. I don't expect much from their Invisible Man movie either
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 I hope that's good but I know right now it's a wait and see! I just hope Halloween Kills surprises us and addresses the short comings and problems of Halloween 2018!
I hope Blumhouse doesn't shit over Halloween Kills this year, i really wants this movie to succeed and build upon the great 2018 Halloween
@@DodoRibeiro-ts6po I won't call Halloween 2018 great, just good it's already aging badly but yeah if they mess up Halloween Kills it's going to be a dark day!
Johnny Skinwalker I hope you are wrong
Cody you’re the man!
Seeing Star Wars in the thumbnail
Me: it’s treason then
Black Christmas 2019 is in the bottom 3 films of all time, as far as I'm concerned. It's easily the worst film I've ever seen in a cinema. I can't think of a redeeming quality to it.
God damn I love your intro music!
Why’s Star Wars in the thumbnail I loved it clickbait Cody lol
Not clickbait its deception. Didnt want to reveal all my picks on the thumb
Cody Leach I like that Cody keep up the awesome content bro🙏
Thank you for this. I can’t believe I found such as an awesome channel for movie reviews
Been looking forward to this one!!
The gotta poop reference is John Travolta’s first line in The Fanatic.
I forgot Serenity was this year. Your description is spot on heh.
Hey Cody. Don’t know if you’re able to or not, but would you be able to also do the top 10 best/worst films of the decade?
the nightingale one of my favorites of the year film not for everyone.
I know!!! I can’t believe he put that in this list. Movie is a freaking masterpiece!!!!
@@rubyrosefani5206 like he said he thought it was well made but you cannot force people to enjoy things
@@johnnyskinwalker4095There's a big chasm between not liking something and thinking it's in the top 10 worst.
@@mwheeler138 too often people tend to comfound what they dislike to something that is objectively bad. I have had films that I absolutely hated (Wild at Heart, Leaving Las Vegas) but I knew they were good movies. I guess his title was clickbait-y. Since he thought it was well made. So in short he don't really think the Nightgale was really one of the worst movies
I literally found out 2 days ago that there was a Gallows II on Video On Demand.
What did you think of the Charles Chucky fan film traller
From 15:40 -16:00, I don't think I've said 'What?!' that many times during a plot synopsis, which must say a lot about The Lighthouse.
Keep up the awesome work bro 👍
My worst movies of 2019
1. Leaving Neverland
2. Cats
3. The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson
4. The Haunting of Sharon Tate
5. Black Christmas
6. The Curse of La Llorona
Lmao the black Christmas thumbnail... me too bud... me too
Hi Cody. I know it is not from 2019. I was wondering what your opinion is about the movie Dead Silence.
One thing I forgot to mention when you brought up the Conjuring Universe, James Wan while a great director has been another to feel like a one trick pony. Long before La Llorona there has been tons of supernatural horror films kind of like that one and Wan's others films in the Conjuring universe.
I remember a Facebook post about the Craven family taking pitches for a new Nightmare film and some suggested James Wan. Well him and other familiar directors because they were afraid to have an unknown give it a shot. I was thinking well isn't that how it all started and we have some of the greatest films of all time still being praised for over 40 years because of just that lol?
I just think if James Wan did a Nightmare film you essentially would just have another Conjuring film with Freddy in it.
With the exception of Hellboy and the Fanatic I missed these and the two I did see I totally agree. As for the 8 I didn't see with the exception of the Lighthouse (which maybe I will and maybe I won't) I thank my lucky stars that I had people like you to steer me away. Thanks again for a rocking 2019 and here's to 2020 Cody!!!
He Cody have you seen the fan trailer for Charles when i saw it i thought you would do a trailer reaction (;
Where was cats lmao 🐈
Frankie
He obviously avoided that movie.
He didn’t see it
I am hoping you do a most anticipated for 2020, all genre's and one for horror specifically
Lmaooo I'm so glad I found this channel. Cody is hilarious
Kinda sounds like the lighthouse should be the weirdest movie on this list.
Dude, first off today’s Jan 3rd. I’ve been watching for a couple months now. Sorry I took so long to sub. Anywho, I love the reviews and content. In all honesty I usually hit the “like” halfway through the vids cause I dig what you’re saying. Thank you.
The Lighthouse is definitely not for everyone. I definitely understand why you wouldn’t like it. It’s really strange but it worked for me oddly. I totally don’t blame you for not liking the Lighthouse at all.
I was really hoping you'd say the twist for serenity but I guess I'll watch it for myself, wish me luck.
Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow wasn't style over substance. I loved it. It is a tribute to Hammer horror.
This is a little unrelated but I recently watched the the collector movies after watching 31 on 31. I enjoyed them and just wanted to thank you for the recommendation.
I saw Hellboy before Avengers Endgame came out and once I saw Avengers Endgame I completely forgot I even saw Hellboy lol
Oops....was that movie i just mentioned not in 2019?🤪
Hey can you please to do things that pg 13 horror movies always git wrong.
Hi I am new to your Channel I recently subscribed like a few days ago because I was going to watch Black Christmas and then I look up a trailer on it I seen two they both didn't catch my interest. I scroll down a little bit further and then you just explain the whole movie the block Christmas was going to be a whole different movie go to know it's not scary at all love to see more Channel
Dude I felt the same way that you did about serenity with vegetales it was amazingly stupid
How the hell do u only have 50k should be 500pls. Keep it goin Cody
Now Greta I did enjoy. Though I feel an effective movie should feel somewhat realistic enough to pull you into the experience of the characters and the atmosphere of the film itself you have to remember it's fiction it's fantasy. It's art and in art you're going to sometimes have those artistic and surreal moments in some films. If you really think about it if a movie was too realistic it would likely be boring as hell lol.
This is a nice list. You have great judgment!
You should do a movie review on darkness falls
Of the movies I specifically paid money to see it's Dark Fate & Gemini Man. But for Netflix I'd add Fanatic & Backtrace. I guess I have less and less time to watch recent movies. Chipping away at my always growing watchlist of older films.
12:24 Dumbo and Pinocchio were 2 of the animated Disney films that as a kid I never liked. All these live actions versions suck to me because they're just Disney making cash grabs by making the exact same film again but in live action to get more money out of a pre existing film.
Um love ur cobra Kai shirt please review season 2 or watch the finale because wowo
Wait, wasn't The Gallows somehow a cult-classic or something?
Your opinion on the Lighthouse is hilarious 😂😭
As a father of an Autistic daughter the fanatic was one of the most insulting films I've ever seen ,never mind the fact the ending made no sense whatsoever 😂
Great list I personally love Dumbo and The Lighthouse but I can understand why you didn't. I absolutely loved The Fanatic it's one of my favorites of the year idk what it is I just loved it so much I know I'm in the minority though.
Pretty shocked that the Lighthouse is at 3, one of my top 10 movies of the year. Too each their own man! Great list!
EDIT: WE HAVE THE SAME 1 AND 2.
Fuck Black Christmas.
My picks:
1. The Dead Don't Die
2. Polar
3. The Perfect Date
4. Ad Astra
5. After
6. The Lion King
7. Oh, Ramona
8. Good Boys
9. Tall Girl
Oddly, enough. I had enjoyed the new Hellboy movie. . .so, Cody, I had enjoyed Black X-Mas movie. Should I avoid Black Christmas all together??
The Fanatic is #2??? THATS IT CODY.. THATS IT. IM Blocking you on my social media...You see you see your blocked. Your blocked!!! lmao!!!! Great video bro!!!
i agree about the lighthouse...it did nothing for me...never watching again....good acting but not for me
I may not have agreed with some of these picks, but definitely understand your reasoning. I liked Lighthouse more than you but i was a little let down. Subscribed. I'll be watching your other stuff. I also do horror reviews, you should check them out!
Some of these movies are 2018 releases. Also the list doesn't have Dark Phoenix, Men In Black International, Charlie's Angels, and Bombshell.
I don't agree with your opinion on The Lighthouse, but I can understand where you're coming from. That film is definitely not for everyone.
The Lighthouse was a good movie. It's just you need those metaphors to understand it.
First off it isn't a horror movie, but a gothic thriller.
SPOILERS!!!
The whole movie takes place in the afterlife. The film starts with the two characters on a ship, which represents crossing the river Styx into the afterlife. Defoe is Lucifer/devil blocking the other character from getting into heaven, The Lighthouse. When Defoe jerks it to the light in the lighthouse that him yearning to be return to heaven, but no being able to. The part where Pattinson kills Defoe represents the Greek story of how a king tricked Hades to return from the afterlife. When Pattinson looked into the light he was being judged, which is why he screamed and fell down the stairs. The only shot in the movie that takes place in the real world is the last shot.
The only thing I haven't figured out was the mermaid outside of them luring sailors to their death. That could be how Pattinson's character actually died.
I thought it was psychological
the fanatic is a movie you would put in the "so bad its good" category.......its actually a guilty pleasure of mine.
The Nightingale was my fave of the year
What about Dark phoenix?
WAIT! hold on... are you saying that people actually tried to defend Freddy's Dead😵
Yeah, the remake of Dumbo is one remake that I refuse to watch because it's nothing close to the original and it breaks my heart to see that.
Whoa definitely going to watch The Nightengale now lmao
Its awesome. Dont listen to him.
oh hellboy 2 is actually really good, it's more "burtonesque" than actual burton
Having different opinions with you is what makes watching more fun, lol thanks for sparing Midsommar xD
What surprises me most about Dumbo is that it's a Tim Burton movie & Johnny Depp isn't in it. BTW, since you turn 30 this year you should do a top 10 best & worst movies of the year you were born.
I plan to actually
The other thing about The Lighthouse is that Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson's characters are going crazy because of the seclusion they have being stuck on the island with only each other and getting drunk from drinking too much liquor and Lighthouse fuel. The liquor and Lighthouse fuel is why Robert is hallucinating when he sees the mermaid and some of the other stuff that maybe not real in the movie.
You know what, fuck it. I think Hellboy is underrated, not good, but definitely underrated.
I can kinda see where fans would find a movie like La Llorona bland. I enjoyed it and as a long time horror fan thar has watch hundreds upon hundreds of horror films and films of all genres I can tell you that you'll tend to see many movies that have the same plot same storylines, same feel. I mean after decades of filmmaking you only can do so much. And I don't a lot people realize that as well as the next thing I'm about to say on movies being "scary".
So think of it like this when you're a kid and you first learn of Santa Claus you're excited and you believe it's real being all caught up in the magic. As you grow older you come to learn it's not real and though you may still enjoy it, it doesn't have the same feel the same effect as it did when you were a kid. You just enjoy the holiday and love it for what it is and all the great memories you had growing up.
So unless you are just a person that's afraid of things or get triggered by some traumatic experience if you're an adult especially a horror fan that tends to watch a lot of horror movies it's rather pointless to look for a horror flick to actually frighten you.
Just saw The Lighthouse and yes, I disagree with you. But, I understand why you hate it.
